Hey, I finally got mine installed on my '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery. I also made a TH-cam video and made sure I mentioned B.S. Garage channel in the description. Thanks again for sharing your hard work. Subscribed.👍👍❤
Dude- First off, I can totally relate to your joy at having an idea for a solution work on the first try out of the gate. Gotta savor those wins, they can be few and far between. Second- I used those Amazon struts to turn a lift-off engine access panel into a hinged hood. It worked, but I'll tell you- the stamped-steel brackets that came with the shocks ended up bending at the point where the ball mounts. I just made heavier ones from angle iron, but just a warning, they may bend and fatigue. Anyway, nice job, thanks for sharing the tip!
Installed 100 lbs struts on my 1953 Bel Air after seeing this video. Used the center side rubber bumper on the hood for the lead hood bracket bolt hole. Worked very well.
Just did this mod on my '49 chev. business coupe !! Man O' Man what a difference, minimal time involved.. used the 100lb springs and they just fine !! hardest part was taking off those old large hood springs back in the corners !! lol What a great Mod to do if you own a '49 - 53 chev that uses those old springs !!
This is a great video. I have a 53 chevy and the location of attachment works for me. I have a DeSoto coupe and the trunk lid is very heavy. I used a bath scale and a piece of 2x4 to weigh the trunk lid approximately where the struts attach. Works great for figuring out what size and pressure to order. I also bought 100 lb.
Bro beautiful Chevy , I just found your page , I have a 51 I’m building, couple questions, what suspension you got , what’s those rims , make size width and tires size , did u have to cut the splash aprons to fit them wheels , also what radiator you use and is it mounted forward of the support cause it looks like there’s a lot of space , hit me back please
question, will it work if the struts are put on the opposite way? Thanks for the video, been trying to figure out to by pass the original springs. Thanks again for figuring it all out for us.
thanks for sharing!....great tip. are you able to share how far up the hood you drilled the holes (e.g. can you measure up how far your holes are?) thanks again.
All depends on how far you want the hood to open and how you modify the brackets. Shocks at full extension, bolt on the bracket and make marks on where to drill the hood.
@@snedenwerks just love your vids.... thanks for sharing - can i ask, what rad did you end up using in your chevy? i have to change mine up.... yours looks great.
Great tip. Added these to my 49 Fleetline. I started with the 100lb units then switched to 80 lbs. Felt better with 80s. Thanks for the video. I'm also going on the PowerTour in June, first outing for my 49.
I knew you could do it... Not there yet on my 53, but it beets a chrome broomstick and the dangerous stock springs. And you might have gained a few hp....LOL
Wonder if there will be enough clearance to leave the springs on hinges ? Great vid thank you for sharing . Just ordered 100lbs set for my 54 bel air .
I did not. The 120s worked for my hood but being from Amazon and how cheap they are, who knows if what the advertised rated is what it really is. Try the 100s and hopefully if they work you can send the others back. Good luck
Installed today and cannot close the hood. The gas struts reach the fully compressed length before the hood is completely shut. The ones you used are 15" extended and 9" compressed?
Yes I’m just finding this out as we speak. I’m putting these on my 54. I ordered the 100lb as well and it’s very difficult to close and doesn’t open very wide. So I think I’m gonna try a 25” and lighter weight. Did you end up figuring it out?
As a car guy, it's the simple things that bring us joy!! Well done!!
Worked perfect! Used the 100lbs ones instead. Thanks for the video!
Awesome!

100% doing this. Awesome video brother. I’m building a 53. 😊🤙🏻
great idea and execution! going to try this on our 55 Buick
Very cool I will be trying it on my 52.
First try and perfect in every way! Yeah, you must be living right.😎 Ya don't get bragging rights with $300 billet lifts, these ya do.
We better hurry up and order these before they sell out. Super cool
I installed the 125lbs one and I found it very stiff and difficult to close the hood. I ordered the 100lbs ones and those worked much better for me.
I ordered 125 also and when I try to push them by hand it's imbossible.
I tried fitting on my mustang 2 today and didn't get it right ,was pissed off I will try what you did hope ie works .
I just ordered some for my 54 hardtop! This looks so cool! Thanks!
Great job.can you send a photo of where the hole on the hood hinge goes?Thank You.
Now I'm headed that way on my Shoebox ! Thanks for the link.
Please share a close up of where you mounted the strut to the hinge
2:39 you can see my mark
Man im gonna do that to my 54 i wonder if i can get that to work on my 48 thats kool
Thanks for the tip. I have a '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery. It need this.👍👍❤

these look like they work great! how have they held up?
@@bigdave6597 great! 13k miles on the car and hood still opens
might try this on my 47 olds restomod, coool beans!

@@snedenwerks did you leave the springs installed?
No, that’s the whole point is to ditch them
@@snedenwerks just wanted to make sure. Thank you for the quick response. Wow
Just did this to my 50 fleetline. Actually found the struts cheaper on eBay. $19. Took less then 30min to install.
Dam thats a beauty love that body style
Same as many comments below. My strut idea is not as good as yours! I'm gonna switch. 53 bel air hard top

Gonna try this on my 52 chieftan thanx!

Great vid thank you for sharing . Just ordered 100lbs set for my 54 bel air .
I ask. His response was that he took them off.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Nice work 👏
You gotta do the truck now
Dude, thank you!!! This is awesome
Pretty cool
Great job, man
Ordered!!! Thanks
Whelp I know what's gonna be at my door in 1 to 2 business days lol
That's awesome...great fix.
I think my 54 truck mounts are different. Do you know if anyone has tried this?
gonna use these on my 51 now..
Hey, I love this build it's FN awesome!!! did you leave the stock door latch or did you upgrade them?
Thanks! Latches are stock. They work great so I didn’t feel a need to change them.
@@snedenwerks thank you for the reply, and thank you for this build I can't stop watching the videos awesome awesome 50

would this work on a 1948 chevy sedan?
Installed today and cannot close the hood. The gas struts reach the fully compressed length before the hood is completely shut. The ones you used are 15" extended and 9" compressed?
Link is in the description of the exact ones I used
ordered the kit on your link. my hood wont close, not even close. 1953 chevy. maybe weaker struts?
I’m using the 120lb ones with no issues. Maybe make sure you don’t have any binding? Good luck
just put in a set of 80s . 15 inch . they work. I would like the hood to open higher. maybe longer stroke. good for now. 53 sedan delivery.
Did you figure it out? I had a time, but I did get mine to shut. I think the 125lb ones are too strong though.
Nice Ride, Any chance it's for sale? I'm the guy ready to buy, let me know
closes better than some new cars
Did you put the 100 lb on or just leave 120 lb? Just put Springs on my brothers car. Scary!
Mine are the 120
53 Pontiac...hood won't close...hinge side stays up
That is really perfect
I presume these are the 15 inch 120 lbs gas shocks? For 29.95.
Let me know, thanks
Yes they are
Awesome thank you!!!!
awesome possum
Awesome.
Awesome!!
You surprised yourself. Lol
This does not work for a 53 unless you only want your hood to open 2ft. You need closer to a 25" strut for the hood to open an adequate amount.
Yes I’m just finding this out as we speak. I’m putting these on my 54. I ordered the 100lb as well and it’s very difficult to close and doesn’t open very wide. So I think I’m gonna try a 25” and lighter weight. Did you end up figuring it out?
