Just wow! I have a friend who says Cy's character of Ltn Green was beyond important to him as the only POC at school when he was growing up in the 60's. Im going to send this to him now, it will probably make him cry. Mr Dale, great work.
It's not enough - with all due respect, whats bin done in Cy's honour is not enough. A lovely man, a great actor with bags of presence AND in my humble opinion, a MEGASTAR.
I had the pleasure of knowing Cy in the last few years of his life, and attended his funeral which had surprisingly few people considering his accomplishments. Thank you for taking the time to create this video to honour this quietly extraordinary man.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Cy at a Convention some years ago. He was surprised that someone would remember his appearances on the Tonight programme and when I purchased his book he was very pleased to sign it and wrote some lovely words in it. Thanks Chris for a very interesting and well researched video.
Such an amazing fellow. Cy always cheered me up whenever I saw him on TV back in 60s. And then his voice jumped out of the Telly in Captain Scarlet. Wonderful memories.

If anyone's interested, the caption underneath his POW mugshot reads "A member of the RAF of indeterminate race", and is the inspiration for the title of one of his books

I'd long marveled at the richness of the voices in the Supermarionation shows I could view at their Stateside premieres. When I chanced upon the actors' film or television appearances their voices gave them away, at times instantly, and I'd watch the end credits to make the connection. Cy's voice was among those in the forefront. I'm glad to know more about him.
That is a remarkable story. I've always been interested in world war II history and his involvement with the RAF was the highlight for me.
His acting career was just as interesting as well, he sounded like someone who took his job very seriously.
RIP Cy Grant.

Fantastic video. I knew nothing of Cy Grant, other than that he voiced my favourite character on my favourite Supermarionation series.
I didn't know the person behind the voice of Lieutenant Green was but I was happy to see the story of the life and time of Mr. Grant , he was a great man; and an extraordinary person in the art world. I was delighted to learn he was in the military and played an important part in servicing . My condolences to his family and friends on his loss .
That was brilliant. A fantastic mini documentary. Absolute class. An incredible man. Someone should make a film about his life.

How interesting and what an accomplished and talented/brave person Cy Grant looked to have been. I confess, I watched this on seeing a rerun of the Antiques Roadshow, and his daughter (who is about my age) was talking about her father and had bought in the escape map of when he was a Navigator in the RAF. But when I heard he was also a singer (and presenter ) in the 1960's, and was the actor behind Lieutenant Green in Captain Scarlett . . . I felt really connected, as that was my favourite program as a child! . . . I grew up with his him and his other Captain Scarlett comrades! But seeing him, I think I do remember seeing him in those days, his face looks very familiar - and warm.
But on top of that - I was fascinated to know he had come from British Guinea, and joined the RAF. My own father was in the RAF in WWII (he was from Norfolk though!), and groundcrew in Burma, but my father in law also comes from British Guinea and joined the RAF (after the second world war) and spent 25 years in the RAF. My two daughters have both of those nationalities in their genes, so it very interesting to hear the story of Cy Grant, and his background . . .I will make sure I tell them about him . . .. it is thanks to people like him that we are the integrated society in the UK that we are now.

A great British- Caribbean pioneer actor very underrated and too much ignored Cy Grant strongly reminds me of Harry belafonte or Sidney Poitier in his accomplishments and talents I wasn't aware of his other acting Roles or his stage work or published writings but He will always be lieutenant Green in Captain Scarlet .. as much of a pioneer on TV as Nichelle Nichols was in Star Trek.

Very interesting
I am sure the tribute to Cy Crant will continue for many years to come I myself watched Cpt Scarlet and well remember Lt Green and I think this one character stould out as both a black character and had some of the best lines in the series we really didn't know his first name until later i forgot it now but it seems strange they never used they real names much? Cy Crant must have appeared in other TV series which aren't mentioned here but did he once appear in Faulity Towers once? And I seem to think he was in Please Sir? Anyway fantastic video

the funny thing is, that i never saw captain green as a black man. he just looked to me as tanned. i thought ,by his accent, that he was french.

In 1943, on his third operation, Flight Lieutenant Grant was shot down over The Netherlands during the Battle of the Ruhr. He parachuted to safety into a field (south of Nieuw-Vennep, as he later found out) and was helped by a Dutch family, although a policeman subsequently handed him over to the German forces, and for the next two years Grant was imprisoned in Stalag Luft III camp, 160 kilometres (99 mi) east of Berlin.
Actually, that policeman was also working for the resistance. He took Cy to his home on his moped, introduced him to his wife, showed him his illegal radio-set and gave him tea.
He knew the Germans were looking for Cy and that people hiding him ran the risk of being shot. Cy himself wrote in his memoir that he quickly realised that as a black man his chances of escaping and staying unnoticed were nil.
The man at 9:25 was only months away from being born in 1943 when his mother tended to Cy’s minor woundings and shared some food with him, before being picked up by the village-policeman.
My father (seen at 10:28) did all the research into the crash of Cy’s Lancaster.
This film is a wonderful tribute to my friend Cy Grant.
