Hi! I am from Argentina, where the 504 has thousands of fans. My dad had in the 1990s a 504 diesel, 2.3l with hydraulic assisted direction, and He told that It was the most comfortable car He never owned. Since last year, I have a 1997 XSD AA (diesel, INDENOR engine, 2.3l , Air Conditioner edition). I made a 1500km trip, stopping only to get fuel, go to the bathroom, and buy coffee and food (We had lunch "on the road"). My wife does not drive, so I did all the driving. I got out at our end of route and found that I was ...like new! No pain, no cramps....really like being in your living room´s coach! I enjoyed your video a lot! Hugs from Argentina!

Great. Diesels were few in Kenya but once in a while one pops up. I only know of a couple of organisations that bought fleet of pickups from the dealer. I hear the diesels are particular on coolant used, which one do you use/recommend?

    • @RI-ns8wz
      @RI-ns8wz ปีที่แล้ว

@@vs6300 I never heard that diesels need a particular coolant. I use in my cars a good one and always use demineralized water (NOT distilled water, because It's ACIDIC)
Demineralized because IT has no minerals in it, so the will not deposit in the cooling ducts or the radiator's interior.

Peugeots were just outstanding. This reminds me of my old man's 505 SW, KAJ 883Z. That car was simply amazing. One fine easter while travelling to the country side, i was dead asleep in the last row seat like a king...kidogo kidogo mzee steps on the brakes and i find myself against the center console. Anytime I think of the impact from back then, i still feel the pain. Mzee lashed out in kikuyu that i should remember hiyo ni "fai" and not my bed.....mambo ya kulala kwa gari yake niliwacha.

Who remembers WEPESI...the legend was the 504 and 505s drivers would switch on the right indicator in Limuru and zima in Eldoret, Kisumu or WEBUYE coz it was always overtaking.🤣🤣

@@sammiemwangi5728 The first KAAs-A came out in 1990/91 after KZZ 999. Another neighbor had a KAA Toyota corolla 90 bought new from Toyota Kenya in 1991and that being the start of the era of gari za importation, the plate numbers took about a year to a year and a half to change form KAB to KAC for example with KAEs being put on newly registered cars in or around 1995 and 1996. Prior to 1990 you could not import vehicles personally if i remember correctly. My father bought a Dubai Corona in early 95 with plate number KAD. There were no KAFs because Kenya Airforce or KAi or KAO because the i looks like 1 and o looks like 0. With the crazy number of cars being bought today it takes a few weeks to move from KDA to KDB plates. And what changed in 1999??

What made me fall in love with this lion was one occasion in 1997 during the El Nino rains. We were coming from upcountry and the roads were slippery. Then a 504 pickup came to our rescue and we were like 20 of us. After boarding and taking off, we reached a place where it was clayish with some pot holes and vehicles got stuck. This beast did not even struggle. Ilipita kupita mpaka watu wakashangaa coz it was loaded. Even I was amazed and I was a small boy then... Long live 504.

Thanks for you wonderful video paying tribute this iconic vehicle. In our family we have owned about 7 Peugeots and I still own a 404 from 1969. The 1618cc (1.6) was in the 404. 504 was introduced with the 1786cc (1.8) engine, which was similar to the the one in the 404 but with a longer piston travel. Then later, around 1970 came the 1971cc (2.0 liter) engine with included the longer piston travel of the 1.8 but now also with an enlarged piston, thus giving the engine and enlarged capacity but actually based on the same fundamental architecture of the 404 engine. In fact the 504 was fundamentally an improved 404 as it was largely based on the same mechanicals but with a more modern and larger body, improved suspension and higher capacity engines. The gearbox was also carried over from the 404. The nice thing about this is that you can quite easily put 504 engines into a 404. This will transform the light 404, for example put a 2.0 liter 504 engine into a 404 and you have a very fast car, as the 404 is lighter and you are now adding about 20% extra power.

My Dad had a Peugeot 305 back then and that thing was super comfy and fast. It was one of the 1st saloons back then that came in Front Wheel Drive. I remember how his friends were awed at how a car can be front wheeled, coz back then most cars like the Toyota Corollas (KE70) Datsuns (120y) were all rear wheeled. Only problem of the Peugeots back then was the instrument cluster. Most failed especially the speedo. I've heard you saying the speedo ain't working and I wasn't surprised 😂. Another problem was that the monocoque chasis wasn't bullet proof. The body tended to warp over time and it would affect the functionality of the car doors. You needed either to bang it so hard to lock, or sometimes it wouldn't lock properly. Most of their car door handles got broken as a result of tryng to force the door open. Apart from that it was a gudu one.

As always, every episode of the redriven series are a pure joy to watch them. The 504 in particular bears praises from old folks all over the country. In particular, this car had very few mechanical problems unlike any other from the 60s to date.
One important thing you didn't mention was that overhauls were very easy on this model; replace the pistons and sleeves, then the vehicle resembles one from the showroom.
😂🙌🙌 Keep up the "alluring" motor vehicle experience.

The pickups were actually 1800CC as well as the newer salons. The older saloons were the 2000 CC and way more comfortable than the newer ones coz they had all round independent suspension as well as disc brakes. The injection ones were the 504 Ti. The 3 speed gearboxes were actually by GM. The ZF transmissions were used in the 505's. Great and hilarious review!!

    • @tomm487

The older 2000cc peugeots were also way faster they were the only ones with a 200kph speedo. The newer ones were 160 and 180kph max.I know someone who bought a South African modified 404 saloon at an auction back in 97' that had been converted to a pickup than had a 2000cc 504 engine and a 5sp box with a floor mounted shifter. That car was very light and would fly mpaka the guy akajimwaga nayo destroying it.

The only 504 engines I know are the 1.6L (1618cc), 1.8L (1796cc) and 2.0L (1971cc). For the 1.6L, it was used by the GRs and the first pickups. Actually, they shared the same engine with the 404. The 1.8L was mostly used by the SRs, the pickups and some wagons. GLs had the 2.0L that was carburreted while the TI had the same but fuel injected. GL and TI were the most luxurious coz they were very comfortable due to independent suspension and drive shafts on the rear wheels.

There will never be another vehicle like the Peugeot! The 404 is the one i learned how to drive with having the column mounted gear lever below the steering next to the dash board. Then the 504 with its acceleration power and famous roar was a joy to hear! As for the 504 when it was taken to the garage for service, the mechanic would only be satisfied that he has done his job after tuning the engine until it roared at that high pitch sound! The 505 was another masterclass too. The 405s looked posh but were very problematic always having mechanical problems especially the ones imported from UK!

These francophonic behemoths were built like no other. The sound of a charging Francophonic behemoth is music to my ears kwanza when changing gears. Here the driver must throw hands up.

I had commented on another video about using GPS speedometer for measuring the 0-100 time. Kama hii 504 you would have opted for the APP.
And for the cc of the 504, I’ve not heard of the 1700cc. I only know of the 1600cc (GR) 1800cc (SR)2000cc (GL) and 2700cc V6 those are the common ones.
    Good review 👍
