I went to Big Mikes just a few months ago. My first time there I didn’t even know it was on bar rescue. The place still looks great and seems to be thriving even through this pandemic. My first time there and I loved the place. Good food, good service, and cold beer.
I go to Big Mike’s often. It’s a staple down here I couldn’t imagine a Denham without Big Mike’s
I also went there a few weeks before the pandemic. I knew it was on BR, but when I saw it, I said "THIS was rescued?" The Before and After are night & day.
I've been going to Big Mike's for 2 years and I like it there. Can't beat their happy hour specials.
The Puerto Rico rescue I think was my favorite rescue because not only did Taffer fix up the bar but also the community center where the kids play and that means the world to the parents of those kids in that community. This really was a heart warming rescue, Taffer is a great guy.
They really didn't even need a rescue. They needed to get off their asses and clean their restaurant. They were waiting for Hurricane Aid from the US Government. That's why they didn't put in the effort to clean it up and reopen their restaurant. Seems pretty shady.
Yeah that one was meaningful because their issues weren't there fault, they weren't drunk, lazy, douchebag owners, they were hit with a natural disaster out of their control, so I really felt for them

And for the record Ruerto Ricans are US citizens. Not only do they pay for taxes but get no vote in the presidency, but they also have participated in every single US lead war sence World War 2. they are taxed without representation. that money for aid rightfully belongs to them. It's the least the US can do.

Miaposa Marie well said! If you haven’t been devastated by a natural disaster people don’t get it! It’s overwhelming and hard to know where to start rebuilding! I guess that other commenter doesn’t know all that about PR! FYI Puerto Rican’s don’t need visas or passports to come live, work etc. on the mainland because they’re a US territory! Marie do you have any insight why Puerto Rico isn’t our 51st state? It should be. Beautiful country populated with great people and those PR Paso Finos are fabulous!

One thing I really like is when Taffer keeps the name.
I understand when he changes the name of the bar, but when he keeps a place with a lot of meaning in the name like Big Mikes or the Triple Nickel, it just makes me smile. New exterior, same soul that made it special.
Hearing Big Mike say "our bar" really shows how good of a person and owner he is. And I really hope the rest of people in this compilation have great lives now.
4:26 I remember that episode. It was the special where they rescued a bar from the aftermath of a hurricane and the guys from Spirits helped out with the glasses.
Big Mike’s Bar looks incredible. Definitely one of the more touching rescues that Jon Taffer has done. Wow. Same with the Puerto Rico one.
The Bar Rescue construction crew do such an amazing job in such a short amount of time. Just amazing.
I went to Spirits on Bourbon a few years ago before I even knew it was on Bar Rescue. The Resurrection was incredible. Jon really did absolute wonders for that place

Moon runners is about 3 hours from me and it’s one hell of a bar!

Spirits on Bourbon's my favorite bar rescue. I'll be in the Big Easy this summer. I will stop there for a good time.

Heart goes out to the the bar if it’s still open. My favorite bar rescue was the failed golf theme. The New Orleans bar looks fun & who wouldn’t want to buy one of those cups. Just to name a few.
I really hope these bars make it through the pandemic really great places in their communities. I hope you guys all are doing well and staying strong and safe. We can get through this together.
Yeah there have been so many businesses in general that are going to close cause of this. I hope John goes back to help some of his previous rescues that got screwed cause of this.
Whoever put this video together needs to go back now and do a follow-up on how these places are doing!!!

What most people don’t know is that Big Mike’s wasn’t like any other episode of Bar rescue. Jon came to Big Mike’s after the town went through the worst flood in 40 years. Big Mike’s was a successful bar before but after it was destroyed by the flood we didn’t think we’d have a Big Mike’s anymore. Thanks Jon.

When you see this type of happiness and transformation it’s a fucking wonder how any of the bars could fight against him and argue. I would be on my knees, humbled and begging for help.
Unfortunately, many Bar Rescues are because the owners are giant jerks

I mean, that's dedication. My small town decided to save our community park when the county wanted to sell the land for commercial development.
We won. Today, there's a baseball field that's MLB class. There's a football field that's subdivided into soccer training fields. Two buildings host garden club meetings.
The gem is our $6.2 million dollar bandshell, which hosts multiple events the year around. Some are unannounced! We do stuff like that here.:)

The French Quarter bar is the only bar I saw change in real life, due to the fact that I lived in New Orleans at the time

Jon needs to come down to Prescott, Arizona & re do some of the bars here. Like Gurley Street Sports Pub. Yeck! They definitely need a remodeling job & a great clean up too. It's always so dirty.
Leana Jo Murphy IKR? I don’t get not cleaning your own bar and/or restaurant! I’ve been to rural beer joints with dirt parking lots where you could tie your horse up outside to hitching post that were clean inside! I’ve been to high end places that were filthy. No rhyme or reason and always comes down to the owner and manager not giving a care about customers!
You can tell in the Operation Puerto Rico that Jon Taffer was saddened by the losses from Hurricane Maria when he spoke out in that episode.

I actually went to Spirits on Bourbon street after the episode aired (not for that reason, just happened to go to New Orleans), and it was interesting to see how they'd changed. They were REALLY busy, but it was the week before halloween, so all of Bourbon Street was insane. Didn't see anyone on the stool thingy and it was kinda dark and didn't love the environment, but it could just be because they were so packed, I could barely walk around. I guess that's a good sign... (This was in 2017 or 2018, can't remember for sure).

They say that because the crowds that show up for stress tests are all hired. The stress test is silly sometimes too because these are dive bars, they won't be busy like that. Also they only change how they bar looks. They don't go over the accounting which is very important in running a business.

These shows are nice in theory, but like kitchen nightmares, you can’t fix incompetent ownership. If they don’t care enough to keep up the changes, take care of the new appliances, and enforce what they learned, their bar is gonna go right back in the shitter.

Jaenisch Think about it. If you were working at a place with substandard equipment and space to work, you would be excited to finally have the equipment to do your job to the best of your ability. But if you’re just hired help, why would you care 🙄

From what I heard, Jon rescued Big Mike’s almost for free. Big Mike’s wasn’t a failing business it was hit by a huge flood and destroyed.
Went to moon runners quite a while after the show it sucks the food was awful the service worse they added 25%to our bill and then wouldnt even give us back our change they round Bill's to the nearest dollar(illegal by the way)our 125 dollar lunch(no booze) cat us almost 175 dollars live just miles away to this day never went back what a joke

Every bar should go under. Drinking alcohol is bad for you. Then people make money off of it. They deserve to loose everything they have. Have a business that is useful and not destructive to people. Jon makes money from people destroying them selves.
So anyone who sells alcohol should lose their job or business according to you. If in your thoughts everything from Wal Mart to Applebee's must close down. And also remember George Washington also had a brewery at Mt. Vernon.
