    Warning: The posts on the Elevator clevises are vey thin. When I was lining it up with the hole it collapsed. I didn't even press it into the hole. As a precaution I replaced both of them with a better quality ( thicker post ) clevise. Also had trouble lining up the wing screws, like you did. My solution was to relieve them a bit with a 1/16 drill bit. Then I lined each on up with a very thin ( less than 1/16 ) push rod. Holes were easier to start and tighten after that.

      Cg is wrong in the manual .. it makes it tail heavy .. battery needs to be more forward .. lots of pilots having problems with cg that’s why lots of bad maidens ..

      Set the CG at 67mm from the wing root next to the fuselage. Project this dimension (67mm) about 3" from the fuselage onto the wing and balance it from there...easy peasy

    Away at work and have been Watching all these 50mm EDF arrows and absolutely loving the content. Everything from the flights to the setups to the general discussions around the fundamentals of the Process and the Hobby in general I am absolutely so stoked I found your videos Brian. I have come from a a few entry level 3D helicopters and here cool but after buying a Chinese 2ch Fixed wing I was hooked and now after watching your videos over the past 3 days every speared second I can get I'm officially converted thanks to you guys haha "mission accomplished" I have actually also educated my self drastically regarding radio setup from watching your videos and then googling key words and phrases you have been using that I don't understand which I then go back to the videos and watch a section again after educating my self on Google and finally understandimg something relevantly before I carry on watching the next sections of your videos haha now that is what I call officially hooked haha

    You brought up several good points at the end of the second flight. Everyone flying should read this.
    I can’t say I learned a valuable lesson this weekend but a valuable lesson finally sank in. Which I also fly maned aircraft and this absolutely applies there too.
    Brian (you) mentioned how it’s like a small real plane as well as learning curve. We’ve had a lot of no fly days lately due to weather. I try to fly every day. Yesterday (monday) started out like a typical monday “for a heating and ac business owner” (aka headache or I call sht show monday) I decided in my travels I would stop off for a flight in my aeroscout which was already in my truck to clear my head.
    Which has an ar8010T in it. Which has no safe or as3x. It was a bit windy. I said I’ll put it up and if I’m not comfortable I’ll land. So I did. I did couple laps in the pattern and I was not comfortable flying so I landed. Safely.
    I then proceed to feed my itch to fly over good decision making by using rationalization. I said to myself I’ll keep it below the tree line out of the major wind. Well I was about 4’ off the ground and a gust put me nose in the ground. Ripped the front gear clean out and left huge hole in the bottom of the fuselage.
    Last night I repaired another “less crashed” fuselage and that’s a roller again and will fly again. But not the point.
    A lot of times. It’s never 1 thing that leads to a plane crash. It’s typically a series of events that add up to cause it.
    Lessons and signs: I first thought it was calm out. But it was gusty 15 or so mph. I was aware of this. Ignored that it was above my minimums to fly without as3x. So I made a decision using risk management on the wind, however I over looked all the other fly or no fly checklist items.
    I was not having a good morning. Therefor my frame of mind was not good to fly. My anxiety and stress level was high.
    I got to the field and my water bottle fell off my passenger seat onto another small plane I typically have with me (micro tundra) and it damaged the tail. It was one of those days where everything was going wrong. I thought a flight would be good to clear my head. Trying to clear that energy.
    Knowing I was having that type of day regardless of the weather. I shouldn’t have gone to fly.
    I also want to add. I had a feeling something was going to happen. I was aware of my feeling and I tried to disregard. I got stuck in what’s called “get there itus”.
    I am in the process of putting together an albatross the rescue one. It’s huge! And intimidating. It will have safe for sure. I am no longer treating the rc planes like toys. Especially that I fly manned planes. I could have easily apply those same mistakes to a manned flight.
    Even for rc pilots I highly recommend reading or audible pilots handbook of aeronautical knowledge. There’s a whole section on making that go or no go decision. Which factors in physical and mental health.
    I ended up with my 230s heli stuck in a tree for 2 weeks. Same thing. I wanted to fly but I had been sick for like a week. My first day on my feet I was dizzy and still getting my bearings and I was dying to fly something. I got it back flying but with buying some new parts.
    If you read this Brian that’s awesome. Your on my tv. Going up down up down lol. Showing the safe and cg. Appreciate anyone listening. Lol.

      You're explain exactly why this channel (Well the maintenance of it) is pretty much a miracle. When we fly, we are pretty much ALWAYS up against a tight deadline. I pretty much always have to make decisions to push through my emotional state of being to get the job done, and it works a lot of the time, but other times, it leads to disaster. My skills on camera are probably about 1/3 to 2/3 that of what I COULD do on a nice relaxed afternoon flight, but those don't hardly ever happen any more ;( Oh well, I get paid to do what I love now, and wouldn't have it any other way, but when I come home from a 10 hours struggle and have 7 minutes to put together a perfect flight on the first try, in less than seller conditions, with poor lighting and a pissed off wife and camera crew, this is what separates the men from the boys ;) LOL
      Seriously though, you make some great points, but for us, this is our way...wish I could just fly when I was in the right state of mind, but for me at this moment, it's not just hobby anymore...this channel is a monster...it's my beautiful little monster, but it's a monster, non-the-less ;)
      Thanks for being here with us, and for the thoughtful comment!

      @@BrianPhillipsRC and for that I thank you and your amazing wife once again for all you do. Much appreciated. I suppose it’s different when it’s commercial piloting. Rc or maned. Either way. It’s similar concepts.
      I know how much it takes to get these videos out and to do it in top of everything else. I really appreciate having such valuable information at my finger tips.
      There’s still a difference between rc and manned. But what I don’t want is the “muscle memory” of bad habits. It sucks to crash an rc. But at the end of the day. A few hundred bucks is no big deal. But if I am not recognizing that behavior. I could wind up in unintentional imc or crash on the ground from wind because I got tunnel vision. I’m a student pilot and got into rc to satisfy my urge to fly since I can’t fly every day. So I feel it’s good to use rc to practice good decision making skills.
      Have a happy new year. Look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve this next year.

    Enjoy you and your camera woman's interaction and love the T33, I grew up as an USAF Brat and my Dad's friend used to fly high ranking USAF Generals to meetings using the T Bird, that is what they called it. Brings back memories. It was soon outclassed, but kept around for years by the USAF for Yeoman service bringing someone here or sending some Higher up there.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Cool Brian, my dad started with the Air Corps back in 42, and he spent WWII first in Panama then took a troop ship way south in the Pacific and then back up again to India, from there they flew the hump in to Xi' an China ( was the Ancient Capital long before Beijing). He was drunk once and said his first time in a B 24 as tail gunner was after he took the headless corpse out the tail gunner position. He had many tails of the old days. Unfortunate for him, he was with Mac Arthur's Palace Guard in Tokyo, when the Korean War Broke out, before he even heard there was a war he was landing with other GI's into Kimpo (Seoul Korea) and the plane was being fired on as they landed. But yeah, the T Bird was our first deployed Jet Fighter as the F-80 to Italy in WWII. But yes long after it was front line it was useful flying around higher ups to various SAC, TAC, and MAC get togethers. It was comfortable, had good range and no vices. A nice safe plane to fly in. As For me did my time in the Army retired in 98. Hope you and your Mrs. Have a good life, like your delivery and honesty. Some folks just don't know how to make a good video. You stick to the basics and make it informative. I think I will get one of those 50 mm T birds sometime soon...Adios!!!

Regardless, it's my 1st jet and I've had some great flights and landings - my other plane is the Eachine F4U, so this is a big jump. I actually bought two of these jets through you! For the wing moount screws you just have to give really solid pressure and go slow. You're spinning like crazy and kinda stripping out the very top part of where the screw goes so it isn't biting. My buddy put brass inserts in his and used machine screws.

    My first jet was the Arrows Marlin. It sells for $20 more than the T-33.
    What you get for $20 more -
    - a rudder
    - landing gear
    - 70mm motor
    - 4 cell power - (if you don't have or want to spend the money for 4s vs 3s then
    get the T-33)
    If you can only land in grass then get the T-33.
    If you have a runway then I think the Marlin is a better value.
    Also, if you plan to move up to more advanced jets that land on a runway then you can use
    the Marlin to get experience landing a jet on a runway.

    I maidened the Arrows Bae Hawk and T-33 same day. Far from it for me to give you any suggestions/pointers, but my Bae Hawk was a dud compared to the T-33. The Bae Hawk was fine in level flight, easy to land, but not very maneuverable. So, it sat in the basement and the T-33 went to the field and got 3 or 4 1800’s 3s 70c worth of flying. One of our Gasser members heard me complain about the Bae Hawk and his suggestion was- “Increase the Throws to 125%-135% and see if that helps.” (Dumbest thing I’ve ever been told to do. And of course it worked. Flying in 90/30 high rates, 79/30 low rates) Much more fun to fly, rolls easy. 4s 1300’s has worked well, but I still fly the Bae Hawk, T-33 and the 50mm Viper mostly on 3s 1800’s.

      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah Jeff! I've done that a few times. I sometimes forget that with OTHER than Horizon Hobby brands, you can almost always over-drive the servos. This would help, but I thought I kinda already did that???
      P.S. I did do a seconds thoughts with the BAE Hawk, but I broke it in half, then flew it with no front half, and the SMART pack sticking out the front...like the headless horseman...it was fun, but don't think Arrows would appreciate that type of publicity ;)

    I thought Aroows Bae Hawk was cool - but this one is so much better!
    I did a mainden flight in my today.
    First - the CG in manual is WRONG. It should be 60-70cm. Manual has that at 75-85, so a 15cm difference. That error has destoryed a lot of planes - just take a look at other videos with this plane.
    I have put a 4s 2300mah in in, all the way back and a receiver next to the Vector. That results in a good CG - it flies as if on rails. 7 minute flight time.
    No other EDF glides like that one! I was able to land it as if it was a glider - while being high up, in the middle of my field, I just turned off the engine, did two circles to loose altitude and landed in the center with no problem. Bae Hawk would have stalled 3 times already ;)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree - this plane is the BEST of the 50mm offerings by Arrows, but I wouldn't diminish the other two - since I think they are GREAT planes too!

    I've found out that the BAE Hawk flies much better nose heavy with the larger 3s 2200mah battery, as opposed to the recommended 3s 1300mah packs. It seems more steady and rock solid in flight, while the nose doesn't porpoise and hunt up and down like a tail heavy model.

What hhappens if you put a SAFE receiver alongside the vector gyro?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's some branding issues, if Horizon Hobby wants to put this to an end, they could just pull FMS and "POOF" Arrows would cease to exist. The trouble with all the big players, is that they do all drive sales through the same factories in China...so when one leaves, they just sell through another distributor. Arrows doesn't have the legal privilege of doing it. This is because of territory rights. It's the same reason why I can't get a REFLEX in an American Sold FMS Rafale ;(
      Believe me, Arrows doesn't do it to make you mad....they do it so they don't get sued.
      As for the Saylors beating us to the mini's...they evidently got it before us...so I can't stop them getting out videos faster ;(.... Oh well. Don't forget too, they're BOTH working FULL TIME on their channel, and yet they don't find time to reply to 100% of comments. To put it in perspective, I worked 62.25 hours last week and about 67 hours week at my day job, then Megan and I have been working like insane people to get footage ready for both weeks and then next week, when I'll be disappearing from the planet for a week of training (more details coming soon)... I don't think people get it, and I know you're just goofing around...so don't think I missed that...but I want you to know we're pushing HARD to beat them, but it'll only happen if we can get traction from TH-cam. TH-cam is punishing us for long videos, since we get KILLED by our very poor retention rate. If we could improve this, our channel would probably double next year...but here we are...actually giving a crap, trying to help our audience like a couple nice people - the "Do Gooders" don't even make time to talk to their audience, let alone help them fix issue, unless you count their pay-to-play (patreon...which we do also make sure to keep the lines of communication opened for patrons, but just not ONLY our patrons). Gonna go back over the jet again and double check everything and with other batterys as i have a couple of 3s 2200 50c and 30c that we were using in the T33. Just frustrating that it doesnt seem to want to go when we give it a good throw to start it off like yours (and others) seem to do. Still love the jet though when it does eventually get up there!!!.
      Keep up the great work you do on your channel, only recently found you on here (from over in England) but loving what you do. Some great looking stuff you get your hands on that one day i might end up with now that my son has got me back into flying. Loving the look of the Boeing T7a 64mm......think thats going on the shopping list.
      P.s hope the furniture shopping went well

    I hope someone can help me. I received my T33 today. But the Vector system came loose/not installed. And I did not get installation instructions. It has no casing (just a print with wires/connectors). Does anyone know? The detailed video from Brian helps but still am not quite sure.

      Here's what I would do....
      Watch this video (Radio Setup part), and see what direction it's sitting inside the fuse...then copy, using a piece of tape. Hook her up and verify the direction of correction. If it's right, you're set!

    Only … My opinion : Not into calling your wife “ camera crew” Crew would be more then one . She does absolutely a awesome job. Give her a little camera time : even if it’s just a quick “ Hi I’m ……….. the camera Girl.” Been watching lots of your videos recently & subscribed. well done 👍🏼, But my personal opinion, I now know you as Brian , I’d suggest doing a into introduction using editing to open each video with. That “camera crew “ is killing me.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She has been on camera a number of time, but she hates being in front of it - LOL ;) I've tried to convince her and she is getting more willing, but I have to be careful to be selective, so as not to poke the bear too much - LOL!!!
      As for camera CREW - that's always been the joke, and a long standing one at that. It was always supposed to be pseudo acknowledgment that we're just two lowly people working out asses off to make the best content we can, and then this gets misunderstood and/or misconstrued all the time. Some have suggested it was disrespect, or mean - not that you were saying that, but we don't get it. Megan and I have been working together for years, and have no plans to change that, but I'm very fortunate, and you all are too, that she's willing to put up with me on and off camera ;)
      As for changing the opening, we have very slowly morphed to the annoying voice entry. So many people have asked for it, that it has become a "thing"...not my thing, more a "thing" people want, so we TRY to give the people what they want, when it's reasonable and still fits what we're trying to accomplish...
      Either way, glad you're here with us Bill, and hope you'll come to understand better the "why" of what we do, and if after a little more exposure, I trust you'll possibly start to appreciate the nuance. If you want to go back and watch some OLD videos, you'll be very surprised how much the channel has changed, grown, and improved over the years. It might help you feel more connected, which is what we try to do around her...
      Check out the Airbus A338 decal video.
