  • If there's anyone who can prevent a bar or restaurant from going belly up, it's Jon Taffer. Widely considered the greatest authority in the food and beverage, hotel, and hospitality industries, he runs the biggest trade show in the business and has turned around nearly 1,000 bars and at least that many restaurants.
    As host and co-producer of Paramount Network’s “Bar Rescue”, a documentary-style series, Taffer gives struggling bars one last chance to succeed with a mixture of business acumen and tough love. Now he's offering his no-nonsense strategy for eliciting just the right emotional reactions in customers to everyone.
    Raise the Bar distills the secrets to running a successful enterprise with Reaction Management, a strategy and philosophy Taffer developed and uses in his business and on Bar Rescue. It works whether you're running a storefront operation or a web-based company, whether you're manufacturing widgets or providing a service.
    Taffer's overarching philosophy is this: All business is about creating the right reactions in your customers. Even better: You can control those reactions to a very large degree. Raise the Bar is the definitive manual on transforming a bar or restaurant with actionable, proven strategies for immediate impact.
    Moderated by Google Chef Paul Cingolani.

    @12:30 and on - don't blame others, blame yourself: Oversimplification. Sure it would be nice and it IS a real phenomenon, that always blaming others thing. However, his advice works for ANYONE but not for EVERYONE (like most of those money-related motivational pieces of advice). Meaning, anyone who follows the advice can have success, so that part is true.
    But what happens if everyone does it? Then much of that kind of advice falls flat. In this context, there is only so much any given market can take, restaurants, bars etc (or anything else). So when you have only motivated intelligent people who never blame others and try their hardest, you STILL have about the same failure rate.
    So that kind of advice DOES work - in small doses. Don't try to put any such "motivators" in charge of a country or the world. My comment is specifically about that section around 12,13 minutes ONLY, I didn't watch the rest (not interested, not because I think it's a bad interview; I was only mildly interested in the subject to begin with).

    • @dantro78
      @dantro78 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Hasenstein,
      I agree that motivational speaking often preaches an oversimplified view of the world and the process through which one can better themselves. However, you have to remember that when a motivator steps into a room and speaks to a crowd, if they can reach just one person, they've succeeded.
      I've worked as a performing musician and music teacher for a number of years. In that time, I've done many seminars and clinics about improving as a musician, largely centered on practice techniques. How many of these young musicians will actually follow my advice and apply the work ethic and approaches I've shown them? Almost none of them. Why? Because that's just the way it is, and I've learned to accept that as such. One can be the most entertaining and effective communicator, but it ultimately is incumbent on the individual to take the advice and apply the work ethic presented.
      My point is: If only one person in a crowded room hears what Jon Taffer says and they decide to alter their efforts as a result, than the seminar was an overwhelming success.
