    Thank you so much for this video. I am brand new to instacart, I haven't even done my first order yet and this video answered every question I had about how it works. If instacart sees this video they should strongly consider adding it to their training list for new shoppers.

    Wow, I do IC outside of Tampa and rarely ever see orders above $50 unless they are huge Costco orders, you’re very fortunate. An amazing day for me is $100 for 6-8 hours. I have a special needs child, so this works perfectly me and my schedule. My best tip is use the freezer packs that come with meal delivery orders. I use a hard cooler and some soft sided cooler bags, those freezer packs stay cold all day in the Florida heat.

    I started IC in Tampa area/Pinellas county. Rarely saw batches over 20 some dollars. It would take me 8-10 hours a day, 8 days a week to make $400 to $600. And I was Diamond level and getting priority access to orders. It is much better to accept smaller orders with least amount of distance. You can get more done and tend make more money. I only ever had a day over $100 maybe once a week and that was usually on a Sunday and I’d be out there for 10 hours…..working nonstop, no breaks. I had $150 day once and that was Thanksgiving week.

    I wish you had showed me how you kept the items separate for customers A, B, C. I also wanted to see how you kept the cold items cold and the hot items hot. You also didn't mention about buying bags. Do customers appreciate it if I use my own bags to save them money? I bought 4 of the approved bags for $30. I also signed up for large orders like a large heavy box that will fit in my hatchback. If you must leave the things at the door, I would think you would want to make sure you got pictures of all the items. If someone stole some items, you could prove that they were in the bags with the pictures. Just showing the bags in the picture won't prove that you delivered all of the items.

    I use to make $200 easily in 6 hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays last year. The highest I made this year was Easter, $81 in 8 hours. That’s way less than minimum wage. Take advantage if your city doesn’t have too many drivers yet, lots of ppl are going to lose their jobs in the next 5 years- lots of careers will end, unfortunately. Where do you think all those unfortunate people will turn too for work? Instacart, Uber, DoorDash, etc. Then your cities will be just like Los Angeles- where you’ll get 1 order every few hours

    I do IC in Pittsburgh. I have never seen a shop only.
    Micheals is the only store you can go to and not have to shop.
    Lowes is the only store where the items on the app shows which aisle its in. So if you are unfamiliar with the store, you have to go up and down each aisle to find items.
    And you have to stand in the deli line to place your order just like anyone else. Really slows you down.
    Lucky you get an aisle list and presliced deli.
    Never have been tipped over $20 for a run. The average here is like $6. I worked 7.5 hrs on Friday and my tips were still under
    $70. Doing runs in a rich community must really help.

The card would get declined and then you’d have to separate the items, and by this time you have likely gotten multiple orders mixed amongst one another. This would not only piss off the employee responsible for ringing you out. But then piss your customer off and yourself for the additional 30 minutes your about to spend at the register sorting through the orders item by item so that you can ring out properly lol. One order by one. Thats how you get it done.

    Thank you for sharing this! Would love your 2cents on a situation I just had happen.
    When working a large order for 3 I had a cashier combine my second and third order after failing to scan the barcode correctly. She was inexperienced and sent me over to customer service to have them correct everything. My first orders had already been paid for she decided to refund everything before rechecking my order. When we got to the payment method for the second time my payments were declined. Instacart support kept me on the line for almost an hour before eventually canceling the batch on me because I refused to pay out of pocket then request a reimbursement from them. That put me out nearly 2 hours with nothing to show for it.
    I'd love to know your experience when working with support. or best practices to watch for with new cashiers.

    As the average cost to operate a vehicle is currently $.58/mile some people are not taking this into account and often time actually loosing money by accepting low paying and long distance batches. It appears that the potential to actually make money as a shopper in 2023 is diminishing. As an example, $20.00 batch, 10 miles away= 20 mile round trip = $11.60. Yes your cost to actually drive your gas powered vehicle. Now there is actually $8.40 left. Next time you accept a batch do the math. Many newbees are accepting low paying batches, which tells the company it's ok to put low paying batches out there. They are targeting the newbees and ruining the potential for everyone.

    • @rdoran2836
      @rdoran2836 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not only that, Instacart is now routinely grouping 3 orders in one batch and still paying ridiculous amounts for the order. I never take 3 order batches myself (I respect others that choose to do so) but you made an excellent point about the newbies ruining it for everyone else. I've seen 3 order batches being separated into 2 (and even single orders) if no one takes them within a period of time. They do prey on new people who think they have to take the first batch that comes up. With time, I have become very selective on the batches I take. Just take your time and don't get too anxious. Sometimes it's better to wait a little longer than taking a 3-order for $ 20 that would take a lot of your time and effort.

    So I just started instacart and the issue im having is, it doesn’t show me the full mileage to go to the supermarket and then to the persons home . Like for example the other day I had a $20 delivery for 2 stops, and the supermarket was 30 mins away ! And they the two persons homes were about 10-15 mins away from the supermarket and one of them didn’t even leave a tip! And they were both large orders. I was SOOOO pissed off. A complete waste of gas money

  • @jessicushlarush
    @jessicushlarush 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In California it always averages out to $25 an hour but only the hours work not including what times. If you include the whole time you shop and wait then the hourly rate averages at $20. They have this down to a science now. From that you still have to pay your own taxes, gas, and have no unemployment insurance or benefits. That’s a side hustle 😂

    This is a very comprehensive video, thank you. I still have questions though. How does Instacart make their money if the shoppers gets paid for the order (plus tips). If the order if $60 say, and the shopper is paid $60 dollars, how does that work? Where is their profit? What about bags? With no more plastic bags available, how are the groceries packaged? And the insulated cold bags, do they get left at the customer's residence? Is mileage covered by Instacart? I'm looking into doing this myself (I live in Canada), but can't find videos that explain how this works. TIA :)

    • @alittlepieceofearth
      @alittlepieceofearth 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      In my area, the customer gets charged $10 flat rate. The shopper gets paid $7 (plus any tip the customer adds). So, there is $3.00 right off the top. Then if you accept a second order to shop along with your original order (i.e. a double order) Instacart does not pay you an additional $7, just any tip that the customer offered (although, the customer definitely paid that $10 flat fee). So, there is another $10. That is just the shopping fee. On top of that, they add a little extra to the price of each item. It has been a while since I did Instacart, so things may have changed since then. But that's what it was when I was doing it last.

      That's darn right me neither and they only paid good then because of the pandemic and shoppers were needed everywhere which is when they hired too many so now we get low paying orders. Everytime I see another shopper I ask them what they get per batch and it's always way higher and everyone be at 5.00 rating and mine is at 4.7 like all the time and I haven't changed nothing about how I do an order. It makes no sense at allllllll

    Is that how people complete the 2 or 3 people order, they shop and then drop off and go back to the store... I was just gonna shop and then leave it in the car and shop again..

    I really appreciate your video! Very detailed and exactly what I was looking for. My only question though, did you use cold bags for the frozen items and do you tell the cashier what you want in what bags? One last question, what did you scan the QR code for at the register? Thank you.

    • @porshab7320
      @porshab7320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tony, I hate to just jump in here like this but just wanted to help out a little. To answer your questions, the QR code is required at some stores. It's like a membership/savings account for the customer. Its already setup for the customer so when you go to check out it might say scan code after 1st item. Also not sure how it works in other places but generally you don't have a say so on what goes in what bag. Now once you get familiar with a store and the cashiers you might build a bond where they allow you to have say so. It's good to use cooler bags. I'm not going to say it's a necessity.

      @@porshab7320 Hey thanks for jumping in and explaining! I guess the bagging part was a silly question lol. I haven't gotten any cold/hot bags yet, but I guess I could arrange them myself once done with check-out. Thank you so much for explaining!

      @@porshab7320 Hate to bother you again with another question. I accepted an order not realizing that it was 2 customers orders at the same time and it was like 45 items total. I was thinking how in the heck am I going to keep those orders separate in a shopping cart! On top of that, it said that 1 of the customers didn't order through Instacart so I had to go through a different process for them to pay. It only being like my 5th order ever, I freaked out and cancelled it :(. Any suggestions on doing double orders and how someone not ordering through Instacart works. Thanks!

    • @porshab7320
      @porshab7320 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ok so as far as keeping orders separate. For me it depends on the size of the order. I try not to do too many 3 orders batches. But for a 2 order what I do is use the top portion as Customer A and the larger bottom of cart for Customer B. Let's say each customer has 20 items a piece. I'll grab one of those hand baskets. Have the top and hand basket be 1. Then the rest for the other customer. But I promise once you get going you will find you a routine. Try to stick to stores you know. That helps.

      As someone that uses Instacart from time to time, I ABSOLUTELY pay attention to the weight. I have a food scale at home and you better believe I use it. Even if you're just a little bit off you're still either cheating the customer or the store. Not good advise to give anyone especially if they are new to this as you could potentially get them banned from being a shopper. I'm very glad I've never had a shopper that thinks like you.

      When I signed up a couple years ago, it was once you were approved to shop (background check complete, etc). We were able to use ApplePay right away, but did need to wait on the physical card to shop at certain stores. Hopefully someone who has signed up more recently can respond if anything has changed? And how long the cards are currently taking to arrive? I am curious as well. We did have plenty of time to complete the 30 batches - especially if you take really small orders that can be completed quickly.

      @@raisingwildflowers I’m a new instacart shopper. A little insight on how long it takes to receive your physical card, for my card it was almost a month. You can shop without it using mobile pay but with restrictions on batches they will offer you. Wed. the 29th 2023 was my first day. I waited till I got physical card to start shopping/delivering orders. If you take the orders and you meet the deadlines more will be offered to you the next day. You’ll also get group batching where you can shop and deliver for multiple customers at the same time
