Young people will never understand that each and every single one of these games required at least 4-5 minutes of load time to enjoy. You load up a TH-cam video and you get them all in a row, nice and neat, without any delay... But the reality back in the day was that most of us kids who played games on that system spent roughly 70 percent of their time waiting for them to load, lmao.
When you played from Tape on a C64; yes, and then you could also discover, after you had thee, that it had a 'Load Error' .. Luckily I owned a Disk Drive :)
I never owned Cyclons (03:24:16) back in the day. A game originally released in 1983 by Syntax Software I believe, but the Rabbit Soft version seems to be more common.
Heyya Mr Asphodel -- a few thoughts while watching: - Caren - Thank You Edition: I'm really impressed by the graphics!! Wow! - Cataball: I love this concept. - Clystron: The game itself is okay to play, but I loooooved its loading music. It was so beautiful I launched the game for this music alone. - Crossroads: Wow, intense!! I have to try that game. - Crush: Is that a Katakis/Denaris derivate? - Cybernoid II: that one has the best game music of the entire C64 game library for me, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on :P I love it!! - Danger Freak: I never realised its music is so similar to Katakis/Denaris? - Deadline, and even more so, Duel (Quicksilva): very impressive parallax effect - Denaris: I played that game to death. I see you liked it too, because you're showing level 2 in the vid and not just level 1 :D - Dragon's Lair - Escape from Singe's: the water is very creatively done, I absolutely love this effect, chef's kiss
Being one of the more recent releases on C64; Caren (00:17:48) is really worth checking out as a point n click adventure. There's another version of Cataball (00:31:10) called Hoppin' Mad th-cam.com/video/RKe096klPg4/w-d-xo.html. Clystron (01:39:24) I never really played back in the day; it does look and sound good though. Crossroads 1& 2 (02:56:05) were quite popular with some people I believe. Crush (02:59:02) was a spiritual sequel to Katakis and often called Katakis 2; Chris Hülsbeck music included. However Smash Designs would announce an official sequel years later for PC and C64 (in 2005?), but unfortunately it never surfaced. Cybernoid (03:16:51) and Cybernoid II (03:17:20) are absolute classics with legendary music indeed. Danger Freak was also by Rainbow Arts (03:35:09) with music from Chris Hülsbeck :). Deadline (03:57:58) and Duel (05:46:59) do have nice parallax effects. Be sure to check out recent releases like Soul Force th-cam.com/video/wp1zgwidf1k/w-d-xo.html. Singe's Castle (and Dragon's Lair) were quite an achievement on C64 (05:29:08), nice cartoon-like graphics. And yes I played Denaris (04:24:41) to death , well Katakis that is; my all time favorite shooter on C64!
Commodore 64 was my childhood, like many others. I have some sweet memories with it, but after looking back how games looked and played back than... Yikes.
Yeah, it was a time of experimenting; lots of good ideas started here gaming wise, unfortunately also bad ones. The gaming scene on the C64 were in part, what now would be called 'Indie'; lots of games programmed by one person in their bedroom. Though big studios like Activision and Electronic Arts all started here. For a summary of modern releases: th-cam.com/video/uTPu8wLA1Hg/w-d-xo.html. Check out titles like Sam's Journey.
Dream Warrior.... Maan how long i tried to find this game but could not recall the name of it. Played as 5-6 years old kid, and was not speaking english. Thanks to you, finally found it. It was such a scary, misterious game as a little kid...
Incrediblie work, the best of all video onj TH-cam. Hope wich you take many likes. P.S. Hope of see in future a ZX SPECTRUM, MSX, or AMSTRAD collection of your level.

Around 6000 :P there is estimated to be more than 10.000 titles on C64; but that also includes a lot of basic and naff games. Not really worth including I think.

It doesn't matter how many hundreds of Commodore 64 games I've played since the mid 80's, there's still many thousands that I've never heard of.
And there are even more added each month or so now.
@@Asphodellife Try Soulless 2 (2023) and Pig Quest (2023)
@@MarquisDeSang Yeah, those are great titles; especially Pig Quest (th-cam.com/video/rSdAoI68z-A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X0UiQcB4IUqMOGOe)

Ha, I wondered that myself. Could be beer though..
1:59:40 Hahaha what a great idea, i love it!!!
Even after more than 3 decades it's still home to the weirdest original concepts :)
I think a lot of work has gone into it.. Thank you Axel :)
It sure did; the pack for Xbox (for which I made these originally) was designed as a top 300. It became 6000 😁
"Cyclons" really takes me back - my VERY first C64 games 🙂

Wow I only just stumbled upon this video...gonna be a huge project to watch this series -->> kudo's for puttin' this together....
My favorite gaming systems are these old retro computers! Cauldron 2 with the Pumpkin is an all time favorite on any system 😁
Famous title indeed (00:35:08). Takes a while to learn to control the Pumpkin though.. 😄

5:33:40 - Pretty sure this is Uridium, not Dreadnought.
Nope, definitely 'Dreadnought' (gamebase64.com/game.php?id=2341&d=18&h=0) lots of clones and rip-offs of Uridium back then

Never owned a C16 myself. It has some qualities of it's own I never knew about (like more colours).
Cabal looked very nice for being C64
Yeah, both US 00:00:59 and EU versions; however the EU 00:00:31 version was a better port in my opinion.
A commodore 64 cd......
