    Thanks! I'm having to use these cable stops, and they didn't really seem to me to be that safe. I'm going to check into your ideas about how to make that connection inside those cable stops safer. That's my big concern.

    Thank you, Paul. Another excellent video. I have done every single thing to my 2015 Vic XCT that you've covered in your video series...and my bike is a better ride as a result.       Hi Alex, good to hear from you. You are correct, metric is so much easier. Canada seems to be stuck in the middle. Fuel, temperature, speed and distance is all metric but things like hardware is still in Imperial measurements. It gets confusing. Probably because most of the items comes from the States.

    I’m a sport bike rider, I’m not a big fan of cruisers/harleys or the people that ride them. They’re always super disrespectful towards me just because I ride a sport bike.. but this dude seems like a nice guy, and this video just saved me today.

    For your cable, I would suggest going to a marine store. Specifically, one that sells stuff for sailboats. They will have the cable in stainless if that's what you want. You will find two types of wire rope - a) for standing rigging. That is for the wires that hold up the mast and life lines that run around the deck. This stuff is somewhat flexible but not a lot. In the diameter needed for clutch cables, this would likely be pretty flexible and should be fine. The other type is b) for running rigging. Running rigging is for hoisting sails and that sort of thing. It goes around pulleys so has to be more flexible. If you don't live near a marine store, try a place like West Marine online.
    Edit : I just unwound the end of my old Honda CBR cable and it is .081" diameter and is 1 x 19 wound. That is, there are 19 strands wound around each other into a single cable. That would suggest in a boat shop, it would be for standing rigging. If you see cable such as 7 x 7, it would mean 7 strands, each made up of 7 smaller strands and then the whole thing wrapped around each other into the single larger wire.
    Edit 2 : I just bought 4 feet of 1x19 stainless wire at my local marine store for $2.65 Cdn / about $2.00 U.S.

      Actually, I was going to sacrifice my clutch cable and cut it off to show how to install the replacement, but most people don't like long videos and this one was already over 7 minutes long, so I had to do it this way.

    Great Vid as always Paul!
    It would be awesome if you share where you get the cable ends ( and cable as well ). I’ve heard that garage door cable works too, but I haven’t actually looked at it to see if it’s a 7 strand.
    (I do know how it’s wound determines how flexible vs.how much it stretches and the clutch cable is the low stretch winding)

      Hey Paul, it looks like the Home Depot cable is 7x7, whereas the OEM is 19x1, have you looked at the difference in fit and stretch?
      I’m sure In a pinch it doesn’t matter. But considering the insane Polaris pricing on replacements, it would be great to make it a more permanent solution.
      (Yeah I was already looking at swage tools when you posted your great vid!)

      The overall thickness is still 3/32" in diameter. The 7x7 will be more flexible than the 1x19 so it should be able to handle the motion at the lever end and not break as easily as the 1x19. I would imagine the set screws will also have more to bite into on the 7x7 just because there are more strands. Come to think of it, I would guess that the 7x7 is a better choice of cable for this application. Let me know what you think.

      @@PaulPomerleau You may be on to something there, since the breaks happen at the ends where the cable is flexed. I find it interesting that the japanese manufacturers get it right by adding a pivot at the clutch end to reduce/eliminate cable flex. And.... If Polaris had made the clutch lever (at the clutch end) they would have reduced the loading on the cable, made the engagement point more progressive and made the easy pull "solution" pointless, without the problems the easy pull has of being too much leverage, creating a much too wide engagement/adjustment range. But they have fixed this if you look at the Indian Challenger, including different cable routing to get rid of the steel tubing bend. Love my Vic, but the clutch cable engineering fell down a bit. I'll have to try the 7x7 cable in spite of the 1x19 being chosen as it would have the least amount of stretch.

      Thank you for looking into this for me. I did some research and found that a lot of their air/hydraulic bottles are leaking and also they are behind on delivery of their products. So I have decided to build my own. Thanks for helping me on this, I appreciate it.

    Emergency repair kits cost 50 bucks. I can get 2 clutch cables for my bike from Amazon for that price and be good to go.

      The cable stops I got at an automotive store. Canadian Tire in my area, but they are available anywhere. The cable and set screws were at Home Depot but I imagine Lowes would also carry it. Thanks for watching.

      West Marine or any boating store that has supplies for sail boats - they use it for rigging. And it will be stainless.

    I have a clutch problem with my 106. When cold is very jerky (difficult to tak off from stand still). Looks like it is not only me as I see may people commenting this video: th-cam.com/video/lcNeOJBL-98/w-d-xo.html Do you think I shall replace my clutch? If yes which one will you recommend? Any possibility for a video on clutch replacement procedure?

      Are you talking about a stickiness (jerky) on the clutch lever? Hard to get it into the friction zone? When the bike is off, push in the clutch lever and let it out slowly. Does it stick a bit and bind a bit? If so, it's your cable.

      @@PaulPomerleau It is happening only when bike is starting for the first time (no matter hot or cold). It feels like clutch has a quarter of a second grip then next quarter of a second slips and then again and again. Feels like vibrating between grip and no grip. Also I have a hydraulic clutch not cable. The previous owner installed it. For now my solution is to up RPM then pulse is very fast and not feel that bad. But if I will try turn from the stop using clutch friction then that may be no happy day. Loosing power in middle of the slow turn is always an issue.
