Jonathan Rhys Meyers is an excellent actor to choose for this show. he is good at delivery, have a swagger about him that show that THIS MAN IS NOT TO MESS WITH. hope this character give us alot of OMG moments
2:53 (Heamund's ultimate goal:) "To die gloriously in battle, and be seated at the right hand of the Father" Wow JRM does a superb job of showing how Heamund and the Northmen Vikings are motivated by the very same ideal: fight and die a brave warrior in order to receive eternal honor from God (supernatural higher power)
Meh, I always thought the Islamic vision of martyrdom was always more similar to Valhall anyway. It's also fairly similar to the pagan Turkic myths of Uchmak, which is probably what convinced my ancestors to convert back in the 1300s.
Heahmund is the natural counterpart to Floki- both driven, smart, unique, loyal to their reigning monarchs and deeply spiritual- for them God or Gods are a natural living breathing part of their everyday lives. I feel if you introduce an agnostic or atheist to them their reactions will be strikingly similar.
Anirban Bhattacharya. prediction floki will become a great mystic. He will find magus teaching him the great work. Magus will be the son that kills Lagertha in perplexing manner.
@@falconsawcon1978 -- The main issue here is Buddhism's roots are in philosophy and not religion. I'd have to say Anne Boleyn! It was so nice to see her portrayed so sympathetically, whilst also capturing her intelligence and ambition. She actually came from my home town and round here we have streets and cafes named after her! So perhaps I am a little biased!
At least Hirst is completely transparent about the fact that his characters aren't historical. Not that the show was ever meant to be completely accurate in the first place, which is (for some reason) a common criticism.
True, and he does incorporate historical truths as well as some claims that are pretty substantiated (Vikings venturing as far as the Mediterranean, a Viking named Floki discovering Iceland, etc) so I don't see a problem with it. It's better than a lot of other History channel shows in that aspect.
I always knew one day I would see Jonathan in Vikings, due to it being created by Hirst. Who better to refill the void left by Travis? He has the same capacity for acting and he is on point everytime.
Finally a warrior character in the other side of the table, I mean, Aethelwuf sure is a fighter and at least tries to be a commander, but he was never a real threat to the Lothbrooks. Rollo was a vikings commanding a french army, so in the big picture it was just another viking enemy just like Volg and others were in their moment. I think Heahmund can give that sense of urgence we lost after the great heathen army invaded Wessex
JRM ABSOLUTELY GREAT ACTOR ALL OF TIME! I LOVE HIS MOVIE ESPECIALLY THE TUDOR AND DRACULA. NOW I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING THIS MOVIE VIKING AND EDGE OF THE WORLD!
"We are the servants of god, and the messengers of his justice. We are the instruments of his divine wrath on Earth. We are called upon to cleanse his Kingdom bringing Ash from the Flesh of thine enemies. Praise to our Lord!" Paladin Alexander Anderson
Good move to cast Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I've enjoyed Vikings, but with Travis Fimmel' s departure from the show, and without what he brought to it, I honestly feel the show is lacking. Most of all the other actors are horrible and really wouldn't mind if they were all killed off. Rhys Meyers will hopefully bring something greatly needed to the show.
Jonathan is a fantastic actor. I've been a fan for years, before the Tudor years. However, I do think there are other good actors and actresses on the show that bring entertainment value. I'll miss Ragnar's character but I'm hoping there'll be a twist and he will still be in the show. He is definitely another fantastic actor. It would have been nice to see him and JRMs character go up against each other for a few shows.
Agreed. Ivar is a cruel mongrel with a strange voice -- well David Hogh is Danish, so perhaps correct. Bjorn is overacting. Heahmnd is the best looking male in the whole show. I liked Ecbert and OF COURSE Ragnar. Rollo started looking odd after he went to France. The long hair --- normal haircut. Vikings has an amusing feature, the hairstyles. They remind me of the Australian darts player, Simon Blacklock who looks like the cricketer Brett Lee with dreadlocks.
When all hope seems lost for the saxons due to the viking invasion, my first impression of this character was he's gonna be like their saviour adding strength to the christian side against the skilled viking warriors.
Sherborne is my hometown. It's nice to hear it mentioned on a show like this. It's just a small market town in Dorset now but it was the original Capital of Wessex before Winchester. Two of King Ecbert's Grandsons are buried in Sherborne Abbey.I'm grateful to have so much rich history on my doorstep.Maybe Wessex should secede from the U.K.& become an independent Kingdom again.😆👑👑👑
I have thought with the lose of Ragnar that perhaps the show was doomed. However, with Ragnar's son , mostly Ivar and Bjorn, stepping into bigger roles and the addition of JRMs I'm having a change of heart. Ragnar is and will be my favorite but I'm keeping an open mind. I hope we aren't disappointed. So ready for this season!
I find it interesting that one of the sexiest characters on Vikings is what would today be considered a religious extremist. Those of you who dislike Catholicism should probably not watch this show, and maybe switch to something that reflects modern secular values like Real Housewives. Heahmund does not come bearing peace, but a sword!
You Islamophobes are a bunch of delusional bigots. Templar Knights had actual honor, they didn't just kill because they thought that ALL Muslims were evil, they had a duty to fulfill and at the end The Muslims took Jerusalem and the Templars made a pact with Muslims and made peace.
"I needed a new character in the show who could at least inspire some hope in these dismal times, when all the saxon forces are splintered incapable of responding to the Great Heathen Army..." Alfred. That is literally what King Alfred the Great did during the Great Dane invasion. Should've focused on that, making Alfred the largest than life character that he was, than making him the boy king in the show that he was portrayed as and giving all the glory to this fictional character.
He's unfortunately had substance abuse problems in the past. Perhaps, hopefully he's found a place of peace and that's why he seems so chill. He's also notorious for getting into character and having a problem getting out of character. He revealed these things in an broadcasted interview some years back so it's not misquoted. An interesting fact is he invested in real estate and other holdings at an early age and is very wealthy in his own right, without his acting credits. Very smart man.
It reminds me of the character of Dracula he played in the television series Dracula for a season or two. Great show and I was disappointed when it was cancelled. Unfortunately, it wasn't promoted properly.
Watch Knightfall, Mondays at 10/9c!
Jonathan can carry a series. He was BRILLIANT in the tudors. Man am looking forward to this:)
Agree
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is an excellent actor to choose for this show. he is good at delivery, have a swagger about him that show that THIS MAN IS NOT TO MESS WITH. hope this character give us alot of OMG moments
And he is extremely gorgeous...my goodness what a hunk...
He was amazing in the tudors as well
@@lizkimani9576 Correct --- he is STUNNING!
excellent dans the tudors! great!! vickings saison 5 magnifique!!
❤❤❤
Jonathan Rhys Meyers is so underrated he needs to be in the MCU or DCEU he is just too talented to be overlooked like this.
I agree. He is one of the most intense actors we have. I actually think he may just be too good for MCU
yeah jonathan rhys meyers should be captain britain!
@@markkevinapalisok3680 Nah. He would have made a better Dr. Strange
Jonathan ryhs meyers is actually a relative of mine i only just found this out
He's a warrior priest
With Ragnar and Ecbert gone it was time for a new favorite character... YES!
True, but nobody can replace ragnar.
Ivar
Same
My favourite. Getting rid of Ragnar was stupidity. Ivar is hateful. Heahmund kind, good, gorgeous. No wonder Lagertha has the hots for him.
Now he is dead 😂
2:53 (Heamund's ultimate goal:) "To die gloriously in battle, and be seated at the right hand of the Father"
Wow JRM does a superb job of showing how Heamund and the Northmen Vikings are motivated by the very same ideal: fight and die a brave warrior in order to receive eternal honor from God (supernatural higher power)
thats a little bit ignorant

Ah the resident angry atheist
Our faith does not demand we fight and kill to get a God's approval.
Bulldogsbob, I don't think he's an angry atheist. I think he's an angry neo-pagan

Would you kindly elaborate Vishja?
Floki is a muslim-lover
Good comment.

Crazy about Jonathan. He's a fantastic actor and I'm so happy to see him back on television.
Love him since The Tudors 😍
I loved him in Gormangast too
Great Character. Hope he will stay alive.
SPOILER:
Heahmund will not pass this season alive,I think. He died in the Battle of Marton between Alfred the Great and Halfdan Ragnarsson.
in the trailer you can see ivar return to kattegat with his sword so he will probably die
Heahmund will have a fight with Ivar, and since Ivar is destined to kill Lagertha (which happens in the last series), we know the winner, this duel
he died 871 i think
Fu'Shao Baine Plus Aethelred
I have to admit his seriousness and dedication to the role has me excited for the English storyline.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers will always be A list actor, he is 1 of the best, a brilliant awesome gorgeous actor and again may I say gorgeous!!!!!🏆😍🤩👍🏻👍🏻💯🏆
You can really tell he has a deep understanding of his character, super excited to see this guy in action.
finally some Jonathon Rhys Meyers!!!!
To die gloriously in battle and to be seated at the right hand of the father, ultimately he's not very different from the vikings
Jeph Willi Its What he says in the interview. He says that he start to understand that the two cultures is not that different.
All religions = copy > paste
Jeph Willi He protects his country, whereas the vikings are invaders.

Not really. So Buddhism is copying Christianity ?
I mean by believing in a god isnt copying its beliefs.
Jesus h Christ your logic makes me cringe.

Thumbs up if you're a huge fan of the Tudors 💖
In truth, I still miss that show immensely. I wish they had at least shown Mary becoming Queen, or even tried a prequel with Henry VII.

Just re-watched 5x15.... absolutely beautiful episode, i miss Jonathan Rhys Meyers still!
i Love him, his character & his acting
He could preach the Bible like a preacher
full of ecstasy and fire
but he also was the kind of teacher women would desire.
I hope he will show some "tudor" behavior xd
Michael Hirst also created that show.
Michał Kikowski i believe he is ragnar son
I remember what he played the Sneaky Cassandar in Oliver Stones Alexander, what a perfect actor for that role.
Love him ❤️

Bishop Heahmund is very inspiring.
He. Is. So. Handsome. He's an awesome historian too guys 👏🏽👏🏽
well..its a known fact that THAT is by far the HOTTEST bishop ive ever witnessed in my Life
Jonathan Rhys Meyers- 👍👍♥️
He was an awesome in the Viking series and the BEST Henry the viii!! And he is Gorgeous and an tremendous actor!
He was one of my favorite characters in the series. 🙏
So... basically the Catholic version of Floki?
Matt Quarry exactly!
No, he is not a muslim-lover
Yeah the Crazed/Conflicted Fanatical believer in their god and Hatred of other Religions vibe that we loved.
Floki = Heahmund
Floki turned Muslim at the end of season 4.
You sure? He still seems to be in the norse religion looking at season 5

Великолепная работа Джонатана! Изумительный артист. Всегда завораживает!👍👍👍👍

Sorry for the misspelled words. Ughhh!
After Ragnar was killed off, I was going to stop watching. I have persisted, so glad since JRM is in it.
RIP Bishop Heahmund
I can’t wait to see him out on the field fighting in York. He seems really stoic we will just have to see how he interacts with the Vikings.
I would watch Vikings only for Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Jonathan such a beautiful man, please quit drugs! Seriously, quit the drama.
Go watch August Rush.
Why do I get the feeling that Rhys was extremely sad while filming this interview? He looks like he's on the verge of tears.
