    Before the first nissan CVT went into production nissan tested them for five years by driving them around the clock 24 hours a day in city traffic, up and up and down the steepest hills they could find, after the five years were up they found there were no problems what so ever. But the thing is ever few months the cars CVT were taken out taken apart and examined, they found almost no wear and tear. But the thing is that ever time they examined the CVT they also change the CVT fluid. So they did not see the carbon build up in the CVT fluid. And the damage it was doing So we know now the problem with these CVT is heat that burns the CVT fluid and the build up of carbon in the the CVT fluid. that coms from that The Carbon in the CVT It is a mild abrasive and if it not removed will effects ever thing in the CVT including a small return valve that has been shown is prone to failure. So the main cause of failure in these CVT are cause by a build up of carbon in the the CVT fluid. It been found now that just by changing CVT fluid regularly as some one on here once said Around about every 30-40,000 miles. the CVT should out last the life of the car, that it was installed in .It not an hi-tect operation to change it you can do it you self easy. but it much mach the same amount of CVT fluid that came out of it.

      Yeah my trans in my 2014 Sentra blew at 159,000 miles but that is because A. I did not change it frequently enough and B. The stealership did not put enough fluid in the last time it was changed. That basically burned it up. I got it rebuilt and I will change the fluid every 30,000-40,000 miles from now on.

    I bough a 12 Nissan Altima with 124000 miles clean title and the car runs great I changed oil CVT fluid spark plugs and now sits at 128500 and still reliable the thing is respect the car and the car will respect you, take care of the car and the car will take care of you.

    Keep up on your oil changes and you should be ok.
    My only advise, if you haven’t done so already, change that CVT transmission fluid now. And subsequently every 30-40,000 miles.

    I bought a Sentra with 136K miles with a salvage title. In 5 years of daily driving the only things that weren't regular maintenance was the front main engine seal was leaking ($375 repair), a fuel pump ($60 repair) and the power steering ($300 repair). The red paint didn't hold up well but everything else worked flawlessly.

    Back in 1991, I bought a 1987 Toyota Corolla with 99,000 miles. Other than regular maintenance, I had no problems with it for over 160,000 additional miles. I finally sold it in 1997 for $500 with around 265,000 miles!!!!

    Do you think it was a smart choice to purchase this high mileage vehicle?

  • @backtoshallabal6662

    Honestly man, we leased a 2017 Rogue in March 2017, to this day it only has 46,000 KM. We have bought many used cars and they all broke down on us down the road. I think if you have the money just buy a brand new one. Its a gamble buying a used car, as you said buying a high mileage car and then something breaks then something will follow. I've experienced that first hand. When my used cars started breaking down, it started breaking down within 6 months, so within 6 months I went to the mechanic hundreds of times.

    I'm considering on getting a 2015 rogue select with 49k miles. I plan on changing CVT fluid when I get it. I'm just nervous because I hear all of these issues with Nissan cvts but I also hear if you change the CVT fluid every 30k then there isn't any issues.

      It's still going strong, currently at 127k miles. Brakes and rotors replaced as well as a wheel bearing. All else is good.

      Best advice I have to start is to make sure all of your different fluids (engine oil, cvt & antifreeze... maybe even brake fluid) are reasonably fresh. If not, take care of those as soon as you can and keep up with the maintenance going forward. Next, drive it like you want it last.
      Keep me updated on how it goes.

  • @karbs76
    @karbs76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You paid 15k plus 1600 for a warranty? I think you overpaid. These cars brand new are about 25k when you factor incentives.

    • @NewClassicCarReviews
      @NewClassicCarReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe... Maybe not. The question is how much is $8k worth to you and what's your overall perspective on the total costs? Depending on what incentives were available for new, I can say I got between 25% and 50% off of what was a 2 year old vehicle at the time in excellent condition.

    • @knurlgnar24
      @knurlgnar24 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      His is fully loaded. It was probably sold to the 1st owner for about $33k. He got about a 50% discount vs new. Whether that discount is worth it for a 2 year old 100k mile vehicle is the question.
