I am 92 yo . The first five years of my life our family lived with my paternal grandmother.Opera was her strong suit but she loved classical music too. On an old , wind by hand R C A Victrola I became a huge fan of opera and classical music and this piece we played often.
Pour moi Wagner est le plus grand compositeur je pleure quand j'ecoute ses opéras . Ca prend aux tripes quels émotions on capte en ecoutant sa musique c'est un génie
This soaring string passage in the vids beginning sound familiar? Check out the Flutes in the finale minutes of the same Composers 'Tristan and Isolde". Theme is used once again.
Une pièce extrêmement tragique dans l'histoire de la musique. Un dieu se sépare de sa fille préférée. On l'entend alors orchestrer le sauveur de Brünhild : Siegfried ! Se termine sans douleur bruyante.
Dont be fooled by this videos audio. the Solti Ring which this came from is one of the best classical recordings there are. Das Rheingold and Die Walkure are on youtube with better audio. Around the 1950's and onwards you can find recordings on par with those of today, many times even better in my opinion.
@@mustysheep3977 I agree. The early Ampex and Scully recording decks were very good. And today software has been developed to cut out the imperfections and reduce noise and distortion to create the current day digital remastering that we now experience on various platforms. As an engineer I have 58 years of experience designing and building radio and recording facilities. I also own and manage 2 radio stations. The recording of Wagner that I was referring to could be restored to near perfection if someone did some surgery on it using current day digital restoration software.
The sound quality in 1964, when I bought the LPs, was 10 times better than this. It was from DECCA’s "full frequency range recording" days, and there are plenty of excerpts that show the difference. What a wasted opportunity...
I agree 100%. The state-of-the-art in the early 50s was fantastic after Ampex and Scully developed the mastering machines and 3M perfected the tape. I am a broadcast engineer with 55 years of station construction experience. I was partial to the Ampex 300, but the Scully 280 was just as good. Even radio stations in the 1960s could produce very high quality mastering use in commercials as well as on location recording of events. The frequency response on those machines was from 20 Hz to 20 KHz, with distortion so low, that could not be measured. We could run them up to 30 IPS if necessary. Dolby noise reduction was added to reduce tape hiss, and ambient noise in an area down to below the point of measurement. Sometime in the late 60s, Allison research developed the Kepex to do the same thing as Dolby.
Yes I own this whole set on vinyl -- like a 20 lb box! - but listening to it makes me shake my head at devotees of vinyl. I guess that's just based on nostalgia for the era in which they first heard the music, because it surely isn't on sound quality. ;)
as a composer, i must agree - Wagner has set the bar pretty high ! - i think the closest we have come to such epic music is Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings
WTF is a Valkyrie? It's a large-breasted blonde female warrior who rides a horse through the air over battlefields and distracts the fighting soldiers with her cleavage and, occasionally, her bare tummy, causing many of the warriors to die. Some of the warriors she sends to Valhalla; some she sends to Nebraska or New Jersey. She wears metal breast-plates instead of a bra because her milk is magical and she must have the say over who shall suckle from her. She gains muscle mass by draining semen from Odin whether he's drunk or not.
And this work in the theater is like nothing else! Overpowering drama. Goetterdaemmerung is for many a greater work, but we need to be aware of all the forces coming together, or you may think it's one gosh darned thing after another, but it's all the threads of the three previous works being pulled together for the Norse Ragnorak.

The quality is very bad by today's standards. I guess we are spoiled in 2024 by listening to HD.

Bellissimo
I hear a lot of Rossini (his serious operas) here. And it's no wonder since Wagner was a big fan of Rossini.
Very well
Només l'home pur, enamorat de tu, i tu d'ell, et despertarà del són que et dono.
You got to laugh at these guys all over the internet that think there making viking music nothing they do even touches the power of wagner
as a composer, i must agree - Wagner has set the bar pretty high ! - i think the closest we have come to such epic music is Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings
You cant rely on drums and incoherent groans wagner put more power in his oboe solos
Actually, the video presented distracted from the music.

Vielleicht etwas unbedarft: wagners Kompositionen sind total überschätzt. Da gibt es viel besseres. Was, fragt mich mal.

What a pity there is a translation facility!
