    The brackets I received have a Centerline hole distance of 5" just a heads up so that some people don't drill 5.75" on accident. Make sure to double check distance prior to drilling.

      We've made the brackets longer since the video has been made. It helps keep the hood more ridged on a troubled area. The measurement from first rubber bumper to where you drill the first hole is 5.75". The holes on the brackets are 5" on center.

    Hi, would these work on a ‘42-‘’47 Ford pick up? Or do you think you may offer a kit sometime in the future? Thanks.

    I wonder how well this kit would work on my 1953 Chevy COE

    You said 6 3/4 for the first hole but if you go to the LS Fab site it says 5 3/4 for the first hole. Which is it?

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've made a revision to the hood bracket. We made them 2" longer to help spread the force out. If you have a longer bracket than in this video then you will drill the first hole at 5.75"
      I've made the change in the description of this video as well.

      Since mine didn’t come with any instructions, I referred to this video to do my install. Couldn’t figure out why it didn’t raise up as far as it should until I read this comment and realized I had the revised kit. It would have been nice to have known that before I drilled unnecessary holes that I’ve got to go back and fill. Also, my hood gaps are horrible now. Is there any adjustment to these?

      @@MrChevy3600 In every kit we send a install link to this video. In the description of the video I've added the change in mounting hole location. The first 300 kits sold require the old measurements. I tried to be specific explaining the on center measurements of the bracket used in this video. Even without measuring your brackets it's fairly apparent they are 2" longer.
      This video is only a guide to "help" with installation of the struts and its suggested to always measure twice drill once.
      We will make changes to the card supplied and make another reference to the change.
      As for your hood gap because you have changed the dynamics of how your hood opens it may require some adjustments. Check to see if your hinges are good and solid. Some of our clients state our struts fix their hood alignment while other do need to fine tune the hinges.

    • @MrChevy3600
      @MrChevy3600 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, my kit didn’t include anything other than the parts. I made sure of that.

    • @kentzakis2309

      @@MrChevy3600 You just have to re adjust your hood again on the main hinges. Not a big deal.

    Hi I'm looking at your shocks I have a 52 cant get the hood to align do these help at all with this

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  ปีที่แล้ว

      We've had some guys where it helps with alignment but some cause their hood to go out of alignment. Luck of the draw. But know that the hood has adjustment so even if these don't fix the problem it's adjustable.

    On installing the gas struts on the 1947 truck, did you remove the highest and spring too. Please text back

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Highest spring? I don't understand the question. You remove the factory springs from hood hinge.

  • @livemeyer
    @livemeyer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    My truck has terrible hood alignment. It is high across the entire rear edge. You mention this kit *may* help with alignment issues but I see no detail in that, neither in the comments nor the video itself. What specific things can be done with this kit to better align the hood?

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My suggestion is loosen the hinges apply force down along the cowl where it is higher and tighten the hinges. There is lots of adjustment on the factory hinges.

    • @livemeyer
      @livemeyer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lsfab4607 thanks for the reply. My question was more geared toward the aftermarket hood hinges you sell, not the factory hinges. I have spent a great amount of time trying to get the hood aligned and my hope is that there is some adjustment in the LS Fab hinges that it might work better to get it aligned properly.

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are LS Fab hood struts. I was explaining to you how to align your factory hood "hinges" they are located on either side of the cowl between your hood and cowl. There's bolts you can loosen via the inside the cab.
      Loosen the factory hinges and apply force down to where you want the hood to sit, possibly over estimate due to spring back. As you hold the hood down you may need another hand to tighten the bolts. Try this out. If you still struggle my personal phone number is 780-678-9469 (Chris) call me and I'll try and walk you through it.

    the idea is great but as somebody that owns 1 of these trucks i dont see why you would remove springs that are still doing their job in my case 72 years later? these units be lucky to last a solid 20 years of operation

    • @lsfab4607
      @lsfab4607  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These struts may not be for everyone, but we've sold these to individuals who may not have the factory springs or they are not in as good condition as they once were; rusted, broken and or weak.
      The new struts look better, function smoother and in some applications it's even solved some hood alignment issues which these trucks have a lot of.
      I hope this clarifies why someone would want a set. Maybe I could offer you a cup holder instead? Every 72 year old truck needs a cup holder!

      I own a hot rod shop and have a 48 GMC here in the shop. These are the only brackets in the customers price range that allow the hood to close with custom inner fenders I made. The gas struts are replaceable after 20 years if they no longer work. LS Fab good job on the product!

      Skinny shaft up towards the front of the truck.

    • @cliffrice5338
      @cliffrice5338 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lsfab4607 I was always told to install them with the skinny end down so the oil in the fat end keeps the seal lubricated where the shaft slides through. When the hood is closed, the firewall end will be lower and that is how it will spend 99+% of its life. Based on this, the skinny end should go towards the firewall. Maybe your gas springs are different.

      If I do understand correctly I'd have reason to believe it's a hood alignment issue and not the hood struts. You can email info@ls-fab.com if you have more questions it may make it easier than over TH-cam comments.
