DIE WALKÜRE
Wotan's Farewell and Magic Fire Music (Leb' wohl, du kühnes, herrliches Kind!)
THOMAS STEWART, bass-baritone
Wiener Philharmoniker
LEONARD BERNSTEIN, conductor
Recording: State Opera, Vienna, May 21, 1985
Was the recording engineer a horn player perchance?
I noticed that emphasized horn part at the beginning of Karajan's recording with the Berlin Phil, as well.
Bernstein's choice of tempo certainly is an acquired taste.
There is something about LB's decisions that makes me think that he thinks that the when he conducts a piece, it is invariably the best version. It will appeal to teenagers I guess. He never knows when best to leave alone. Which is okay in Mahler, Tchaikovsky and Strauss I suppose.
Merci !
Thanks for the upload!!

The conducting is interesting. Not to my taste, especially during the Zauberfeuer music. But interesting and well executed.
