I was so pleased to see you in the comfort of the tent, with hot food on the go! Don’t beat yourself up, the weathers done that anyway. You can do it another day! Thanks for posting. Best wishes for the future. Lovely couple. xx
Thank you, appreciate your words. Even though we didn’t manage it this time we’ll be back! We get motivation from comments like yours which we appreciate massively.
that is never a fail - the wasdale mountain rescue would thank you that you had the sense to come down off the fells rather than they having to go up to get you - thank you both for sharing this with us- please stay safe and well
That’s true, we wouldn’t live with ourselves if we were the cause of a callout because our egos didn’t know when to call it a day. Only sensible choices in the mountains. Thanks for watching 😊
Thanks Mick, I think it was the right call too. Hate bailing but I think it could have been iffy going onto Leg 3 after seeing what Fairfield had in store for us. Will try again 👍
Yes, it was dire on Fairfield. That’s what made us decide to end the round. Visibility through the freezing fog was difficult and the winds really started to pick up. Another time!
Brave effort. That’s a lot of pack weight. Thanks for sharing. Great weather once again in the Lakes. That weather will sap your strength and inner belief. Next time 😂
good decision guys. saftey should always come first. you had the guts to go out and give it a go and i'm sure having seen your other videos that you have a complete round in you. good luck on the next attempt!
Thanks so much. On reflection I think we asked a lot of ourselves. That said, if you don’t push how do you know what you are or aren’t capable of?! Not our day…
Wow you guys are amazing, that's not a fail.! I wouldn't even manage to finish 1/3 of it :)Your sacrifice is outstanding, crossing that river just like a bog! As always awesome to watch your videos.Keep posting them.
Thank you. We shouldn’t have been surprised at the height of the river knowing how wet it’s been. It’s always a funny moment when you come to a river crossing. We once literally swam across a deep river only to reach the other side and it being the wrong way so had to swim back. Got a few laughs from people watching and wondering what we were doing! 😂
Oh my gosh, you guys are awesome. I wish we could see that fall on camera. Good effort! Well done. Your tent looks well equipped. When I saw your big running vests at the start of the video I knew you were going to do something epic. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I really enjoy your channel. I hope you both are doing fine after your falls.
Hi and thank you, we’re fine 😊 It’s a tough course at the best of times, never mind over Winter and to be fair it could have been far worse!! First time we’ve used this tent. Absolutely loved the few days we spent there 👍
You've now got 2 DNFs!! Just like me!! Hahahaha Hopefully Lee will get another one this year and we will all be matching! 🤣🤣🤣 Good to see you enjoyed the adventure at the end of the video. Next time. 👍😉
Haha, hard to take isn’t it. After the fact it leaves you wondering what if. Still, looking back I’m sure we’re all happy with our decision as it’s the head making it, not the heart. I can honestly see Lee flying around the Goat in December!
Thank you, it certainly wasn’t the best of conditions but just fell at the right time for us with a few days off. Oh well, if you don’t try you don’t know!
@@TrailRunningCouple completely agree I’m all for challenging your self, the weather is such a massive unknown and can change things so much, last weekend was beautiful and perfect to be out in the peak, I was brushing up on some nav (ahead of this years OMM) doing the Saddleworth 5 trigs after seeing you guys do it on here. A great route and some nice challenging nav bits.
We were only talking about the 5 Trigs a day or so ago and commenting on what a nice route it is. Tough but nice. We’ve not done the OMM, another one to look at I guess!
Amazing effort both of you. If i was there i would have waved goodbye and gone into the Oddfellows arms pub. Then shook my head and said the words 'mad' 😁. I have come to the conclusion that i flippin hate the cold wintery weather on the summits and its a big no for me. However i take my hat off and what you did was amazing. There cant be many people even attempt to do the round at this time of year. Thanks again for uploading that video. I loved it. My work is changing very soon and i should be able to get the time out to do the runs i have missed lately. Videos like this keeps me motivated and i cant wait to get going......especially when it bloody warms up 😁
As usual Andy, thank you very much. The weather really can and does change in a minute. Makes it very hard going when the wind is trying to push you back down the ascent you really want to be going up! Winter isn’t a popular time due to what would amount to a higher failure percentage. Hopefully your injuries are behind you and you’ll get back into it proper. Thanks again 👍
Not a failure, definitely. The weather was not on your side. The winds can be lethal. What an adventure though! I really enjoyed watching your journey, still beautiful footage. Love it that you guys started doing more talking during your videos and commentary at the end too explaining the situation. It makes it more lively.
Thank you again, we both appreciate you taking time to watch and comment. Yes, it was quite an adventure taking us into uncomfortable situations. Fortunately we seem to know when the time is right to call it a day! We’ll be back!
No shame in being beaten back by the weather, absolutely right decision, you guys will easily do the round under 24 hours in the right conditions, all the best TTT 😊
I don’t know about that but thank you. The weather made a big dent in us to be fair but it was the unknown going forward that prompted us to drop out. Who knows how bad it could have become. Appreciate the watch and comment as always 👍
Well done guys, no shame in calling it a day. I'm sure they'll be enough subscribers of yours willing to help with a summer attempt if you need a crew 😎
No Gary and Cheryl not epic fail was more like great effort getting to where we got to most people wouldn't have got anywhere near where you got to carrying there own gear and them conditions massive praise for what you two do bringing us best content on here
Thank you Martin. We knew we would be against it but time allowed us to have a crack. We certainly know when to bail before we end up putting not only our lives in danger but the lives of others. Really appreciate your comments 👍
I'm liking the inov8 x talon 255 v2 for long wet days on the fells... Loads of grip, loads of room and enough underneath to protect the feet, only downside is anything wet, hard and flat is dicey!
We have X Talon Ultra 260’s which are excellent but it was down to one shoe over potentially a big distance. Altra Olympus ended up being the choice though we cursed them on the grassy descents!
Never an easy decision to make, but a very sensible decision here. Sounds like you had every thing well set up but there's definitely no use in slogging through horrific weather to potentially put yourself in a lot of danger. My first attempt (in a few years time) will definitely be a summer one!
Thank you Jess. I think we had to make that decision as Leg 3 is a hard one at the best of time but in the dark and with freezing fog and winds would have made navigation a nightmare. Also, pace would have taken a massive hit bringing on the risk of getting extremely cold. Happy with our decision. We’ll definitely try again but maybe just as we did - the two of us unsupported. It’s not an easy way but it’s more about the overall journey and experience rather than the time for us. See you on Saturday. We looked at the GPX of the route and it looks pretty good!
This really was a crack on a few days notice. We just love being out in the mountains so the long days are pretty much usual for us. Also Lakeland 100 this year so need to get used to the even longer days! Thanks 😊
Pair of fell legends 👍 not a fail, sensible decisions based on your vast fell experience, you had the right kit, right experience, right sensible approach. Glad you cam off the fell👍 great debrief at the end, honest, truthful and practical 😊 Well done, great video showing how tough it was . Look forward to your next ones. Oh! And you make a great team 🙂🙂
Thank you. Poles are Leki Ultratrail FX One Superlite. It’s the first time we’ve used these particular poles and they’re excellent, especially with the Shark grip.
Thanks Glen. We opted for Altra Olympus 5’s. They’re great shoes for distance on trails but lack anything on wet grassy descents. Had we gone with a Mudclaw it would have been the opposite. Hard choice when there can only be one!!
30 miles in those conditions is not to be sniffed at… when you were wading through the river, that’s when I’d have called it a day. No shame in choosing discretion over valour, just good sense 🙂👍🏼🍻
Great effort guys! Don't blame you for bailing, the conditions looked atrocious. How did you get from Dunmail Raise back to Wasdale out of interest?! Anyway great going.
Thanks, it’s been better up there! We dropped down towards Grasmere from the foot of Fairfield where there’s a break in the wall, getting to the main road just in time to call a taxi. Luckily for us he answered and took us back to Keswick. Failing that, we were looking at another 17 miles, or a bivvi bag!
I was so pleased to see you in the comfort of the tent, with hot food on the go!
Don’t beat yourself up, the weathers done that anyway.
You can do it another day!
Thanks for posting. Best wishes for the future. Lovely couple. xx
Thank you so much, it’s definitely one to try again at some point. Appreciate your comments 😊
Great effort guys. It’s in no way a fail, getting down safely is a win & the mountains will always be there for another day. Keep up the great work
Thank you, appreciate your words. Even though we didn’t manage it this time we’ll be back!

Loved the recap at the end. Great effort and you can have another go another time. Great call in those conditions.
Thanks Mick, I think it was the right call too. Hate bailing but I think it could have been iffy going onto Leg 3 after seeing what Fairfield had in store for us. Will try again 👍
Mega effort both of you.
Fair play. Great production as normal.
Enjoyed watching thanks guys 😊
Thanks both. Tough day out but still look back at it with enjoyment for some reason! Been a lovely few days away 👍
Brilliant effort guys, but you need to be safe! You will do it one day, but it’s these recce’s that you learn from! Love the debrief at the end!
Thanks Karen. It’s a tough nut to crack, that’s for sure. It’ll be there again for us one day. Thanks again for watching, always appreciate it 😊
The sound of the wind at @14:20 actually made me shiver haha! Brutal!

Thank you David, shame it didn’t go to plan but that’s the way it goes sometimes!
Well done guys, even attempting a BG this time of year takes some guts! Great video as always.

An incomplete unsupported winter round is not a failure. It's unfortunate but good effort for getting out there.
