25 years ago I was in ketosis during my entire third pregnancy. My doctor asked me if I was trying to lose weight! I had no idea what ketosis was!! The only foods I could tolerate were whole foods. Junk and carbs made me nauseous. It was the easiest of my three pregnancies and despite having a c-section, I left the hospital a day early and was roller skating with my older kids 5 weeks later! My son was and is incredibly healthy. Your body and your baby will thrive on a keto/ketovore/carnivore way of eating because the food is nutrient-dense and delicious!

4:40 this is so affirming to hear. My last pregnancy I was 100% paleo, portion controlled, ended up with gestational diabetes, changed my diet to follow my OBGYN recommendation and by my third trimester i was on the highest dose of insulins injecting at every meal. It made no sense. I remember telling my dietician who was frustrated with me for not eating enough carbs, that when i hit the minimum carb requirement my blood sugar would sky rocket. They scared me about all of the defects and problems my son would have if I didn’t eat more carbs. It was a nightmare. So glad to come across your story and so many more. Thank you for sharing!!

  • @kristidavis5652

I ate low carb with my IVF pregnancy, and could not tolerate sugar at all during that pregnancy. I was nursing him and when he was around 6 months old I transitioned from low carb to keto, and I had no issues with milk production, and my son was very healthy. As soon as he was weaned I ended up pregnant again (oops). I was keto for the first part of that pregnancy, then I got lazy and was staying sick. Then they did the test for gestational diabetes, and it was positive. So I went back to strict keto to control my sugar for the rest of the pregnancy and suprise the nausea and sickness went away almost completely when I got my sugar under control. My new baby is 2 months old and thriving and I am still eating keto. I feel so much better when I eat this way and my new baby is perfect (and I didn't need to take any medication to regulate my gestational diabetes).

I love that you're putting this info out there! I wish I had known how to do keto the right way (for me) when I was pregnant. I did the best I could at the time with the information I had so I have no regrets but I still do wonder. I will say that my pregnancy where I was the closest to keto (strict dairy free and nut free Whole30) was my easiest delivery and I felt the best. My midwife got upset with me for having ketones in my urine though... Apparently I was often in ketosis even though I was eating things like bananas. Lol.

I’ve been following you and Dr. Berry for years and fully intended to have a keto pregnancy. My husband and I stocked our kitchen with fresh, wild-caught salmon, quail eggs, grass fed butter, and all of the other wonderful things I’ve loved on keto. Then, the first trimester nausea hit at 5 weeks and I’ve literally only been able to tolerate scrambled eggs, Ezekiel bread, and simple mills almond flour crackers. I’m hoping to ease back into keto in the second trimester. This is brutal lol

He told his doctor that he is on a whole food diet with mainly meat and vegetables and no processed food! His doctor is on board but my sister thinks he needs carbs.

Such important powerful info! 🙌🏼Thank you, Miss Neisha!!
I found the keto way of eating from my midwife during my third pregnancy. My midwives never forced the glucose test, and were okay with me testing my blood sugar at home three times. My fasted level was soooo high. (Strong family history of diabetes, both types) That midwife saved my life. Legit. I was able to lower my levels to healthy numbers in just two days by eating keto & adding chromium picolinate into my daily routine. Baby was born safely at home, no complications. 🙏🏼 I kept going after my 6 week healing period, and lost 86 pounds doing keto, while still exclusively breastfeeding my son until he was 7 months and started solids.
Currently 6 weeks postpartum with baby #4, second keto pregnancy, and I'm so thankful I did it from the beginning! Breastfeeding is going great. Baby was born safely at home, 10 pounds, no complications.
Many blessings to you and the fam! Thank you for always speaking about these issues! 💗

@ Neisha Loves It - I wish I would have known about keto/ketovore YEARS ago. I have PCOS and was never able to conceive. We adopted a baby girl and when she was 2 years old, we even tried artificial insemination once (all we could afford) and of course it didn't work either. Seven years later we adopted another baby girl that had been in our foster home since 7 months old that is special needs with 5p- syndrome. I love both of my girls with all my heart, but would have loved to have experienced pregnancy and childbirth of my own baby. My girls are 22 and 13 now and I am almost 58, so it is too late for me, but thank you so much for all the information that you, Neisha Berry, and Dr. Berry put out there. I so appreciate all of the information for my aging body with all of my aches and pains. We did keto in our house for about a year and I was never in better shape, but we fell off the wagon. I have since put back on about 60 pounds and feel terrible and some mornings can barely get out of bed because of my, spinal stenosis, spondylosis, degenerative disc disease, spina bifida occulta and a few other issues. I am going to try to start Dr. Berry's 30 day HACK tomorrow, April first, and need to be in everyone's thoughts and prayers. If I don't do something drastic soon, I may wake up one day and not be able to walk. I have a 13 year old special needs daughter that depends on me everyday, so I have to do this and optimize my health as much as possible. Thanks again for all y'all do! -Sheila

❤Oh my gosh, I love this video! Thank you so much for sharing! I had learned about Weston A. Price back in 2009, and made massive changes then. I became pregnant with my daughter in 2014 (at 26 years old). I followed close to that way of eating (but not perfect), and she came out absolutely perfect and my pregnancy was so fun and amazing! I became keto in 2017, which wasn't a stretch from Weston A. Price, so that was easy. I became pregnant again in 2018 (at 30 y/o) with my son, and ate close to Keto (not perfect)... and WAP as well. And he came out so perfect, and my pregnancy was again amazing... and my husband who gained a lot in my first pregnancy, looked amazing after our second (with keto). There was so little information on being keto during pregnancy in 2018. We are now pregnant with our third in 2024 (at 36 y/o), and I'm doing my research again, and it's so amazing to find so many videos like this now! I love Dr. Berg, and Dr. Ken Berry! I didn't know you were his wife until the end of this video! I was going to write this comment before the video even ended because I loved it so much, and then you popped out with that! I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant and just turned 37 years old almost 2 weeks ago. I have been keto since January 17th, 2017. So far this has been such an easy pregnancy. My previous pregnancy almost 8 years ago I broke my elbow, diagnosed with gestational diabetes, diagnosed with gestational hypertension. Was induced at almost 37 weeks due to my blood pressure. My blood pressure is amazing. They checked my a1c at 8 weeks and it was 5.4 and had me do early 1 hour glucose tolerance test at 12 weeks and passed, but barely failed my 1 hour at 28 weeks. I had to do 3 hour and passed the fasting, and had elevated 1 hour and passed 2 hour, but some how they messed up my 3 hour results so they gave me the option of testing qid (4 times a day) or repeating the test. I opted for testing qid because I feel like crap after drinking all that sugar. I am just having trouble with my fasting numbers in the morning. They are between 100-108. I eat dinner later than normal (7:30-8pm) and get up at 6am. On weekends when I sleep in a bit later my numbers are way better. Any suggestions? I really want a cgm (senseonics has a new implantable cgm system that is approved by fda, but insurance won't pay 🙁) just to see my numbers overnight

I used to do Keto and I felt great! Then I got pregnant and was vomiting during the first trimester but can only survive on sweet things and carbs. When I got better I should have stopped that but I continued and unfortunately it got out of control that I now have mild gestational diabetes. So here I am back to Keto again day 1 re-educating myself on the benefits of Keto during pregnancy at 6 months pregnant. This morning I had keto coffee and keto noats.. going to make keto bread for lunch and some meat and vege as well. I will eat 3 to 4 keto meals a day and try my best not to eat in between. Im trying to avoid dinner but thats over time once my body has time to adjust. I suppose I should add exercise as well 😅 slowly I will add it. Thanks for the video and reassuring me that keto is safe for pregnancy as long as all nutrients are complete.

I struggled against the establishment in my first Keto pregnancy in 2018 because there was not a lot of information out there at the time. I had to do a lot of research to be able to counter the garbage I encountered from Endocrinologist and diabetes educators both who while telling me I needed to keep my blood sugars low because I am type 2 diabetic (my hba1c at the time was 4.8) were then telling me to add more carbs in and take insulin to bring the sugars down. I said umm I'd rather not eat the things that will make my blood sugars high in the first place.
2nd time around and a little more meat based. It was much easier to deal with because I knew they all had no idea how to control blood sugar. Stayed off insulin both times.

I watched TH-cam "Cooking Goat Laba in a Friend's Yard in Turkey Village" Wow, might have to leave out the rice and some ingredients (look like almonds) Goat ribs with stuffed Goat liver and other stuff. The salad was lettuce, bay leaves, parsley, tomatoes, cabbage and some other greens don't remember. The dressing was a sour creme or yogurt dressing. They don't screw around in these farm villages. Everything is grass fed and organic. Cooking out doors. One could do this meal keto leaving out some of the ingredients they use like rice.

Currently pregnant and have been doing keto since 2018. Thanks for all the helpful and great information. I do believe this way of eating definitely helped me. I am just curious if anyone has been on keto and has had a physician tell them that they see traces of protein in their urine and not to worry but that they will keep monitoring it. I had this happen to me and now it's got me questioning what am I doing wrong? Is this a major concern ? Is there any adjustments that need to be made? Or is this something else? I am NO expert and just looking for any advice from anyone who has experienced this.

I'm sure you've heard of Dr Eric Berg? he has some very basic help for starting to eat ketogenic. He's more on the meats, veggies and cruciferous veg. While I know Dr Berry & Neisha don't claim a title to how they eat necessarily but I know from watching they eat everything meat! She's got a lot of great videos on food ideas to put together. It's very simple:) just gotta have the determination! It will be hard the first few weeks but you just gotta take the plunge! Good luck to you ❤

    • @mao1878

In order to stick with it for the long run you have to do it slowly so you and your body can adjust. Don’t cut it all out overnight, the side effects might derail you completely (keto flu, possibly diarrhea..). Do it over a month or two time. Cut the amounts of bad stuff you it, eat each day less of grains, sugary stuff, introduce cooking in pork fat or tallow, cut out all oils and use only moderately amounts of olive oil/coconut oil. Up your meat amounts. You didn’t get to where and how you are now over night, don’t expect to do it over night either. Take small repetitive steps towards bettering your nutrition and way of cooking and eating and you already will see real progress! Use SALT..;)
Best regards, Dana (using my husband’s account 🤪😬)

Its amazing there is a book called super nutrition for babies and I love that it shows old adds from GERBER for solely meats helping your baby grow, the importance of vit D/sunlight etc. I'm thinking dang when did they get bought off with now solely the overmasked veg with sugary fruit pouches they sell. Lol I do think they still have some rather questionable looking baby hotdogs in glass jars though lol
