I lived in Athens in 1950 and 1951. Our landlady made these, and they were fantastic. I’m 80 years old now, and I hope mine are as good as hers. Thank you!
Dimitra! It worked 😅 !!! We cannot buy phylo paper here in the Philippines, but we do have a very thin pastry paper for making lumpia, the Philippine version of eggrolls. Its light, flaky, crispy and very tasty when fried. They are usually filled with meat and vegetables, but everyone here also loves turon which is a small dense banana rolled in sugar and rolled in the lumpia wrapper. I found out the hard way that they do not work as well baked. I tried to make your spinach pie and it just got all soggy. Baklava is my favorite dessert. I realized I cannot bake this pastry wrapper, nor can I pour the syrup over the top but when I saw this recipe, I decided to try it by putting the nuts, butter, sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon -everything - INSIDE :) then fried them, served them warm with powdered sugar on top to look like a dessert ... And they were tasty !! Light, flaky, crispy on the outside with the nutty, sweet baklava flavors on the inside . Delish! Thank you for all your wonderful ideas! Next week I'll try the Greek donuts. I won't even try to pronounce them 🤣. God bless you and your family. Have a wonderful thanksgiving!!
😊 thank you!! My mom taught me a lot and I read MANY cookbooks :) I used to watch cooking shows as a kid way back before they were lifestyle shows. Yup! I was that nerd 😂
Thank you for the wonderful recipe and the wonderful teaching bakllava I just want to learn one more thing in the friend of baklawa it's Asian whenever we buy from the store I think so it's the thin pasta stuff they use can you show that recipe please in the middle
Hi Dimitra. Incontestable you are an amazing cook and baker ! I enjoy all your videos. I used to get dressed in black as long as I remember my self, than someone told me that blac suits me good but it is so sad for people around... I see you in black and I feel sad... ❤
Not at all. To keep them crisp, make sure that as soon as they come out of the oven pour the cooled syrup over them. The syrup must be cool otherwise they will become soggy.
You are such a wonderful cook in a wonderful teacher. I want to try this but I don't know where to get rose water I've never seen it. Where can I get it?
Man I wish my wife cooked like you do. But then I'd probably weigh 500lbs LOL. Does your family get to eat all the food you do for your video's? They must love living there. I especially would love your lamb and your baklava. Happy New Year to you and your family.
We do not claim. That baklava is a Turkish dessert that is thousands of years old and it is a known and historical fact. Baklava is already a Turkish word.

I made baklava many years ago for my birthday. Looks like it’s time to make it again. Baklava is a heavenly dessert! As is ice cream!
Combine the two and you’re in heaven 😍😋
İkisi bir arada harika olur. Baklava cenneti Türkiye den selamlar.❤️🇹🇷

Wow! These look wonderful and so tasty! I've been trying to develop a good baklava and the way you rolled these seems genius! Great content :)
Dimitra, you are such a wonderful cook. Are you self-taught or you learned from your mother? You really should have your own Greek cooking show 😁😁
😊 thank you!! My mom taught me a lot and I read MANY cookbooks :) I used to watch cooking shows as a kid way back before they were lifestyle shows. Yup! I was that nerd 😂

I have to make this. Where can I get rose water from?
Mediterranean/Middle Eastern markets sell it. Amazon also has it :)
Dimitra do you have a recipe for stifatho using venison meat ?
Where do I find the written recipe measurements
Where can I get skinless pistachios so I can get them very green
OMG WAIT AN HOUR? NO WAY. In this house it would never make it. In all honest, might not make it to the oven. Love it. Tfs
LOL 🤣🤣 sounds like we’re related!! Haha! Enjoy!
TY sweet Dimitroula mou! I'll make these. I would like to prep them & freeze them. Is that ok or no? Happy 2020!
Does it get soggy from the simple syrup?
Not at all. To keep them crisp, make sure that as soon as they come out of the oven pour the cooled syrup over them. The syrup must be cool otherwise they will become soggy.

Are the pistachios unsalted?
Yes, they're unsalted.
