I’ve been really scared about doing battle damage for some of my Tau, but this video has been great for motivation
Just take a hammer and smash the tau models. Thats how you apply battle damage to them.

@@EvilLobsterKing No, I can vouch for this guy. Tau friend gifted me Tau for Christmas. He knows my relationship with Tau. It was great exercise AND I got to let off some steam. Would recommend 10/10.
Grab an old tank or car or airplane model, or toy, and practice on it.
You can also use the pluck foam from a pluck-n'-fit miniatures case.
Beautiful work, Valrak! I think you’ve absolutely nailed the right yellow and the level of grittiness. Good timing on those doors. I had no idea Forge World was stopping production of those and the Sons of Horus accessories. Great squadron you got there.

Looks great mate - good work. I keep my Ultra’s pristine as per their snooty outlook. I guess they have to repaint after every battle to keep that just new freshness! :D

I have wanted to try Imperial Fists for so long and always been a bit freaked to try because I'm not a good painter but I have learned so much from your videos and at the end of the month I will be joining the Imperial Fist family lol. You really do help people that are unsure in their abilities like myself.
Adding a comment here just to say thanks for this. I hope it’s not offensive to say but I’m amazed at how good and yet simple this technique is. I’ve not made a vehicle since the 90’s but I’ll definitely be trying this and maybe even dirtying up my marines too but super nervous about ruining my paint job

Very nicely done one. When I do some xenos vechicls I give'em no battle damage, Imperial I add some little Battle damage, Astartes - I'd give a loot of it, Ork equip - I take loots of damage and add some vechicle to it :)

"it's been in a battle, it's been roughed up" Dude my 2016 honda civic looks more roughed up than that thing does from driving in Washington DC. Hell my DRESS SHOES look rougher than that does and I don't wear them outside and work in an office. Typical pretty boy imperial fist. Battle Damage = slightly dirty and worn in not like the stuck in Iron Hands (who seriously need some add ons for primaris models). Also in all seriousness good job. Will probably use this technique on my Iron Hands successor Chapter (tentative name) Sons of Cain, brief description in the comments.
Homebrew chapter, which was the brain child of Inquisitor Vail and the result of her realizing Cain gets reported dead way too often, a serious blow to Imperial Morale, which could be lessened if he had successors to mitigate the blwo. Thus she hit up on the idea of offering the ladies of the imperium the chance to sire the a son or daughter of Ciaphas Cain and Gaunt (Gaunt never gets any credit so no change there plus Gaunt has his own lil following afterall). Added benefit none of those pesky Afriel Strain
's bad luck issues as they are home grown humans. Mixed with the culture of the Reclaimers who worked with Cain in the past on 2 occassions, and both Cain and Gaunt have augments (Cain's fingers and Gaunt's eyes) so that works too. The offer: "Hiver ladies, have you heard of the esteemed Hero of the Imperium Ciaphas Cain? Do you want to do your part for the Imperium while skipping those 20 hour hiver work days? Are you still able to bear children? Then come on down to the Medicae instead of sleeping and see if you too could be the mother to the next HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!"
The idea came from seeing a "The Office" meme about Jan going to a sperm bank and saying its doners were very exclusive. Then I recalled a news article about some anon 6 foot + blonde Olympian swimmer who had good academic credentials who had apparently "fathered" hundreds of children through donations then applying it to 40K. The basic idea being that a successful attractive man will always be desirable and the inquisition could pull this off really easily without the high lords of terra even knowing until they were ready for gene implantation.
At which point "oh hey it's Guilliman and he's got that new primaris geneseed and a desire to bolster the forces of the imperium and add new chapters galore!" I wonder how long a chapter of the sons of heroes of the imperium would take to get approved? 10 seconds? sweet. I mean worst case scenario: They say no. OK you now have a lot of potential Stormtroopers, commissars, and battle sisters geared up who are either stealthy OR not suicidal.

Hey I saw your shiny Decals on that tank so here a good tipp, how too let look them better:
1. Paint Gloss Varnish over the place where you want the decal
2. When its dry, then put the decal on that place
3. When the decal is dry, then cover it up with another layer of gloss varnish.
4. Seal your purity seal spray, this will made the gloss varnish effect be gone away. Alternative you can use Games Workshop Eavy metal medium or Vallejo decal thiner over the gloss varnish part.
I just mix some PVA GLUE with water to matte them down :)

After the world is fortified, no one wants to attack it. The Fists get bored standing on the battlements, so they go to a new world, and get to build walls WHILE being shot at! It's a win-win!
Absolutely. Much more exciting being combat engineers in the heat of battle than dying of boredom in static defense. Depression is a serious problem in the chapter (though not as much as the Dark Angels. Those guys really take the fun out of everything).
Would stirland mud work for white scar tanks as well?

Mix metallic silver paint with a dobble of desired colour. or paint detail silver and over top apply a glaze. add some top coat and you're gtg

Use silver colours like leadbelcher or stormfang steel! Using stirland mud makes practically no difference. Didn't Valrak basically say this?

Mate, something is wrong with your Black, on the flat panels.
Dunno if it is only on camera, but you might want to add another thinn coat :D

@@ChapterMasterValrak never wash over black, thin some browns or whatever else and put it in the recesses if you want dirt on it... the washes are close to semi-gloss as finish (enough wash applied carefully can make some really nice effects because of that, tho i can't really see it being used for vehicles, it's good for organic stuff), unlike the matte bases and layers, and it really stands out as you can see
I once had a single falcon in 3rd and 4th edition.
I would apply battle damage exactly in the way it got destroyed, did you manage to get a double 5 with a lascannon?, well, I would melt a hole through it, crush it with a monster or dreadnaught?, the real life foot of gork would be applied, and as horrible as it sounds, it was relatively still intact and hey, I hated tanks, foot eldar was the way to go.
Not that I was a brat, but I would have a standing thing with anyone who could kill it properly would get a cookie from the subway next door and I would damage it in front of them, I never cared about the mini's, I was more interested in the people and having fun, it's was a reason why I would actually get games qued up, I was damn good at the game and was there for the fun, not "that" group around the painting table who always had a case but never got a game.
Wouldn't the mud be flying AWAY from the Repulsor? I mean the Repulsor field is so strong it even blows charging infantry away from it.

Do what you find fun, but I think some chipping and mud makes a tank look like it belongs on the battlefield. Maybe get a crap plastic toy tank and try some of the techniques.
Go for it. I did mine. Dusted the bottom with pigment powders for a desert look + silver chips as in this video

Could. Modern day hovercraft might be a good model for what happens when a repulsor vehicle goes over mud.
For me that's not about "battle damage", just mere chipping effects.

Same concept, but dabbing a sponge and dragging a brush have different patterns. Try it!

That's not a 40k tank. 40k died with 8th edition. That's from a glorified card game for stupid people.
