About the game:
Malenia, Blade of Miquella is a Boss in Elden Ring. Malenia was born as a twin to Miquella, the most powerful of the Empyreans. She is renowned for her legendary battle against Starscourge Radahn during the Shattering, during which she unleashed the power of the Scarlet Rot, reducing Caelid to ruins. Wielding a prosthetic arm and leg, Malenia is located in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. This boss is optional, as players do not need to defeat it in order to advance in Elden Ring. Malenia is also the feature of the game's Collector's Edition, which includes a statue of her and a replica of her helmet.

Elden Ring PS5 is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game's setting.
Elden Ring PS5 takes place in the Lands Between, sometime after the destruction of the titular Elden Ring and the scattering of its shards, the Great Runes. Once graced by the Ring and the Erdtree which symbolizes its presence, the realm is now ruled over by the demigod offspring of Queen Marika the Eternal, each possessing a shard of the Ring that corrupts and taints them with power. As Tarnished - exiles from the Lands Between who lost the Ring's grace and are summoned back after the Shattering - players must traverse the realm to ultimately find all the Great Runes, restore the Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord.

I couldn't agree more. You summed up exactly how I've felt going through the FromSoft games. I just started my journey early last year with Elden Ring, but have since played that multiple times, as well as Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Perseverance is what it's all about, and it feels GREAT when you finally overcome!!!
see that one of the things i dislike about these games. the elitist attitude that you aren’t part of the community if you don’t melee everything or solo it. i see now it was early on that mati was guilted into never using summons or magic/ranged weapons. i don’t have time to fight a boss 202 times. i beat ds1 using mostly melee but i used summons so im not part of the community. whatever.

Even if you're someone who enjoys these games regardless of how you play it makes you a part of the community. I said that specifically for him because ER was his first souls game and he overcame the boss by trying again and again. That's what I meant by it.

also she’s the only boss that made me redo my whole build because i just couldn’t fight her by my means LMFAO. i went in using colossal swords and came out a full arc/dex dual wielding katanas. fighting her changed me and when i FINALLY beat her by myself it was so satisfying

Don't wanna be a douche, but Bloodhound step and Rivers of Blood at that stage of the game is NOT hard mode. Nor was he underleveled. BUT he did a fantastic job which deserves a lot of appreciation.

Very late to this video, but if you were new to Souls games here, and you’re first time fighting her, then major props to you. No mimic, no player summons, is impressive.

I’ve played Souls games for years before Elden Ring and it took me over well over 200 times to finally beat her solo. It wasn’t until maybe the 213th attempt I found out throwing freeze pots will stop that crazy water fowl move.

The tip doesn't matter anymore since you beat her BUT
the first flurry can be avoided in many ways:
Proccing ice status by throwing ice pot when she's in the air. This is a sure fire way.
Using barricade shield as of war on shield while dodging.
Bloodhoundstep.
Or just being good at your spacing throughout the fit. Get a hit in and get far back every time.
For the second hit you just dodge inwards once and for the third one you spam dodge outwards or behind you.

man i cheesed her ass with the froststomp ash of war, day 2 of release, next day it was nerfed hahaha xD
i caved in and switched to dual katana but no RoB or swarm of flies just to feel some sort of progress in learning her. She feels so satisfying to fight once you learned it, but getting to that point is so hard because she basically instakills you for one mistake. I also used freeze pots in hopes of staggering her out of the waterfowldance, which worked well enough. She took me so much strategizeing and build changes to beat her without summons (and i only cried 2 times)
Greatshield with Barricade Shield Ash of War shuts her shit down. Makes the fight way easier.
I’m working my way through the Elden Ring series and I have to say congratulations on beating Malenia! That was masterfully fought. I remember how stoked I was after beating her solo for the first time. I had a different method than you but it was still worth the pain and suffering

Here's every way to dodge Waterfowl dance!
The first flurry is the hardest. The second and third flurry can be dodged by rolling into, then rolling backwards.
RUN! As soon as she jumps up, run and jump at the very end while two handing to dodge the first flurry, roll into the second flurry, and roll backwards for the third flurry.
Geometry. Use the tree to block the flurry.
Shield. Block the first flurry, roll into the second flurry, roll back the third flurry.
Bloodhounds step. SPAM.
Vow of the Indomitable then roll the first flurry.
With a light loadout, roll the entire thing.
When directly underneath Malenia, spin around her, then roll in the opposite direction to juke the first flurry, then dodge as usual with the rest.
Finally my favorite. Throw a fucking ice pot at her.

I went trekking the toughest trail in the area during the weekend - 9 hours straight under the blazing sun. Since you're currently on your last FromSoft soulsorne game with Demon's Souls I've been going back and rewatching your series on each of these games and it's crazy to see how far you've come in these games. The amount of perseverance and determination you had fighting Malenia here, especially since Elden Ring was your first ever Soulsborne game is insane. I've always been of the mindset of play these games however you want, if you want to use summons, overlevel yourself, or use magic then that's totally fine and there's no shame in that. That being said it always makes me happy seeing someone conquer bosses like Malenia or the Orphan of Kos or Sister Friede through sheer determination. That feeling and rush you get when you finally beat a challenging boss that's been kicking your ass is why I love these games so much.
This video is so rewatchable! I never knew it could be so captivating to watch a man lost his virginity (of souls😂).

@@matiasgago I’ll be honest. I didn’t really struggle with Malenia. I think it took me 3 tries, only because I was a high level mage and made everyone my bitch with the Falling Star Beast Jaw. I highly recommend that weapon. Anyway, both Maliketh and the Elden Beast gave me way more trouble as well as the disguised Runebear in the Snowfields. As far as other FromS. titles, I think The Nameless King, Ludwig the Holy Blade, and Lawrence the First Vicar were all way tougher fights than Malenia. She’s about on par with Orphan of Kos for me.
@@FFox316 I didn't find malenia too challenging either (aside from waterfowl) but that's because nameless king, midir, and gael whipped me into shape 😂
@@coolguystorm1248 Oh yeah I forgot about Midir. He was absolutely a tougher fight for me. Gael I think may qualify as my favorite FromSoft boss of all time.
I forgot to mention you can use an upgraded Brass Shield to block the crazy spin attack. Would have saved you a lot of pain lol.

Watching people beat her is always satisfying. Because after so many hours of this game, dodging her "unfair" attacks, has never felt better. Beat her using a straight sword and shield. Some moves or mechanics may seem unfair, but in the end, its all to push us to be stronger than before. Hope more bosses like her occur in the dlc.

This fight would have been perfect if phase 1 wouldn't be so damn long and the holy lawn mower wouldn't chase you through an entire football stadium.

Hey mati. Been following you for awhile now and even watched your other souls videos. I decided to come back and watch this one though for the first time after beating malenia solo yesterday without a summon or any help. As a souls veteran who has gotten to level 710 on EACH darksouls game I have to say this boss gave me more anger then any boss I’ve EVER faced in any game and I’ve beaten the valkries on god of war on give me god of war difficulty and even beaten bosses in games with premadeaths as a thing and NOTHING came close to this. It took me 2 hours straight with a mage build and I was level 180.. I had so much adrenaline when I beat her I was shaking so bad I couldn’t hold my controller and was sick to my stomach from the adrenaline rush. This dedication I admire so much. I almost gave up but I had to do it to prove to myself and also to be able to hold my head high and be able to tell everyone I soloed her myself,no help, no summons and no cheese or bleed build. Just pure determination. My stream watched me put myself through madness to do this. From a souls veteran, you have my respect

Malenia might not be just strongest boss in the elden ring, but strongest one that fromsoft has ever produced so far, title previously held by the likes of Champion Gundyr (Dark Souls 3), Demon of hatred (Sekiro) and Orphan of Kos (Bloodborne). Definitely the toughest boss I’ve ever experienced in my life mainly cuz of her roll move, it is so painful bro. Overall tho I think it’s def in my top 3. The music, the environment, the cutscenes, pure gold in my opinion

Holy shit, I don’t think I’ll ever have the perseverance or skill to do that, but it’s absolutely incredibly to see someone’s dedication to defeat her! I’ve started my own journey to become a better gamer recently, and I’m so freaking bad right now but I know I’ll learn the mechanics one day (I used to play a lot of PS, so I just need to shake off the rust 😂)

Oh, just in case it helps, because I've noticed a moment where it would've helped: you can drink multiple flasks in quick succession, instead of drinking them one by one with full animation, by pressing the use item button multiple times during drinking animation.

I’ve beaten this damn boss multiple times and every time I watch someone else try and continuously fail, I just wonder how I ever managed to beat her.
I think some people struggle with actual learning and adapting. If you look closely, most of these players who die repeatedly for hours and hours are always dying because they get too greedy AND they don't try rolling in different directions/with better timing. I don't know why but they repeat the same mistakes over and overt again.
