Cool note but during Godfrey’s cutscene you can see the guidance of grace that’s usually from your grace on the map form a rainbow between you and him, meaning that the grace of gold granted to the Tarnished have inevitably led the two of you to each other, ending in a final battle between the first Elden Lord and the second-to-be. Which is why Godfrey has so much respect and class. He sees you as the final battle in his own Elden Ring playthrough
Fun fact, the Crucible Knight bosses you've been having such a hard time with were Godfrey's personal men. They're all basically mini Godfreys complete with their own version of his Stomp attack. It's also speculated that Nepheli was Godfrey's daughter, though not with Marika. She was adopted by Gideon Ofnir and served him. But every time she introduces herself she says "My name is Nepheli Loux, warrior" just the same as Godfrey when he delivers his true name "Hoarah Loux, warrior."
Godfrey lore dump: Morgott and Mohg are Godfrey's sons, he was originally Hoarah Loux before becoming Godfrey when he became elden lord, and Serosh (the lion) was placed on his back to keep quell his bloodlust (hence the detail of Serosh biting him the whole first phase), he kills Serosh because he recognizes he needs his full strength to beat you, when Queen Marika banished him from the land he became the first tarnished.
Hoarah Loux, chieftain of the badlands, has the coolest artwork in the opening trailer, and I can recomend that you rewatch it now that you know who the people in it are. You might also remember the name Nepheli Loux who was sir Gideons adoptive daughter and the rightful ruler of Stormveil castle.
When I faced Gideon the first time my Dark soul‘s PTSD, I went after him and I hit him with like five strong attacks and he died before he even started the fight 😂😂😂. Good shit bro can’t wait for you to become Elden LORD!!!.
This was my experience too. I immediately ran at him. Hit him with a jump attack, gave him the bloodhound fang combo, and one more jump attack. He died and his audio was still playing lol. I was waaaaay over leveled for him.
Congrats as always. IMO Godfrey awards aggression. I tried to stay on top of him constantly, only getting out of the way for the ground explosion attacks. You've done great though, no mimics, slightly underlevelled and still kicking ass. Can't wait to see the "final" episode.

Such an awesome fight! One of the best this franchise have ever seen and you did better than I did my first time fighting him (I have played every Soulsborne game from FromSoft)! I died atleast 120+ times to this WARRIOR!! Well done Mat well flippin done!!
That finish was heart-pounding! Nice work on this fight dude. Godfrey is one of my favorite bosses in this game. Phase two was so scary my first playthrough, but I loved the rhythm that phase one has. The final boss is really cool, but some will say it's got some top-tier BS, so we'll see how it goes for you

Man I just realize that out of all the ER videos I watched (my own progress is slow) this is the first time I hear the full Gideon conversation and his death dialogue LOL, every other youtuber just started smacking him before he even finishes the 1st sentence and poise break him to death. I didn't even know he can do so much magic!!!! Absolute respect for letting the man do what he does!!! Now he is a lot more fun than I thought! I think maybe improving his poise and AI mechanics (he is the all knowing!) with more clever spell combo could really make him one of the most in-depth and interesting (and annoying) Boss in the game. It's a bit of a shame that they missed this opportunity. It would be really cool if the All-Knowing could out smart players at least in the 1st run.

I think you worked a lot for the Ranni one, and it's one that isn't just a variation from the normal one (you might want to check the others, at least on video - tho I think they need some lore youtuber explanation to feel significant heh). The frenzied flame one can be an excuse to play again for some, too.

But again you did it, solo, very satisfying (to the audience at least).🥊 I cannot believe the finale is so near.🥲 I’m just so happy I stumbled upon your channel - given me so much joy. Congratulations, you have come so far, now finish this! :) Hoarah Loux was the first Tarnished mentioned in the intro, along with Fia (huggin' lady), Gold Mask, Dung Eater and Gideon. He was "Chieftain of the Badlands" and was chosen by Queen Marika to be her consort and became the first Elden Lord. Serosh (the lion) was put on his back to try and calm his barbaric tendencies by burrowing it's claws and teeth into his flesh in order to keep the savage at bay. This was done by the Two Fingers and all the Empyreans (those elevated and favored by the Greater Will to gain great powers and rule the Golden Order) have had these animal "servants" tending to them. Maliketh was Marikas own servant and Ranni got Blaidd. Hoarah Loux reverted back from Godfrey the First Elden Lord by ripping off Serosh in order to gain back all his WWE moves. He is also father to Godwyn the Golden, Godrick the Grafted, Mohg and Morgott/Margit which would suggest that his offspring wasn't cutting it according to the Golden Order and the Greater Will (Mohg and Morgott were filthy omens, mutated freaks tossed into the sewers of Leyndell and Godrick became completely mad and started heavy grafting experiments to make up for his inadequacies) and the only real heir, Godwyn, was murdered with Destined Death on the Night of the Black Knives which was believed to be orchestrated by non other than Ranni who sacrificed her own flesh and body in order to overthrow the Golden Order and defy the rule of the Greater Will since she has her own agenda of instilling a new order governed by the night and moon. Half of this stuff is impossible to pick up on if you don't read every item description and still much is left up for interpretation and speculation by the community. I have my own theories to what is really going on in Elden Ring, what the Erdtree really is and what the Greater Will and the Two Fingers are really doing under the guise of a "Golden Order", but I will save that for my comment on the final video so as to not spoil anything :D

@@matiasgago I do understand that people get frustrated with having so much obscured and vague in the story but I and many others love this. The story becomes it's own game, a puzzle that lasts even longer than the time you spend in-game and it makes the game so much bigger and more grand in the end. It is like reading a book and having your own mind conjure up this immense thing rather than a visually spectacular movie that lays it all out. I like both things and sometimes the movie is better than any book, but sometimes the mind and interpretation is grander than the sum of all parts and all the Souls games do this so well and gives you the opportunity to experience and make the story your own.
I think that from the poll, bloodborne would be the best option, is still a souls game like elden ring, but is unique enough to give you a whole new experience and fresh look at what FromSoft is capable of, the levels of creativity from that game are incredible.

OMG I absolutely did this to my D&D players when I was DMing my homebrew campaign hahahahahahaha. My PCs were chasing after a Lich and reporting all their findings on said Lich's secret necromancy tomes to a leader-figure NPC. But secretly the leader was learning the Lich's craft, after they "defeated" the Lich, leader showed up spamming every spell the PCs found for him LOL

@@matiasgago @Matias Gago I have no doubt you can beat the game however a couple tips for the last boss if you are interested : -Definitely get as much holy dmg negation as you can, haligdrake talisman, holy dried beef, etc. 2) Consider respeccing just enough into faith to use the black flame fireball incantation (it tracks them slightly and does dmg over time) or put the black flame tornado AoW you got from beating godskin duo onto a weapon. Black flame is clutch for the final fight
Sorry to seem to be giving advice all the time haha. Just thought you should know its much more efficient to have all your levels put into one of your damage stats rather than 2 (eg for bloodhound fang, it has better dex scaling. So 99 dex is better than 50 dex 50 str) if that makes any sense. This is also good advice for bloodborne, dark souls etc. Another fun video bro, looking forward to the finale :D
The next boss is going to be hard so a few friendly tips. You don't have to complete a boss in one sitting. The brain has only so much stamina and there is no shame in giving up for the day. It is a well known fact that brain organizes information while sleeping. So many times I had to give up for the day, sleep and then come back next day to beat in boss in first or second attempt (Maliketh :D ). So if you find yourself doing worse, just go and take a nap or fresh air.
I can't believe we're at the end game now. All the struggle will be over. Let it all in, I say. Just one thing before the bosses, If you plan to play Dark Souls, Play Darksouls Remastered, Skip DS2, then start DS3. This will make the most narrative sense. With that out of the way, let's get the lore started. Gideon Offnir Who is Gideon Offnir? Gideon is tarnished just as you are. Just like you, Gideon also wants the Elden throne. To do so, he wishes to accumulate as much knowledge as possible and pays you unique spells if you give him information about certain bosses. This information will also allow Gideon to learn the boss's magic moves. Why is Gideon Fighting you? As Gideon was accumulating knowledge, he peered into the secret of Marika. Gideon has no ill intention against you, but whatever secret he learned compelled him to stop you from becoming Elden Lord. We have no idea what this secret is, DLC? Godfrey First Elden Lord. Godfrey is the poster boy of the game. Unlike the other bosses in-game, Godfrey is just a human, not a god or demigod. When Queen Marika rose to power, Godfrey's raw strength was enough to make her fall in love. However, Godfrey was a vicious warrior with no chill, unfit for a noble title. Godfrey then took on the Regent Serogth, a Beastial magic that held his blood lust. Together, they would rage war against the Giants, the Storm ruler, and anyone who opposed the Golden Order. After some time, he and his Crucible knights were stipped from their Grace and Banished from the Lands between, becoming the first Tarnished. While Godfrey Claims to be the first Elden Lord, technically, he is not. The Elden Ring is a universal constant. It is the rule book of how the world of the Lands between should operate. Before the Erdtree came and before the Golden order, there was a time ruled by Dragons. Dragon Lord Placidusax is the first Elden Lord(that we know of). After you burned the Erdtree down, Godfrey returns to the Capitol to earn what is rightfully his. His right as the Elden Lord. When he returns, he sees his son, Morgott's body. Despite his Omen nature, Godfrey still loved his cursed sons. Godfrey gives him his absolute rights and sends him off. A touching father and son moment. Take a closer look at his introduction cut scene. Morgott's body returns to the Erdtree and becomes the beacon of light, the same light that would guide you at Sights of Grace. The light is the visible manifestation of god showing the Tarnished to help them in their goal. God does not care who comes on top. All they want is only one of you to come out alive. Godfrey has no ill intentions against you. He fully respects your skill and strength to make it this far and fights nobly in his first phase. At half health, Godfrey's rage becomes uncontrollable; he realizes he can't beat you by fighting nobly. Serogth takes notice and physically manifests himself to start a gank boss fight. Still, Chad Godfrey stops it midway and tears his berserker limitter off his body, becoming his blood-lusting barbaric warrior Horoux Loux. Some things to note here. First off, Serogth was not just a lion on his back. It's implied that Serogth was also responsible for his armor and weapon. All this time, he wore a loin cloth, ragged boots and fought with his bare fists. This chad was so strong that he only needed an illusion of armor and a weapon to fight the strongest warriors in existence. Second, as I said, there is nothing special about Godrey's abilities. He is not a mage, nor is he a godlike character. He is 100% full natural muscle 99 strength build. Finally, Ripping Serogth off is likely a one-time thing. This implies that nothing in the past gave Godfrey so much trouble as we did. He recognizes and respects our strength and abilities and goes full out in the fight. Most fromsoft bosses are old husks of what great being used to be. We rarely get to fight those in their prime. Not Godfrey, though; he will rip and tear with all his might. Warning, boss love letter ahead. One major issue with previous soul bosses was conveying speed and strength mechanically fairly. If you want a boss to have a fast and robust charge attack, the typical move is to make the charge time longer than usual. This makes the move that much avoidable and uninteresting. Godfrey fixes this with this leap/grab attack. It uses the fundamentals of stretch and squishes animation to emphasize his speed and power while making a move telegraphed and mechanically fair. His standard attacks, too, are polished to perfection. He has no gimmicks or tricks up his sleeve to one-shot you-just a fair and square one on one brawl to the death. His attacks are telegraphed, and the fight's tempo is consistent. Godfrey is peak Fromsoftware Boss design and deserves to stand alongside the most fantastic bosses in Souls Borne History.

Good job man. You really hung in there without using a summons. Godfrey is WAY easier with a summons to distract him. Little bit of lore: Godfrey fought for Marika against the fire giants and just generally. (Not sure about what wars specifically) anyway, that lion on his back was there to weaken him and hold back his rage. He was literally such a badass, he had to have a lion on his back. If you rewatch your footage, you can see the lion is actually biting him. That's why before he rips it off to go ape on your ass, he thanks him for his service. The service of managing his crazy bloodlust.
I can't believe you had so much trouble with him. I didn't think this guy was that bad. I guess not summoning is a big deal in this fight. I suspect you won't like what's coming.
Once you get the timing on his stomps and when he blitz you, the fight gets way easier but still a problem. Took me 4 tries to beat him. I put Rivers of Blood away so I could enjoy a fight with that CHAD

Godfrey was my favorite boss fight in Elden Ring, despite him serving jail time for animal abuse. His phase 2 fight is the closest thing to fighting Marvel's Hulk. It was so much fun! I just started "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice". I'm hoping the votes tally for you to play that game next. It's dope! The Final Boss in Elden Ring was disappointing, in my opinion. This was my experience too. I immediately ran at him. Hit him with a jump attack, gave him the bloodhound fang combo, and one more jump attack. He died and his audio was still playing lol. I was waaaaay over leveled for him.

Congrats as always. IMO Godfrey awards aggression. I tried to stay on top of him constantly, only getting out of the way for the ground explosion attacks. You've done great though, no mimics, slightly underlevelled and still kicking ass. Can't wait to see the "final" episode.

Man I just realize that out of all the ER videos I watched (my own progress is slow) this is the first time I hear the full Gideon conversation and his death dialogue LOL, every other youtuber just started smacking him before he even finishes the 1st sentence and poise break him to death. I didn't even know he can do so much magic!!!! Absolute respect for letting the man do what he does!!! Now he is a lot more fun than I thought! I think maybe improving his poise and AI mechanics (he is the all knowing!) with more clever spell combo could really make him one of the most in-depth and interesting (and annoying) Boss in the game. It's a bit of a shame that they missed this opportunity. It would be really cool if the All-Knowing could out smart players at least in the 1st run.

Hoarah Loux was the first Tarnished mentioned in the intro, along with Fia (huggin' lady), Gold Mask, Dung Eater and Gideon. He was "Chieftain of the Badlands" and was chosen by Queen Marika to be her consort and became the first Elden Lord. Serosh (the lion) was put on his back to try and calm his barbaric tendencies by burrowing it's claws and teeth into his flesh in order to keep the savage at bay. This was done by the Two Fingers and all the Empyreans (those elevated and favored by the Greater Will to gain great powers and rule the Golden Order) have had these animal "servants" tending to them. Maliketh was Marikas own servant and Ranni got Blaidd. Hoarah Loux reverted back from Godfrey the First Elden Lord by ripping off Serosh in order to gain back all his WWE moves.
He is also father to Godwyn the Golden, Godrick the Grafted, Mohg and Morgott/Margit which would suggest that his offspring wasn't cutting it according to the Golden Order and the Greater Will (Mohg and Morgott were filthy omens, mutated freaks tossed into the sewers of Leyndell and Godrick became completely mad and started heavy grafting experiments to make up for his inadequacies) and the only real heir, Godwyn, was murdered with Destined Death on the Night of the Black Knives which was believed to be orchestrated by non other than Ranni who sacrificed her own flesh and body in order to overthrow the Golden Order and defy the rule of the Greater Will since she has her own agenda of instilling a new order governed by the night and moon.
Half of this stuff is impossible to pick up on if you don't read every item description and still much is left up for interpretation and speculation by the community. I have my own theories to what is really going on in Elden Ring, what the Erdtree really is and what the Greater Will and the Two Fingers are really doing under the guise of a "Golden Order", but I will save that for my comment on the final video so as to not spoil anything :D

@@matiasgago I do understand that people get frustrated with having so much obscured and vague in the story but I and many others love this. The story becomes it's own game, a puzzle that lasts even longer than the time you spend in-game and it makes the game so much bigger and more grand in the end. It is like reading a book and having your own mind conjure up this immense thing rather than a visually spectacular movie that lays it all out. I like both things and sometimes the movie is better than any book, but sometimes the mind and interpretation is grander than the sum of all parts and all the Souls games do this so well and gives you the opportunity to experience and make the story your own.

My PCs were chasing after a Lich and reporting all their findings on said Lich's secret necromancy tomes to a leader-figure NPC. But secretly the leader was learning the Lich's craft, after they "defeated" the Lich, leader showed up spamming every spell the PCs found for him LOL

-Definitely get as much holy dmg negation as you can, haligdrake talisman, holy dried beef, etc.
2) Consider respeccing just enough into faith to use the black flame fireball incantation (it tracks them slightly and does dmg over time) or put the black flame tornado AoW you got from beating godskin duo onto a weapon. Black flame is clutch for the final fight
“Sir Gideon Ofnir Stalks you” is a video that gives some cool insight on his mini boss battle
Sorry to seem to be giving advice all the time haha. Just thought you should know its much more efficient to have all your levels put into one of your damage stats rather than 2 (eg for bloodhound fang, it has better dex scaling. So 99 dex is better than 50 dex 50 str) if that makes any sense. This is also good advice for bloodborne, dark souls etc.

It’s been a wild one brotha!
The next boss is going to be hard so a few friendly tips. You don't have to complete a boss in one sitting. The brain has only so much stamina and there is no shame in giving up for the day. It is a well known fact that brain organizes information while sleeping. So many times I had to give up for the day, sleep and then come back next day to beat in boss in first or second attempt (Maliketh :D ). So if you find yourself doing worse, just go and take a nap or fresh air.

Just one thing before the bosses, If you plan to play Dark Souls, Play Darksouls Remastered, Skip DS2, then start DS3. This will make the most narrative sense.
With that out of the way, let's get the lore started.
Gideon Offnir
Who is Gideon Offnir?
Gideon is tarnished just as you are. Just like you, Gideon also wants the Elden throne. To do so, he wishes to accumulate as much knowledge as possible and pays you unique spells if you give him information about certain bosses. This information will also allow Gideon to learn the boss's magic moves.
Why is Gideon Fighting you?
As Gideon was accumulating knowledge, he peered into the secret of Marika. Gideon has no ill intention against you, but whatever secret he learned compelled him to stop you from becoming Elden Lord.
We have no idea what this secret is, DLC?
Godfrey First Elden Lord.
Godfrey is the poster boy of the game. Unlike the other bosses in-game, Godfrey is just a human, not a god or demigod. When Queen Marika rose to power, Godfrey's raw strength was enough to make her fall in love. However, Godfrey was a vicious warrior with no chill, unfit for a noble title. Godfrey then took on the Regent Serogth, a Beastial magic that held his blood lust. Together, they would rage war against the Giants, the Storm ruler, and anyone who opposed the Golden Order. After some time, he and his Crucible knights were stipped from their Grace and Banished from the Lands between, becoming the first Tarnished.
While Godfrey Claims to be the first Elden Lord, technically, he is not. The Elden Ring is a universal constant. It is the rule book of how the world of the Lands between should operate. Before the Erdtree came and before the Golden order, there was a time ruled by Dragons. Dragon Lord Placidusax is the first Elden Lord(that we know of).
After you burned the Erdtree down, Godfrey returns to the Capitol to earn what is rightfully his. His right as the Elden Lord.
When he returns, he sees his son, Morgott's body. Despite his Omen nature, Godfrey still loved his cursed sons. Godfrey gives him his absolute rights and sends him off. A touching father and son moment. Take a closer look at his introduction cut scene. Morgott's body returns to the Erdtree and becomes the beacon of light, the same light that would guide you at Sights of Grace. The light is the visible manifestation of god showing the Tarnished to help them in their goal. God does not care who comes on top. All they want is only one of you to come out alive.
Godfrey has no ill intentions against you. He fully respects your skill and strength to make it this far and fights nobly in his first phase.
At half health, Godfrey's rage becomes uncontrollable; he realizes he can't beat you by fighting nobly. Serogth takes notice and physically manifests himself to start a gank boss fight. Still, Chad Godfrey stops it midway and tears his berserker limitter off his body, becoming his blood-lusting barbaric warrior Horoux Loux.
Some things to note here.
First off, Serogth was not just a lion on his back. It's implied that Serogth was also responsible for his armor and weapon. All this time, he wore a loin cloth, ragged boots and fought with his bare fists. This chad was so strong that he only needed an illusion of armor and a weapon to fight the strongest warriors in existence.
Second, as I said, there is nothing special about Godrey's abilities. He is not a mage, nor is he a godlike character. He is 100% full natural muscle 99 strength build.
Finally, Ripping Serogth off is likely a one-time thing. This implies that nothing in the past gave Godfrey so much trouble as we did. He recognizes and respects our strength and abilities and goes full out in the fight. Most fromsoft bosses are old husks of what great being used to be. We rarely get to fight those in their prime. Not Godfrey, though; he will rip and tear with all his might.
Warning, boss love letter ahead.
One major issue with previous soul bosses was conveying speed and strength mechanically fairly. If you want a boss to have a fast and robust charge attack, the typical move is to make the charge time longer than usual. This makes the move that much avoidable and uninteresting.
Godfrey fixes this with this leap/grab attack. It uses the fundamentals of stretch and squishes animation to emphasize his speed and power while making a move telegraphed and mechanically fair.
His standard attacks, too, are polished to perfection. He has no gimmicks or tricks up his sleeve to one-shot you-just a fair and square one on one brawl to the death. His attacks are telegraphed, and the fight's tempo is consistent.
Godfrey is peak Fromsoftware Boss design and deserves to stand alongside the most fantastic bosses in Souls Borne History.

Little bit of lore: Godfrey fought for Marika against the fire giants and just generally. (Not sure about what wars specifically) anyway, that lion on his back was there to weaken him and hold back his rage. He was literally such a badass, he had to have a lion on his back. If you rewatch your footage, you can see the lion is actually biting him. That's why before he rips it off to go ape on your ass, he thanks him for his service. The service of managing his crazy bloodlust.

Once you get the timing on his stomps and when he blitz you, the fight gets way easier but still a problem. Took me 4 tries to beat him. I put Rivers of Blood away so I could enjoy a fight with that CHAD
