I just picked up a Wrangler Sahara today and I agree with you that fellow Jeep owners are incredibly friendly. Been waved at 5 times today. Love this ride!

Jeep has gone crazy with the pricing. Over 40K for this 2 door Wrangler is hard to swallow.

Look at the way they hold their resale value. It's not a horrible investment for the car world.

Agreed! Wayyyyy to high. Idk who Jeep thinks they are. At the end of the day it’s still a Chrysler product and...well we all know how they are!

Have they? The base MSRP of a 1998 (built 1997-1998) I6 4x4 Wrangler 2dr Sport was $17,630. When adjusted for inflation, that's ~$27,000 with today's prices. The current model, the 2018 Wrangler 2dr Sport, has an MSRP of $26,995, and it is a far superior vehicle by nearly every objective measure and with most every other measure.

You forget the fact that average income hasn't grown at the same rate as inflation.

I just bought my second 2018 Grand Cherokee but these 2018 wranglers raise the bar, and I never would have wanted one. Now thanks to your review I understand more of the appeal. Thank you.

Finally a review on a two door and not a Sahara. My first jeep wrangler was a 2012 sport door door. I loved that vehicle and it was my only vehicle for me and my wife and we actually learned and loved to live with it. Had to sell due to my second child since it was though with my first one due to car seats and stroller, but now my youngest is almost a year and in 3 years she'll be 4, so it's a two door again. Two door are the classic, the iconic model. 2 doors are cheaper like for 4 grand, looks better. V6 is the way to go and hopefully they will offer the diesel on the two door and not just the 4 door like they planned. My next one will be a Rubicon two door basic, soft top, no leather, none of those safety features, screw those extra stuff. Very nice review.

    • @jev2867
      @jev2867 7 ปีที่แล้ว

David Zavala I know Wranglers has had leaky roof problems, how was your experience? Yes about the Two doors, the four doors is a financial move to entice cross shoppers of traditional SUV.

I like the pointouts, agreeable except for the soft-top looks really ugly scrunched back but their are so many options and why not splurge for the leather...really in the end...so many options but very great insight you have, preferences aside

Honestly, Ive now watched this three times (seriously considering getting the new JL model to replace my JK) and you're reviews are engaging and comprehensive. Bravo.....and thank you for this. You helped me decide to get hard top...and yet Im still vacillating between 2 or 4 door...but will be a Rubi.

16:00 According to the owner's manual, page 52, there are two retention straps located on the back of the rear seat, each should be fastened to the corresponding wire loop located on the back of each B pillar. This will hold the rear seat in the folded up position.

Jason Morris Some people say that about the Wrangler too, but after this update with the Jeep, you'd think Toyota would do something with it. Had a 2002 and it was great for us.

Its a great channel, but I can save you 30 mins. 1) Overpriced. 2) Still the same basic suspension that sucks on the highway. 3) Nearly as unaerodynamic as the JK (was .50 now .46, literally a barn door). 4) While virtually every truck manufacturer has started using aluminum and other tricks to reduce weight, the JL in some trims is as much as 4.3K lbs which is stupid heavy for its size . tl;dr: If you aren't spending most of your time at low speeds and offroad and have more money than sense, a Wrangler shouldn't be a first choice. And for fire roads and the like a Jeep Renegade Trailhawk, Alltrack, Crosstrek, and several other options make so much more sense.

Gees, people are so critical and are such experts. You'd think half the people here have owned the thing, and the other half are in the market. In reality, these sell well, and the people who own them are loyal. Doesn't matter what your friend's dad's brother's gardener's hairdresser said about the reliability of their in-law's Wrangler.

Compared to my old Carolina Blue 1999 4 cylinder 5 speed TJ with a one inch lift, wheels and tires this new JL is a Cadillac Moon Buggy!! 285 horsepower? DAYMUN!! Compared to my old 1999 Spartan interior that new JL is a Cadillac! The JL is still too heavy in my opinion but it has lost weight compared to the JK. The Jeep Wrangler's have always had the BEST most commanding seating position I have ever experienced.

    My JL pros
    -possibly the engine(s)
    -8 speed transmission
    -quicker throttle response
    -soft top without ‘cross bar’
    -soft top no zippers
    -quieter soft top
    -body color roll bar
    -flat horizontal dash
    -lighter/aerodynamic tweaks = better MPG
    -real metal interior detail
-real hardware (not faux bolts) interior
    -larger cup holders
-air vents for cooling under hood
-more slant in windshield (think rock damage)
    -doors stay opened
    -cabin is slightly longer
    -doors remove easier/faster
    -telescopic adjusting steering wheel
    -bigger storage tub
    -stronger and lighter tailgate
    My JL cons
    -push button start
    -auto start/stop
    -the bumpers (front and back)
-front running lights on fender flare
-too much digital visual “noise” on dash
    -rear camera
-no hard drive in radio to store music

Low end torque actually isn't important in an offroad vehicle when you have a transfer case to quadruple it. The limiting factor is actually traction (or snapping axle components).
Price is getting crazy though, when I bought my 2000 TJ it was actually very affordable.

Though i really wish they gave it a higher hp version of the pentastar, maybe the 305 hp state of tune it has in the challenger. though more would be ideal because they added a significant amount of weight. the 2017 base model sport 6 speed manual jk weighed 3760lbs, the 2018 base model sport 6 speed manual pentastar weighs 3970. 210 pounds of weight gain warrants an increase in power I think.

The TJ Rubicon I owned had straps that you had to attach to the backseat to hold it in place. I am surprised they did not include these. Same thing for the windshield when it was folded down, they provided straps to keep it from bouncing.

This thing compared to the '03 TJ I had seems like it is a Mercedes.

I've owned Jeeps since 1977. The JKU I own is the favorite vehicle in the family as a daily driver. I'm buying a new JL 2 door to add to the stable of a CJ-5 and a TJ. My daughters love them. I get tired of people whining about using the JK's as a daily driver. If you want a Lexus suv, buy a lexus.

Would the bottom latches on the seat lock if you slammed the seat down without unfolding it (when it popped up like you were complaining?) My GX470 middle row does this when you initially release it (it folds forwards) but then you sham the back of the seat back down and it will relock those latches with the seat back still in the down position.

I liked this review. I have one suggestion. Try not to sound so rushed. Other than that, it was a great video!

Sofian with redline is doing fantastic reviews. Between his performance mazda/jeep reviews I'm really seeing some in-depth coverage that in this case, makes you think the jeep could almost be worth it's price tag with all of the features and planning he points out...if only you could be persuaded the jeep engine/transmission/etc will work on that price tag and I'm almost reluctant to believe the quality and longevity will be there. Interested in the 4cyl auto, ive heard it rev, sounds smooth and strong, I also understand from a dealer there are two 4cyl versions available which didn't see viewable on its website. All of that new tech I'm hesitant this will even be reliable if they cant get basic versions right for reliable lifespan. Its like Jeep has an engineer for every component, all are Neanderthals and all speak a different language. Makes me think they cheated their way through engineering school, found a job with Chrysler.

I liked my 1994 better. 2 years old was 15K. Drove it 2 years. Got 15K ! Best resale has always been Wrangler.

Sofyan why didn't you help the Range Rover at 28:01?

The styling changes are obviously subtle, but I think the JL is better looking. Stock JK always seemed slightly awkward looking compared to the TJ it replaced. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the new ones just look "right", to my eye. Am I crazy?

Very nice reciew

I never had issues. I actually like the way it drove. But the hard top was a pain to take off by myself, so a soft is better since where I live the coldest it gets is like 45 and the hottest 100, I live in San Diego.

When is the 2.0 TURBO coming out?

  • @waynerhea6649
    @waynerhea6649 7 ปีที่แล้ว

I feel like the 2 liter turbo is the best way to go you get great MPG and torque for off road it's also probably lighter

I did some math a while ago. Although there weren't the EPA values yet, I estimated them on the last year's engines basis. Considering the 2L turbo requires the intermediate octane gasoline, and its average price increase, most probably the two cars are going to cost around the same in fuel.
But the 2L is quicker because the torque is lower and for sure it can burn less if you drive with a light foot. By highway them both suck because of aerodynamics.

Question: Doesn't the hardtop on the JL have removable rear windows? Or is that only for the 4dr?

This thing is a serious offroader I mean it can handle the worst dumps I could throw at it , the center console can hold 2 maybe 3 dumps depending what you have been eating .

Hey Sofyan great review again. I currently have ‘16AWD sienna. Do you highly recommend this JL trading it up to any other SUVs out there? I was thinking about between this and the 4Runner. Been watching your channel for years now and I’m learning as I go. Thanks.
