I want to give my most sincerest thanks for this quick guide. I tried with Microsoft Photos(I really tried) and though it goes nice on a good day, most others have constant errors saying 'something went wrong' and transferring the items to the 'pictures' section when aiming for a somewhere else; happens if you don't confirm the desired destination EVERY TIME. I did some self studying, learning about hidden factors like System Data(on iPhone) growing with transfers. All of that stopped when the software crashes every time I change the destination, even after repairing and restarting. I finally gave up, arms in the air and all, and after seeing this video everything was perfect. Now I can now fully ditch Microsoft Photos and never look back. Big thanks!

Hi, I used to transfer videos by phone cable from iphone to PC , the video displayed on PC would be double the size on iphone (which is good and expected), the codec of the vid shows H.264 on PC and the quality is just good and natural. Now when I transfer the very same video, from the same iphone to the very same PC (even to other PCs) via the same cable, the video file size is half, requires HEVC codec to play and when i downloaded hevc and played the video, visual quality is just bad ; bitrate is cut in half, fand file size is half than the previous copy that I had transferred many months ago. Also, the good quality copy that shows H.264 on PC , now shows HEVC on the iphone I only have this issue with videos now, not with pics. Inever had had it with videos before. Would you happen to know where this might come from and how to remeditae? (N.B: dropbox and icloud don't help as they export the file from phone as compressed; converting codecs doesn't do anything neither; And "keep originals" option doesn't matter at all) Thank you hery much
@@CanadianComputerCollector thanks ; but that's not my problem. iTunes is fine for mp3s - but it's forcing it upon us that I take issue with. There is no good reason for requiring it to be running because apple refuses to release a proper windows driver.
This is probably because Apple's iOS devices use the file system APFS. Windows can likely only read limited data from the device without Apple's own software or drivers. Thus, that's why you need iTunes on Windows to access all of that juicy iPhone data. It is silly, but Apple and Microsoft have been doing this dance for eons as far as file system compatibility. At least this wasn't WIndows XP with a FAT32 file system... then you really would have had trouble with an iPhone video over 4GB! I've been there before with a co-worker... the solution? Plug it into a Mac and burn a DVD instead of reformatting their poor PC. Hah!
At one point there was an attempt to rip the device driver out of the installer so it could be used separately, but apple 'didn't like' that and instead built them directly into the binary which is what you have to deal with today. You also need to go into Services and disable the service that starts to share the itunes library over network. That is always running separately from the application start up.
