There are things that can help that even a Sunday league manager can see
Southgate can't admit he's got his teams wrong. Trippier gets injured he puts saka at left back which a lot of people asked him to do before the game though i didnt agree with it. Puts in Palmer with the game almost finished. Gordon doesnt get a sniff. Southgate is lucky rather than good. The luck cant last forever. But fair play to the team. They got through. Just.
You know very little surprised me about southgate until the decision to play Sakha at left back when he was on the verge of losing the game. Personally Sakha wouldn't make my team in the first place.... 9.5/10 times management like that is not suited to this level...names the wrong players he's taking to Germany, plays people out of position, announces his tactics to the opposition days in advance, refuses to mix and match it
needs to stop putting square pegs in round holes, and stop playing people out of position, Foden and Trippier on the left don't work
Palmer came on at 66 minutes... Gordon isn't tested at Intenational level like Foden has been he's played a few friendlies. You are just talking random subs and gambling and hope not tactics!

But we actually played well in many matches then and again in Euros and Qatar. How do you explain how badly we've played these last 4 matches? My only explanation is that Southgate has selected a squad this time round that he cannot balance - with his defensive mindset he simply isn't able to deal with his luxury of attacking options, and so players are out of position, lose motivation, etc.

Yes, although I can’t really remember now who else was in the frame for the England job back in 2016, he had extensive club management experience under his belt but can’t really get my head round today that he was the very best candidate. He did at least last longer than Liz Truss did as PM, by about 22 days. If Southgate does call it a day and the FA want to select another English manager, the names aren’t exactly springing out. Some I’ve heard suggested today are Graham Potter or Eddie Howe. Doesn’t fill me with much confidence that the FA will find a suitable home grown fit if Southgate does leave.

Didn't breeze anything. Bellingham goal had nothing to do with 2 strikers and then the next goal came immediately too and then england got battered and should have conceded.

Allardyce has definitely had a few Sambucas.
England will not make it too far playing with this current starting lineup. They need players like Eze, Ivan T. And more wing play to win it. The current midfield they have do not complement Harry Kane style of play. Thats why they have problems scoring. Leaving Rashford, sterling, and sancho out of this team is shocking. The midfield play for the current setup is dull
I said the same Toney and eze discredited mostly it's a joke he played eze as a wing back throughout extra time and he covered his tracks very well for trippier and saka and read the play runs very easily and kept the Slovaks out.

Allardyce should be more ashamed than Southgate... that was terrible analysis , not a clue what he's going on about
England have good players, what they lack is an identifiable system and the patterns of play that come with picking the same players, drilling routines, and getting some team chemistry.
At the end of the day all Southgate can do is pick the most players in their best positions and hope for the best. Clearly any coherent plan went out the window when he selected a bunch of players with almost no caps.
You need the first team and the under levels playing a system and then that way there's at least some cohesion when new guys get called up to tournaments and it's not all brand new.
This group of England players, save maybe Kane, Walker, Trippier and Stones, will be a force in 2 years time if they can get in a manager to pick consistent squads and play to England's key players strengths.
Can't be afraid to rest some stars that are jaded, play the guys fit in form and ready to do their jobs. You see the difference when else mainoo Gordon and Palmer made when they did their cameos. Give them some minutes and they will produce. The premier league and champions League is harder than facing Slovakia, come on now..show these young stars some faith.
Today though, I think Toney coming on gave Kane/Bellingham some freedom and Toney's power and skill created room for the other guys to get on the ball more. Maybe build on that next game.

The Full backs are the issue. They spend most the game not passing down the wing or in to midfield and 85% of the game reject passes that are on and instead pass back inside to centre backs. It slows the game down so much and leaves us not creating anything and just passing side to side

Four defenders is not enough. As a humble English man I recognize that we are the plucky underdogs and we need more. I say take off every technical attacking player for more defensive players. No five defenders is not enough. As a humble English man I recognize that we are the plucky underdogs and we need more. I say take off every technical attacking player for more defensive players.
