      @@cbigg81 Thank you! I've only had fleeting cravings, but they pass quickly. I celebrate every positive that comes from being sober and it helps me ignore what I enjoyed about drinking. Got a doctor appt in 3 weeks. I may be able to come off of blood pressure meds after having been on them since 1996. Too many good things to risk by ever picking up another drink.

    Watching you cut stumps, moving logs with choker and shackle, reminded me of working with my Dad and Grandpa clearing land, sometimes block and tackle with a short chain and a slip hook to pull out brush, so we could build Dad's last house. Then I thought, it must take Cody three times as long having to set up a camera for each of those shots. Close, you said four times as long. Cheers.

      It' not a choker. It's just a too small piece of braided wire cobbed together with a cheap simple "shackle" from the local hardware store. It's all kinked and twisted. Yeah I guess you could call this "skidding logs" in some way.

    The best thing you can buy for your tractor is a trailer. You can transport everything with it. Much better than a bucket. We use our trailer and tractor to transport timber, animals, people, tools and everything you can think of.

      @@wranglerstar here a single axle trailer works just fine. Something along the lines of 6 by 3 feet. If there is enough space for the tractor in the forest, there should be enough for the trailer too. Ofc it might be different there but here in east Europe it works perfect

    Where to start...?
    Subdivide the land, make your own home, get that set up, safe and secure, with that a base for work from, then start to pick projects.
    Some ideas on projects;
    Cabins (rentable)
    Dorm style Bunk house
    Common building (would house kitchen, eating/meeting hall, Bathrooms and showers)
    The house you live in now could be converted to a home for the couple that you would hire to run a lot of the property and such and maybe another room or two for guests, and or hired hands.
    It could also be a meeting room and or office that is outside of your home.
    Build a large covered area that can keep you out of the rain, snow and sun, it does not have to have walls
    Uses of the large covered area could be for timber framing classes, could hold events like summer dances or your apple cider party. In the winter while it is not heated, it would still keep the snow off you and you could flood it and have Ice Hockey camps there.
    OK I'm spitballing here, but trying to help....
    Don't forget the woodturning classes
    Cheers from Tokyo!

    I was meaning to suggest on your ministry/school idea, I think you could go far simply developing 10 or 20 camping spots, maybe with some electricity or even sewer, instead of feeling like you have to provide housing. It would limit your audience but provide a good way to bootstrap and gauge interest. You could probably find local RV owners who would do weekly rental to let your non-rv owning campers rent something to stay in. Just some thoughts. As to the whiners talking about you just want free labor, I think its sad if they think the only compensation for good work is $$. Companionship, learning, fellowship, and new friends are all best made over shared work. Good luck regardless of your decision.

    Painting your chokers, chains and such a high visibility color like fluorescent orange or green or yellow can sure be helpful so you don't miss something on the ground. Wrapped a lost choker around my bush hog this spring. Had to cut it out of the bush hog which in turn started a grass fire then gear oil fire. Made for an exciting afternoon I'd rather not repeat. Got everything put out but was about 5 minutes from having to make the "call of shame" to the VFD.
