When you move to a foreign country to live, then you need to sign up to their system. I’m a resident in France and pay into the tax, healthcare systems etc. You can’t have it both ways. The same thing is happening here because people have never registered. Idiots.

@Cian MacGana the reason there's no food shortages lies in the lack of controls at the UK border, nothing is checked so nothing is delayed or returned. The UK government didn't prepare for the situation and decided to just skip the formalities for the time being, the EU countries however did the work and can now happily confiscate ham sandwiches and the like as well as send lorries back that don't have the proper paperwork. 😉

Half of my family is British and from first hand experience a relative working for city planning in London told us how many people she came in contact with actually believed that "Brexit" meant that Non-British had to leave Britain, you know .... Brexit. It's in the name, isn't it. That sentiment and the misinformed casting their vote is very characteristic of this mess. And somehow I am not surprised that the very same people who, driven by xenophobia, voted for Brexit somehow feel unfairly treated that their status in a now foreign country is no longer the same as before.
When does the UK realises that it is a middling country with 70 million people heavily dependent on trade and commerce. Brits living abroad voted Brexit, farmers voted Brexit (depending on cheap labour and selling their produce to Europe), company owners whose livelihood depended on trading with Europe voted Brexit, regions that were subsidised with EU money voted "Leave". And then re-elected a mendacious PM who gave them the most radical version of Brexit despite the fact that he promised not to do that. Guys, you are not the victim here. British citizens who are true expats, understand the regulations and there is no uncertainty...it is the same as anywhere else to be honest.
