I'm probably selling my 15 foot boat soon as my old man now has his 21 foot rig parked in the little sub division of houses directly behind the boat ramp at Werribee South. Will keep making content for my channel though.
That's awesome, nothing better then having a decent boat and only minutes from the boat ramp. There still catching plenty of whiting, gummies and flatties from werribee at the moment. 100% just the right before the pier on Millers road. Its a great spot as you don't get any boat traffic here where further down has heaps of boat traffic with the ramp.
That's awesome Andrew. I have been hanging to target some squid at that spot, that's on my to do next time. All of my video was taken just to the right of the end of the main pier, in which area were you getting the squid??. Thinking ill be out there again soon to target them and hope to see you out there.
fishingmad oh yeah I loaded at the yak ramp left side of pier then kept going left reaching the first stick in sight 2-4 metre mark. Popular spot lots of boats there aswell.

Hi Tahlia, the easiest thing by far which is what I have done with many of my video is to buy pre made rigs. There not expensive and they greatly increase your catch rates. When im bait fishing for flathead, whiting or pinkies I generally use these www.rigmastertackle.com.au/product/whiting/ they work really well either circle or long shank hooks. I think its 6 packs for $14 and they last quite a while. If im targeting big species such as snapper, gummy shark, mulloway then I have been using reedys rigs snapper-rigs.com/product/twin-hook-5-0-running-rig/ and i rig them like this th-cam.com/video/BMHmAtWHXvI/w-d-xo.html id strongly suggest starting with the smaller whiting rigs you catch many fish with them. Just start with small piece of pilchard or squid as bait and a small sinker and you will catch plenty

I had 2 setups. 1 was soft plastic, which was 1 rod length of 8 pound leader to a 1/8 jig head and any curl tail or grub soft plastic.When your drifting the soft plastic will just move along the bottom which surprisingly still catches many flathead and pinkies. The other rig was a hairy-back paternoster rig. I buy them premade, just attach a sinker and have 2 hooks with a bit of pilchard or squid and thats great again for a whole range of species. Dragging on the floor, you will be very surprised when your drifting it will naturally hold just above the bottom and catch plenty of fish. I have done this for years and caught many fish. Give it a go you will see. You get snagged occasionally but you also catch a lot more fish.

Hi Joey, the Kayak I was using in that video was a Native Watercraft slayer 10. Its very stable and has a peddle drive system. There not purchased from BCF. The ones from BCF arent to bad but they are more entry level paddle kayaks. My friend has a Dragon pro kayak from BCF and really rates it. It all comes down to available budget. I know heaps of people that have bought cheap kayaks and then sold them weeks later as they found them unstable and unsafe. The most popular kayak at the moment is the hobie outback or the hobie compass. They provide stability and the features, but are still a little pricey. I would recommend having a look on ebay and Gumtree and seeing if you can find a hobie or native watercraft at a bargain price that will give you a far superior experience. Otherwise the dragon kayakys at BCF or NextGen 10 kayaks seem to be popular too. I hope that helps
At this stage its just random, Just over time you get familiar with what areas produce what fish and by drifting and covering ground you improve your chances. However, I just bought a fish finder and am hooking that up this week, so keen to see if that changes my strategy.
Just picked up a Lowrance Hook 2 4X, there very affordbale. It just took some time to work out what mounting kits, batteries and transducers are required ( which is far more complex then the sounder itself ). Should have it all up and running soon. I was never keen on the Deepers as you often needed to use your phone meaning battery life will be drained quickly and phone susceptible to salt water damage
Why is there so much water in the bottom of your yak. I run no scupper plugs and never have water in the yak otherwise great vid buddy keep up the good work
Thanks, yeah the natives sit quite low and can take a little bit of water. As soon as one area takes a bit of water let out the scupper plug and away you go. Its never really been a problem.

Heaps of different options for different budgets. BCF sell Dragon Pro Fisher Kayaks which are really stable and affordable for around $600 which include most things that you will need. You would see one used by my good mate Mark on some of our videos. Then there's a big step up in price for pedal based kayaks like the hobies and native watercrafts starting from $2,500 all the way to $4,500. I bought mine 2nd hand for about half the RRP. The most important thing with Kayaks is stability. My first kayak was a cheap one and i never felt safe, i even tipped it a couple of times out in the bay which was very scary. My current yak is so stable and safe and that is so important. Kayak fishing is so much fun, you don't need to go out far, and you can catch heaps of flathead, pinkies, squid and more. I would strongly suggest watching out for clearance sales or watching gumtree or ebay for those selling a high end kayak for cheap that way your not compromising on safety. Hi Julian, I was only using strips of squid that day. Usually when im cleaning squid that I have caught I keep the squid tentacles and use them for bait. Its a great bait as it doesnt fall of the hook like pippis and pilchard often does. Plenty of places you can catch them from the shore. That video I took was only about 50 meters past the end of altona pier, so you could easily catch them at altona pier, also werribee jetty, under the west gate I have caught some big flathead, cunningham pier in geelong. Dragging on the floor, you will be very surprised when your drifting it will naturally hold just above the bottom and catch plenty of fish. I have done this for years and caught many fish. Give it a go you will see. You get snagged occasionally but you also catch a lot more fish.
