    One thing I always do that customers really appreciate: When it’s hot out, this especially applies. I alway bag all cold and frozen items together (this may be a no-brainer, I realize). However, when I leave the bags at the customer’s doorstep, I always locate the frozen and refrigerated items, and place them apart from all other bags, in front, closest to the customer’s front door. This allows the customer to get them into the freezer/fridge right away, without searching for them amongst a dozen paper bags. It’s the little things that maintain a 5* rating.

    Hi I’m a customer and I just wanted to thank all you shoppers! I always tip well over 20% because I appreciate your time! Although I understand not every customer can do that. Personally I agree with the no produce bags, I recycle all plastic bags at the grocery store and I wash my produce so I’m not afraid of bagless. Also I usually accept replacements but I’m highly lactose intolerant so I do appreciate when shoppers take the time to get a replacement that works for me. Thanks again!

      I'm a vendor and most customers have no idea we even exist. Constantly mistaking us for store employees and taking their sweet time while shopping, always blocking the aisles but that's to be expected. Now we have to deal with shoppers from outside companies in addition to order pickup and delivery store-employee shoppers constantly blocking the aisles up leaving their carts in the way when we are trying to merch shelves with u-boats or 2 wheelers. Just be considerate is what I'm saying.

    I was a shopper support agent, great to see the actual shopping process. When you wait 10 minutes we give a wait time bump of $5, 20 minutes $10 extra. Also, some customers are very picky so pay attention to the type of replacement, whether default, no replacement or specific. They complain about that a lot.

    It helps when you know the layout of a store. Nothing slows you down more than having to hunt down an item in some random spot in a store.
    And nothing frustrates me more than a customer who doesn't respond to messages, replacements or refunds; then proceeds to get mad when you picked the wrong replacement or refunded when they wanted another type.

    For #1 & 12...I am just finishing my first week and I really needed to hear this. I was sent a double shipping order for Aldi's and I am not familiar with Aldi's aisle style. When my 'time' turned red, my heart sank. I finished the order, but, on the way to the first drop off, the apartment was tricky to find. Both customers were SUPER understanding! Still, in the car on the way for drop off, I teared up...felt like I was a failure (which is SO unlike me!) and just wanted to cry. 😢 It only lasted for a moment, but, still. Hearing someone say, "Don't worry about the time..." makes all the difference in the world for me. Thank you for a great "tips" video. By the way, that slow-motioned walk, while putting your sunglasses on, from the cart corral....toooooo cool! 😎 God bless you in health and all prosperity.❤️

    I am a customer, not a shopper. I appreciated seeing this side of things because I have often wondered. I think Instacart should provide you high-quality cooler bags for free because it reflects on the company also. I recently received an order of frozen fruit that had been out so long it was squishy and mushy. The poor shopper was so frazzled I didn’t worry about it but I noticed he did not have cooler bags and I wondered why not. No I know he will have to get some himself. I do have a tip, however: make sure you get the right order! LOL this guy with the mushy frozen fruit at first brought the wrong order to my house. LOL I laugh, but I realize for him it may not be a laughing matter.

      I really appreciate your customer’s point of view. Being a new Instacart shopper I can say that for me shopping for customers is like shopping for myself. I’m unhappy when I can’t find the desired item or it’s good replacement. Not mention my worries when smth goes wrong with payment card… I always get the freshest products and separate the frozen and cold items from others. I’m shopping with cooling bag all the time and get frozen items just before the checkout. In the car I have xxl cooler bag with the containers with frozen liquid, it helps to keep the temperature of the refrigerated or frozen products). Maybe I’m not as fast as the shopper in the video, but I hope my customers are quite happy with my service. And my point is: you have to do your work well, so the other person will be okay with the service you provide to. But it’s good to communicate as well. I never thought that some people don’t want the produce bags. It takes a great amount of time to wrap all produce in them, and it seems sometimes it doesn’t worth it 😊

I always go to the produce section first and get all those items because most of the other items are on the other side of the store so you don’t have to keep walking back and forth. Also, customers always appreciate good communication, it helps with a better tip and good rating. Lastly, at checkout when unloading the cart I always put all the cold stuff together, produce together and light stuff together and save eggs and bread for last which makes it easier for the bagger.

    I always select a second preference for every item I put in my cart, so I am sure to get what I want instead of what the shopper selects, which may not be what I want. As a customer, my tip would be to use a little subtle reinforcement with your customers to encourage them to use the specific instructions for each item to anticipate and answer whatever questions the shopper might have such as "Pick green bananas, organic if you can, but regular is fine." I find it this to be the biggest thing I can do to help you, so you won't spend time guessing and won't need to take time to call me. It feels a bit like being a control freak though so if you find this helpful just let your customer know "Hey those notes on the bananas were great, I love when my customers give me detailed instructions for their items!"

    Great Tips! Another tip of mine, don’t be afraid to go to a different location than the one suggested for full service orders. In the 6 months I’ve worked for Instacart, I’ve had several instances where it’s told me to go to, for instance, a Wegmans 20 minutes away, when I’m actually right next to another Wegmans. In general, all locations of the same franchise will carry the exact same items and although they may have a slightly different layout, going to the location closest to you will almost always save you time and you should have no problem finding all the customer’s items.

    1) Invest in a Batter Pack phone case and utilize Low Power Mode on your phone, even if you turn the node on at 98%, your phone will always be likely to die SUPER slow, saving you a lot of juice, and sparing you a headache! 2)Get all of your cold items (juice, milk, seafood, meats, ice cream,) LAST! Walmart sells these bags that attach to the carts in a way that allows you to divide the cart if you have multiple batches. Ive found that putting the bag in the middle of the cart gives you the ability to break the cart into 3 sections for 3 different customer orders. This makes taking multiple orders much easier and prevents any confusion. I also recommend a divider in your trunk (or back seat) to put each order in it’s own spot. Again, helps prevent confusion.

Keep in mind the good instacart is doing for those old folks, handicaps, stay home moms etc who don't have the time to hit the grocery stores. Instacart isnt perfect and so is anything other company. Be greatful for an opportunity to make a couple of bucks when they are available to you. My girl friend and I have been doing instacart late january of 2019 to present. 20 to 35 hrs a week, bringing home between 300 to 600 every wednesday. We both have full time jobs and are parents to 2 boys and we noticed the issue you guys complain about so we just stay home and if a batch comes while at home, we head out. If not, then oh well. Go about your day and plan accordingly that you might receive a batch because you are on the clock that you picked up. Instacart i dont think is designed to be main income stream. This is so important when you shop at Costco. Also, if you notice too many people in line with big orders at Costco call a supervisor and ask for assistance to help them unload their items. The cashier is supposed to do this and for whatever reason doesn't. The floor supervisor will always appreciate being alerted about stuff like this.
      I also want to add - be polite and courteous. Always ask nicely and in a professional manner. It gets very frustrating dealing with staff members who have an attitude or just don't care about their customers. Another valuable tip is something that I practice right now is you want to make your groceries as easiest possible going in and out of your car quickly and without wasting time doing Tetris.
    My solution to this is I got what is called an elastic tarp strap with a dozen hooks that come with it and filed all of them for soft edges and now it holds stretched against my driver seat across to the passenger seat. This has made securing bags quickly and easily whether it's plastic or paper loops.
    My car's trunk also has a space for additional straps to do the same thing and I've been considering putting it back there for now on or use both for big orders. Outside of club stores and other large item stores, this provides most of my solutions.
    Easy to put together, just need a few tie downs of green ties from the produce section for friction and interlock the hooks between two green ties, give each one plenty of space, and you're ready to go. Doing multiple orders is much easier now

Most of the time they will say "oh yeah i forgot!" or "oh yeah im running late just leave it at the door" BUT I have had accidental duplicate orders and orders placed on the wrong day. In these cases I have either returned items the next time I am at the store or kept them if not returnable. (The few minutes spent waiting typically increases customer satisfaction either way). Second, I always get produce bags. It saves time at the register (cashiers don't have to round up 6 apples rolling around to place them on the scale. As a soon to be new full service shopper (my card is in transit), I will be as efficient as possible with accuracy as my no.1 goal. Yes the cash flow and flexibility is the main reason for doing this but if I don’t treat this opportunity as if I were the client from both sides, then it seems to be no different than being a robot at a 9-5 kind of job.
    1. Accuracy
    2. Proficiency
    3. Professionalism

    My first day is tomorrow! 2nd vid I've seen and both were very helpful, thank you! One thing I did was try to get familiar with store layouts beforehand because I always shop at one store. I went in took pics of aisles for things that might be "hard to find".

    if you live in small area, get a printed layout of the store that will list most of the main staple items. or if you carry a tablet do a layout on there. in days when your just walking around take note of new item locations and just add as you go. this is also helpful if store change item locations alot

    I only use apple maps for delivery. Apple maps will show you the outline of each house on the street so that way I can count the number of homes instead of looking for an address, I STILL confirm the address to make sure I’m at correct house. Example, on the apple map I can see the customers home is the 6th home from the start of the street. Much quicker than looking for addresses

      Google maps will also show this but you have to click on it before you launch into the GPS route.

    Your video was very helpful. I just didn't want to do it because it took me an hour to shop and deliver to people and some of those trips were 9 dollars, 9 dollars an hour is horrible..Most of these people live in apartments, hard to find units, highrises that require access codes etc...just a nightmare.

    Good vid. Another tip would be that as you locate your next aisle take note of the ounce size, item specifics and go ahead and open the app to the camera as you walk so that you know exactly what youre looking for and you can scan as soon as you find it. That may seem like common sense but when I first started I'd wait until I found the product to open up to the camera. Taking a mental note and having the camera ready really helped me get through faster.

    I go through and shop the items on smaller orders and introduce myself to my customers (using a message copied to my clipboard), including making replacements, BEFORE swiping to start shopping, and then scan all the items at once. I chopped THIRTY minutes off the first order I did that on and my pick time went WAY down. Be safe out there!

    • @annelorenzray8108
      @annelorenzray8108 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent strategy! That's how it's done, this is key to moving faster and lowering your time. Less complex if you have a single order batch. However, if you grab another cart, move out of the way of customers, you can scan and sort. I don't really do this now after 3 years of experience but this actually works and it helped me learn the store layout, as well as, increase my productivity and accuracy. If it's 15 - 20 items, or even as many as 40 items, I grab everything first, then scan them all at once.

    Some of this stuff is very helpful.. thanks.. also I’m only 3days in and have made quite a bit of $ . I’m out of work do to all the shutdowns too. Anyone who sees my comment please don’t get frustrated his tips were before all this Coronavirus craziness and stores are out of every item some customers order. Just be patient and do your best. Use common sense as if you were going to the store for your picky mom or granny 😂.. (not yourself) it makes it easier... happy shopping 👊🏾

      @To the point. you must have had a really bad experience..I am kind to the grocery store employees on the few times I’ve asked for help. I do feel weird asking them for help when I’m working though and I’m sure not everyone is nice to them. All the employees I have encountered have been amazingly kind and helpful and I have appreciated it so much. This is like my second week doing Instacart and I usually have my 9 year old and two month old with me so it’s a bit rough for me.

      That is the downside of instacart, then they can rate you bad after that when an item they wanted wasn't in the store.

    • @ChimereASmith
      @ChimereASmith 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KVStarStruck22 omg yes, I have also had customers rate me bad on missing or replaced items after I had a whole conversation with them about a requested item either not being in stock or not having enough to fulfill the quantity they are requesting. They either state they want a replacement or its ok if they dont get the 10 bottles of water and settle for the 5 on the shelf. Only to turn around and give me a thumbs down stating missing items or wrong item picked when its what they told me they wanted in the text conversation. So moving forward I will make sure to take screenshots of the convos and provide them to instacart to dispute the thumbs down reviews when warranted.

    I work for Instacart as a service Representative and you are not allowed to drop bags off unless properly instructed to first by the customer. We highly don’t recommend just leaving the groceries because if it goes over 30 minutes and the customers don’t know that their groceries are outside depending on the food items that can be hazardous. We submit all of our shoppers who do this to headquarters when a customer calls in about it just an FYI. It is within your job description to wait the 10 minutes if you choose not to that’s work avoidance because it’s listed within the job description and shoppers will be held accountable there is a specific process to follow for missing customers. We receive calls from upset customers all the time because their groceries were left without being instructed. Another reason not to do this is if you are at the wrong location and you’re unaware you then are leaving groceries at someone else’s house it happens all too often.
