Inside The Devil's Home Base: Exploring Bombay Beach California Ghost Town

  • Think about the world after the apocalypse, the best example of that world is Bombay Beach, California. Bombay Beach is a fascinating, sad and depressing disaster zone. It's a ghost town in every sense - broken homes, dismantled cars and empty trailers with the aura of lost souls lingering around every corner. It also smells like salt and rotten eggs, while decaying fish bones align the beach in a frightening pattern of doom. The ghost town is located on the Salton Sea, California and is the lowest community in the United States at 223 feet (68 m) below the sea level.
Bombay Beach's decline began in the 1970s, when the runoff, full of salty chemicals, led to a warning that the salinity of the lake would no longer sustain wildlife and the town became a ghost town.

Two pieces of good news about Salton Sea for y'all. First, the Salton Sea Management program is working on 1750 acres of the lake and the shore near Salton
City and Bombay Beach. The goal is to restore the habitat and to mitigate blowing dust. The second is that lithium has been discovered there with companies working on low impact extraction. Nothing brings in progress like money and, as the video shows, this place is in of all the help it can get. I'm old enough to have first visited Salton Sea with my folks in the late Fifties. Ya' shoulda been there.

Countless millions of dollars have been wasted for decades, it's maddening really and sad. Interestingly current talk is that a reduction in the amount of lake water may likely have a cause and effect relationship with the area's seismic activity in that less water will relieve pressure on the multiple fault lines that come together within the Salton Sink.
The dust mitigation program in Bombay Beach consists of rows of hay bales laid out in various locations at the playas edge. Many, my myself included, find it a joke as the amount of dust kicked up from tilling the soil and then hauling the bales to locations was immense.

The bus at 1:09 is from a UK bus service called first bus, the color scheme matches the ones they use and it’s the same kind of model. I’m scratching my head on how it ended up randomly in a ghost town in California, someone must have imported it over only to leave it like that…? People can and do live in them in the UK, but I don’t see how or why someone would import one unless maybe they were from the UK and already owned it.
Maybe someone’s old food truck project, I have seen them like that before.
Very weird, probably very rare as well in the US.

Probably a superior build, Your school buses leave something to be desired built properly they are not, That "double decker" has a steel frame throughout and fair up well in crashes turning car's into mincemeat, I've seen it, The car was the "crumple zone" a bit of plastic ripped off the bus and the "air brakes" severed that was it, Back on the road 2 day's later, The was finished

I discovered this while on Google map's and did a Google search which directed me to TH-cam presuming that was the same as this, Basically a playa lake, Water flows but doesn't flow out,but lost to evaporation leaving behind salt, That's what the Bonnerville salt flat's are a huge inland sea lost to evaporation and this lot built a "Resort" around it without understanding it, And it became too "Salty" and was abandoned?
