    Mr. Hughes rules. He has never been wrong, and he's my go to guy on bike motors. If you do as he suggests, you will have a minimum amount of trouble with your bike and motor, and a maximum amount of seat time, which means fun. He knows his shit!

    Honestly bro, I don't know what the hell all these people are bitchin about...things like its not safe and why not just buy. I think people just come on here to flame people for taking the time to show somebody that wants to actually know how to do shit for themselves. I have a 20 plus year old Suzuki and the clutch cable is about $40 mostly because its not a very popular bike, then you have others that have bikes that are 50 years old. Try finding factory parts for that where you don't need to sell a kidney for. $40 isn't that bad but the 2 weeks of international shipping sucks. So I'd like to thank you for taking the time and sharing you knowledge. Don't pay any attention to all the negativity.

    • @Teeveepicksures

      amen!
      learning to cut and adjust your own cables is so f@$#ing easy that people who just wanna pay instead of actually learning something useful confuses the hell out of me.
      If you can fix what you ride, by a fucking Camry.

    this is really a good method. I found another way that will work if you don't have soldering material and/or the skill to use them. You buy a aluminum ferrule stop for 1/8th inch cable, drill a hole through it that is perpendicular to the 1/8 in cable hole, stick the end of your throttle cable into the hole you just drilled, then use a 3 lb hammer to crimp the stop onto the cable. Then use a file to shape the result so that it will fit into the twist channel. It works, believe it or not.

    Not "Silver Solder". Most likely 60/40 (60% lead - 40% tin) "soft solder. Silver solder requires heat of about 1,000 degrees F (depends upon components) and is used for stainless steel cables and "sweating" socket joints. Silver solder also requires special flux. Most welding supply houses carry silver solder and online of course. Some cables are stainless steel. Use a magnet to determine if stainless, stainless is not magnetic or only slightly magnetic. Steel cable will pull a decent magnet without any doubt.

    I like the tire-iron idea.
    It the future you may want to only dip about half the fitting into the solder as opposed to s half inch or so of cable. I believe this will help with the wire being potentially brittle if it has to make a tight corner (which is the case if you were making a cable for a motorcycle throttle).

    Note: If that was what's called "tinners" flux (which is what you use to be able to solder to steel) , be sure to neutralize it because it is a powerful acid and over time can corrode the cable end and the inside of the conduit. A little sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water will do, then rinse well.
    Also, be sure not to breathe the fumes of any soldering or welding process. Flux and vaporized metal can be really bad for you!

      @manuelluis5456 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tarstarkusz sometimes is VERY MUCH NEEDED to put another lead tip on the OTHER END of the cable ATER it went throught the conduíte ,,,, not BEFORE ( or it won't pass throught the conduíte anymore ) .

    • @krishillis5275
      @krishillis5275 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't take a broke clutch cable and add length to it, your gonna need to buy a new 1 or new wire that is long enough to do the job... and in your case I would make sure that you but at least 12 inches extra.

    • @waynethomas1427

      You make the outer sheathing, or conduit shorter. If it's too short, you can buy new cable parts and make your own...

      Some cables are no longer made. Some are impossibly stupidly overpriced. Most cables don't wear out just stretch which is their weak link. Take a look at the price for some of the snowblowers cables today. Ariens wants almost $50 for a stupid little cable just because they can get it and the things only 12 years old and rarely use just to put salt in the wound . Gone is the day of the six to $10 replacement cable

Just install your brass chingasa, fray or crimp the end to keep the bead from falling off, slap some plumbers paste flux on that end, hit it with the torch, apply regular ol' plumbing solder. Bada bing bada boom. What's with all the crucible alchemy dramatics?
