@@49dragonflies It’s true! It’s the creator who “makes” the video, just as much as the content. I only have a few channels I follow regularly, and when I see that you or Luise have uploaded, I always look forward to seeing what you’ve created. And part of that is because you’re both such genuinely lovely people, but also because you guys don’t just present a perfect project with all the thinking, planning & “oops”bits edited out. It makes your creations so much more interesting & achievable for us, therefore more inspiring 😊

Barbara, you have created a new journal type...the junkart journal! Woohoo! Thanks for sharing. Generally, art journals are for doing art projects mixed with actual journaling (ie: writing). Most do the writing as part of the base layers, then build on top. Or do the writing as to not be actually legible, as part of the piece. There is normally a focal point and a saying, or a quote. Have fun with it!

Ah the good old anxiety that we perfectionists constantly feel when we can’t study for something & don’t have instructions to prepare things in advance 🤗 I learnt some great advice from Pam (& Sunny) at the Paper Outpost a long time ago, that I keep reminding myself of when I overthink things or get frozen not wanting to mess something up, or get overwhelmed… (& I’m pretty sure I’ve heard you say it a time or two) “it’s just paper”. It’s so simple, but so true. At the very worst, we can recycle it. Or we can go with the “if you don’t like it, it’s just not finished yet” mentality & keep throwing paint at it or cut it down to collage pieces & play until we love it. But I love your idea of making a mini journal to make it less overwhelming. I’ve been making collage papers, Gelli prints & things & planning journals, but have been unable to get started, until I saw your video on the journal charm & I immediately started making a tiny journal (well 3 because of the number of pages I wanted to include) & it was so much easier to create 😊

Love your little art journal! If you take some loose mixed media, watercolour & canvas pages with you, you can also have options on hand to try techniques that need bigger pages, without having to create an entire larger journal, and then you can either make a new bigger journal after the event, or cut them down & add them to other projects. Can’t wait to see what new things you learn 😊

If you can get any Canson mixed media paper that would be perfect for an art journal base and would hold up to all mediums or a smooth watercolor paper or khadi paper. These can all take a variety of mediums. Excited to see what you do at this next art journal festival!

I use lots of different types of papers in my art journal and I let the paper kind of dictate the kinds of mediums I use on it. Your pages are fun and turned out great. But you don’t need to over think it. Just go with it and open your art journal and create anything that makes you happy

Love all of your papers and colour combinations! Your canvas journal cover is brilliant, you really have no reason to be intimidated by the art festival, just be your creative self. This is not a criticism but, your brayer is more the type that is used for spreading Mod Podge, it’s very hard and unless you put a magazine or something under your surface😂, it is difficult to move the paint. Have a wonderful time at the art festival!💕🇨🇦

I have an idea don’t feel that you need to use it but I was thinking that you could also make a journal in the same way but leave it completely blank. It would give you a place to brayer off paint and add things that don’t necessarily work in the one you made today. It could be the alter ego to this journal. Just a thought. It would give you options. I’m looking forward to seeing your finished product. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦

Dear Barbara, hi! I love your new art journal! It turned out so beautiful and cute! And i also love the papers inside it and how you "struggled" making them! 😃😃😃 I had the opposite journey from yours, meaning that i started with art journaling and then turned to junk journaling (at least i'm trying to). And yes, usually smaller size is easier for art journals. I remember my self starting with a huge art journal and then I didn't know how to fill the huge pages! It is really great that you already prepared the pages inside, no fear of blank pages!. Can't wait to see how many beautiful things you will make inside at the festival! I'm sure you will have lits of fun!!! Sweet greetings, Elena.❤❤❤

I don’t know if you have tried this before and I’ve just missed it … instead of using a brayer and mat or direct brayer to paper - try your gelli plate. 😁 I use my gelli plate a lot for getting a smooth brayer application or especially when I need to have a thin layer of acrylic paint for homemade stamps. It makes a great palette!

Ha Ha! When you were talking about working the edges of your journal in Louisa H style, and you put the paper clip on…I thought you were going to hit it with a hammer.I was surprised you just sprayed them.

I’m not going for grunge for this journal, but I love that technique as well 😊

How about one of your stickers, like in the first journal you made?
Love this little one nd look forward to see what you make in the art festival!
I also really like how the brayer papers, I've recently bought one (and a gel plate), but haven't started to play with it yet. This was so inspiring to watch and I'm getting started with mine too!

Just a tip - buy or make a big storage box & have a ream or two of paper on hand, because Gelli printing is super addictive & it’s so easy to make dozens & dozens of pages once you figure out how much paint to add, which colours sit on top of others well etc. Welcome to the addiction 😄
