    It's a little odd that the trees have no 4D "thickness" and just pop into existence all at once.

    • @gweltazlemartret6760
      @gweltazlemartret6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว +131

      That's because they have a 3D placement inside one single plan in the fourth dimension(s). Let's make the 4thD a gradient line, if the tree is there in the plane "1", it's not there on the "2" plane. Smooth transitionning between planes (float values like '1.5') in the 4th D may have them appear and disappear smoothly.
      4DMiner uses a more subtle terrain generation that makes every plane having some "4D" coherence (where there's a tree in one of the plans, there's a tree or alike in the other plans, or some more granular transitionning). Don't think it's so much of a problem tho, this technical 1D-to-4D is impressive just by itself.

      @@gweltazlemartret6760 They still would look very weird to a 4D being, as the leaves don't go out from the trunk in one of the directions, but do in the others

    • @gweltazlemartret6760
      @gweltazlemartret6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@illegallynamed8575 yeah, but you try to reason in a 3D-to-4D way; It turns out, one of the 4D planes may contain a castle, some other plane a tree, some other an ocean, some other null...
      4DMiner is "wrong" as you can't predict for sure what's in another plane based on the current one, and it's actually barely more than a multi-chunk bloated on itself than a real multi-dimensional thing. (Same as multi-D spiders, harvesting a multi-D trunk or a multi-D leaf should harvest it on all the planes at once.)

    • @stevenroldan2179
      @stevenroldan2179 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Right… The trees in this version are 3D. They have length, width, and height but don’t really make use of the 4th dimensional component. (I guess technically they would have a magnitude of 1 in that dimension).
      Since the terrain is generated smoothly across all 4 dimensions, probably would make sense to have the trees make use of the 4th dimensional component too.
      Not sure if this is exactly how it should work, but in my mind, it would make sense for the trunk to only be in one slice (length and width are 1 block wide, so make the 4d component also 1) but then the leaves would reach out into the 4th dimension the same amount that they do into the other dimensions. If a jungle/dark oak tree with a 2x2 trunk was added, then the trunk would occupy two slices having a tree base of 2x2x2 and then the height.
      Haven’t played 4D Miner, from the videos it looks like it does a good job of building its objects using all 4 dimensions, not just populating slices with disjunct 3D objects. But also the perspective of that game is fundamentally different than this implementation since I think you can rotate your perspective (which would allow you to actually view the continuity of each dimension) whereas this one always orientates you the same way and just shifts the character through the slices one by one (only allowing you to see the continuity of the X and Z dimensions for any given slice)

This makes sense though, most games labeled 2D are not also labeled first person, because of the complicated and un-playable nature. It would be cool to see these examples in different perspectives.

Voilá, 4d walls.

    Actually, while you're at it, you might as well add
    - “discrete” 4D rotation (rotate XW by exactly 90°)
    - 4D view alignment, where you choose X, and Z, in the view to be either X and Z, Z and W, or W and X respectively.
    Very cool project, you've inspired me, I might code my own 3D-slice-of-4D-voxel-world myself someday too now.

    I think in 4D you should be able to fly, go up, down, nw, sw, ne, se. In simple terms move in any direction you like.

    What if there are half-dimensions, such as 2.5D where 3D entities traverse alonf a 2D plane, kind of like a 3D entity in a 4D space, but the 3D guy can see the edge of the world and can only move forward, backward, up and down and not freely, It looks like you're walking on a piece of paper but you can't fall through it. Think of it as a 2D platformer but all the characters are rendered in 3D as sprite pngs.

    You are moving through fixed amounts of worlds so your 4th dimension is actually snapped with increments of 1 and every increment is a 3D world. What would be better is to make an alternative view so you know exactly where you are in the 4th Dimension, but during transition, for example w = 0.6 you see 0.4 of the one 3D world and 0.6 of the other 3D world. That would make it intuitive to have at least 6 dimensions and possibly infinite. Infinite dimensions are easy once you do 6, but it's losing purpose. Long story short a 4D Minecraft world can have all your worlds into one.
