Just finished the tmb with my 15 year old son. It was the most fantastic experience . I didn't book most refuges until the pervious days and often , you can ask after the meal is served if you can upgrade to a better room (at cost). I describe most dormitories as either 'slave ship' long and close together , or 'concentration camp' - big dorms of up to 3 bunks high. Honestly speaking, the best night's sleep can be found camping....
this is so cute. hiking with someone you love is the best! as a kid we went to the alps most summers to hike and there's nothing that makes me happier now.
Hi Justin. Found your channel when researching Ultralight tents. I enjoy your kind style of narration and hosting of videos! Congratulations on you and your wife completing this challenging hike. This was a real "marriage builder", and I hope you two can build on this as you move forward in your lives together. Praying the Lord will bless you both...
man i know im late to this video but i have to say i love it. me and my GF are going to get into hiking and seeing you guys just warmed my heart. i would love to see you guys do more Liked&subbed
Justin love the channel and happy you are able to do this full time now. Congratulations to you and Steph. You guys are a great team. Keep up the great work. Very informative and extremely helpful. I will throw my support for more videos with Steph coming along. This was a great video/ videos. Eddie
You two killed it. Looks like an incredible hike ... was blown away by the glaciers and contours of the mountains. Very impressive landscape and a nice change from the Rockies. Plus all those cheese snacks look great. Nom nom nom.
Although your trip is from a while ago. I just came across your video's a few days ago, and just wanted to say it was really fun to see. And you and your girlfriend really come over as fun and true people ❤
I’m in the middle of planning a very similar route and same number of days. This was really helpful and reaffirming from a planning standpoint , including gauging the physical effort in near identical start / stop points. Thank you! I am planning to push right through Trient from Champex and stay in Montroc. I know that will be a long stretch. I planned 2 more days after that to complete the loop.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!:) I'm doing the hike in August 2023 with a friend! Looking forward to it but a little nervous! :) Hard to train in Florida, pretty much at sea level here! Definitely have to be creative!
I would love to hear some tips and tricks during your planning of the trip. I have been a fan of your channel and was excited you did this trek. I am hoping to do it next year
Hi you beautuful couple 😉 Just found your Channel, and i love this video! The chemestry between you is as beautyful and the landscape! The editing is greate, story telling is fun, information is awesome! Easy and fun to watch! 11/10 no question. Now im gonna watch all your other videos haha Totaly hooked. Thank you 😄
Steph is tough girl, despite of pain she has smile on the face and is still super positive. You are great cuple, it's really nice to watch you guys. Thanks for this video, I'm going to do TMB in a next few days, so your viedo was very useful. Wishing you much more an amazing hikkings together :)
hej Weekend warrior Justin! Love your videos! Just finished the TMB in rain and storm...too bad we didnt take the condolas and taxis, it would have saved us a lot of miles- in fact a friend did the TMB entirely in his private plane...gosh he saved 102miles and 10.000m of elevation gain. But my girlfriend also saved lots of injuries and miles. She just stayed home and looked at my pictures doing every mile by foot 😅
Loved the video and the pace of the editing. Really enjoyed watching. Very interesting seeing you use almost all Decathlon gear. I found out about the value of Decathlon gear from your channel and since I've bought a couple fleece sweaters, a raincoat, and some other stuff and the quality is absolutely fantastic for the price. Not sure if I'd use their bags, tents, and packs but cool to see they offer almost everything.
Struggle backpacking? This is luxury backpacking 😂 Frostbite, swimming across rivers, bear attacks, glacier crossings, and storms are part of struggle backpacking in our neck of the woods
glad you made it .since you were lite on details ,costs for food ,lodging in various countries ,and meal descriptions would have flushed out the narrative I like Dixie and Efren. me I've just done the Camino Frances last year 2021,but sadly am 73 and looking at knee surgery!! hope to do the Portuguese next fall I
Hi, random outdoor (shoe) gear specialist from Amsterdam here: the backpain/achillespain could very likely (looking at Steph walking this entire vid) be because of using trail runners instead of boots. No stress, not sh1tty Merrels or whatever, but well-fitted German Lowa/Hanwag/Meindl depending on feet size/type/with and measured and advised in a high-end European non-chain outdoorstore. One of the awesome well-designed German mid-boots, fitted perfectly and maybe added insoles for further perfection let your feet-arch' tendons do their dampening work, giving the NO-fatigue effect Hokas pretend to have. Hokas are 'nice' in the way McDonnalds BigMacs are nice: easily obrainable and feel good initially but agrevate any back/achillis issues. German shoes are like real italian dinners in that regard. Especially now with the (congrats!) pregancy: the next time this or next year you as a family are in Europe, drop by to experience why 80mln people in the NW-Europe market don't wear trailrunners, when walking. Hiking shouldn't hurt but be perfect from the first step.
It's called a cog train. If you look at the center of the track it has a rack that the train can drive itself with at steeper inclines than a normal train can. I rode a few while hiking in Switzerland. This looks like an awesome hike BTW. Can't wait to do it someday.
As a beginner hiker/backpacker and immediately starting in the Alps, I know how though these mountains are. Seriously mad respect for the both of you with all those kilometers and elevation 👌 Do you have any tips on how to train for these kinds of things? Because my distance isn't even close to what you guys are doing but that might be because mostly of the elevation. I'm from The Netherlands and this country is flatter than a pancake 🥲
[2012] I stayed at Col de la Croix du Bonhomme, Bottom (horse poop) Level. The view from the deck, from late afternoon into darkness, was a Spectacular Evolution of light. Stayed also at Elizabetta Soldini. An IBEX herd gamboled by, in light rain. The "cord-wood" bunk arrangement at Soldini was a little weird - esp at TOP level. Overflow hikers were also sleeping in the entrance corridor. Lac Combal was basically drained/breached.
Thank you for your video, I'm in the planning stages. I was going to ask when you made this trip, but I think I saw July 4th stream across the pharmacy sign in Coermayeur? It looks like you had good luck with crowds and rain at this time? How far in advance did you book your accommodations?
Ascending Fenetre d'Arpette: We heard constant rock/pebble slides, on the south side of the valley. SADLY: The Glacier du Trient - once you've crossed over the Fenetre - has lost Massive amount of ice since I was there, back in 2012 :(
Congrats on The Ladders: The Second one "scared the Bejesus" out of me. But I DID it (Counting - Out Loud ?). After that: It was just like leaning in, on a Regular ladder (while hand-painting my house) XD
When you were at the fork in the trail and deciding on whether to take the Fenetre d'Arpette, I was like, OMG, don't do it. But then... y'all did it! I started out from Champex that morning with the goal of getting to Trient via the Fenetre d'Arpette. That just about killed me. I couldn't imagine starting in La Fouly! Much respect! That was indeed a hell of a day. One burning question though - why didn't you go full circle back to Les Houches? I actually think the Chamonix-Les Houches leg was one of my favorites of the tour.
Great video! I like your sense of humor and candidness throughout the video. Nice to see you guys have fun dancing on the trail. Justin, you are a romantic guy. You guys would be fun to hike with. Very helpful. Thank you for your honesty of aches and pains. I wanted to hear that. I have my own foot pain like Steph. Hope she healed. You guys did great!
Great that you made a trip in Europe! And congrats on getting engaged :) you guys are very cute! Enjoying your video so far. Min 40: you're supposed to remove the skin of a salametto before eating it xD Just in general, please be aware that cows can indeed attack people, and when they do, they do it as a herd, which is not that much fun: happened to me when I was hiking in Canton Graubünden (CH) with my aunties, age 10 - scared the crap out of me! Since then, I always hike with extra caution in my lovely Swiss Alps xD Cheers from a fellow Swiss hiker-lady guys :)
KUDOS To You, Sir, for mentioning that Glacial Moraine (after Elizabetta Soldini) ! I'm a Geologist, and I noted that (from above) one could see the uneven/pitted/collapsed surface - from glacier melting Underneath the sediment. We did the LONG, Downhill (40-degree-slope stair-step) hike, All the way to Courmayeur. Not Recommended for people with average knees. But Pizza followed :)
Did you buy a lot of gear specifically for the trip, while you were already in France? The gear lists read as if you guys went on a big shopping spree at Decathlon in France prior to leaving for the trip.
They were sponsored by Decathlon so I’m guessing they were provided with the kit and clothing free of charge or at a heavily discounted price. They’re showcasing the brand hence why everything is Decathlon branded. I’m not sponsored by them but have used several of their products and I have to say, for the price point, it’s very good quality and well designed. Decathlon have a range of clothing aimed more at hunters/bushcrafters etc sold under the brand name Solognac (pronounced like the brandy cognac) also very good.
Planning on doing thIs hike this summer. What is your suggestion for carrying cash vs credit cards and if it’s cash, how much would you suggest as we will be camping 90% of the time also. Travelling from Alberta.
U 2 R just 2 cute 4 words! Love the cow sounds 👌, and yes, your PTSD from the Grizzly encounter will always be with you. Stay safe guys! Love the content. Smiles from Banff
got a weird question tho. There are a lot of brands for bottled water, Dasani, Evian, Aquafina, Fiji (my favorite). Why everybody only chooses smart water??? You can even choose coke, 7 Up, Fanta, Sprit, Pepsi if you only need the bottle......why Smart water so popular??? Almost feels like a Smart Water Bottle Cult for me 😅😅😅😅
This was a great entertianing backpacking vid showing the fun and real circumstances of a trip like this. And watching the awesome interaction of a great couple like yourselves was just an added pleasure!
Just checked this place. It seems the trail will cross 3 countries. How could you deal with the visa btw??? Do you need all tree visas from Franch, Italy and Swissland?

Outstanding vid. Justin!!! A guaranteed beer at the end of every day sounds awsome.

Wow, what a crazy experience! Sure is beautiful. Definitely a bucket list item. Enjoy your time together on these trails!
Inspirational. Pure, unadulterated, honest motivation.
Nice video and trip.. new bucket list item. At 34:00, your map, you must have bought that in Europe? Love euro looking maps, so much detail!

Fantastic video. I’ll be driving down from the U.K in July 2023 to do this walk and this has been really helpful.
oh boy, I hope this almost 60 year old man can complete this this summer! july 3rd to the 15th....huge mental and physical prep! looking forward to it
Have a great hike!
hi guys well thank you for this video on the TMB it is so useful, and just great to watch.

Great trip 🙂 Thanks!
Congratulations on your engagement - an awesome way to celebrate 🇦🇺👍
What an amazing hike!! Y'all crushed it!!

First. Love your work Justin and Stephi-poo!
Hi Justin, great series! Where did you get the blue long sleeve hoodie that you wear in your videos? I don't see it listed on your gear list. Thanks!
It’s the Outdoor Research Astroman hoodie
Love the Astroman hoodie !
Hey Justin! What shades are you rockin? I love'em

Hello, what date has the trek been?
I enjoyed that but where exactly is Munt Blah?
Do you need to book in advance the refuges ?? If so how much in advance 😊

Making plans to do this next summer, do you have a recommendation for information on fees and reservations. Hoping to do camping for most.

I may have missed it but what time of the year was this?
What camera are you using?
Are there advantages/disadvantages to tight fitting clothing like leggings? I hear some people say they are better for walking in but can be colder.
Great video. Nice sponsor! A pity about the huge amount of ads in the video.
I just saw how many ads YT was putting on the video and manually made it so there are a lot less!
@@JustinOutdoors thank you very much Justin. It changed a lot. You are great! I love your channel.
How did you book the huts? Is it all done beforehand or can you just show up and there will be space?
I really want to do this hike in June 2023!

Damn... those poor cows must be going insane and Def with those bells!
Just checked this place. It seems the trail will cross 3 countries. How could you deal with the visa btw??? Do you need all tree visas from Franch, Italy and Swissland?
Italy and France are in the European Union so it is the same Visa for the whole Schengen Zone.
Wtf yall are so cute. Makes all my solo hiking feel more lonely. But good video.
Purple pants
Nothing cool about putting bells on cows
