Saw him in person on a flight from London to LA. I knew him immediately because his eyes were a very shimmery clear blue and he had a tan....STUNNING. He seemed very sweet. You tend to see a lot of celebrities on overseas flights. I remember his eyes.
That man is one beautiful man..... But he is also a telented actor and I really hope that he will get better soon and live a life were he feels good and will be happy.
Ever since ''Tudors'' this dude has been 1 of my favorite actors of all time. It took Jesus for me to get off the alcohol, I don't know his believes & its none of my bizz, but I know he can get better too.
I love this man not only as an actor but as a musician also. It is great to see he has gotten over the problems in his life and has learned from them and turned his life around. He should be so proud of himself. I can't wait to see the projects he has lined up for next year and I'm looking forward to there release.
Love that talented man! Watch when he's not being interviewed: no ear-pulling or restlessness whatsoever. He is always very, very nervous at interviews. Hope he's doing well!!
I've actually never heard him speak in his native accent before. I've only ever heard him speak in an English accent. I shit you not, I'm Australian and the more I listen to Irish people the more I realise how much of an influence they've had on Australian culture.
Irish and British have had the most influence definitely. Though 100-150 years ago we wouldn’t even be talking about U.K. and Ireland as separate countries they used to be part of the same Union of countries for hundreds of years until Ireland became a republic
I went to Ireland for Spring break/holiday and the people were so sweet and friendly the taxi drivers had conversions with us and told us about the country.
JRM, you are gorgeous, talented and possess a wonderful Irish accent and heritage of which I am sure you are incredibly proud of and rightly so.. balls to the negatives!. Cannot wait for Dracula tomorrow night!
My God you people who think he's on coke because he talks fast need to get a grip and become more cultured! We in Ireland generally do talk with quite a fast pace, I understood every word of what he said and he articulated it very well, wasn't distracted from what he was saying or by the manner in which he was saying it until Jonathan Ross brought it up.
Same here! I completely understood everything he said and you are right we do naturally talk with quite a fast pace. Some people need to grow up with silly comments like he is on coke because he talks fast
EXACTLY. These are the judgemental folks who want to point fingers at anything. My brother inlaw talks twice as fast as this and he's a devout Christian man, certainly not an alcoholic.
I have watched this interview a hundred times. I love the fact he's Irish, he talks fast,he has nervous energy. What a lovely Soul. If they think that was fast they REALLY need to go to the Virgin Islands for a bit. The wonderful people of the Virgin Islands speak so fast it sounds like another language but it's english. Jonathan deserves respect for the amazing things he has accomplished in his life. WE all know he doesn't like interviewing, he actually seems rather shy about it. His life wasn't easy yet like the phoenix he rose from the ashes. Are we as humans so busy trying to find something wrong with a good person so we can knock them down that we fail to see the beautiful Soul that he actually is. Shame on everyone for their negative comments. If you believe him to be so bad, why even bother? God Bless the Irish, they are all lovely people. Yes, I am biased my great-grandmother came here from Ireland, but I HAVE NEVER met an unfriendly one...
That's how I remember IRISH men to be and TO TALK. Full of energy (JRM might be on some additional "speed" here?) and very kind, very funny, full of words, big smiles. They are very special indeed. And JRM is surely one of the most gifted actors of today. I do hope he'll stay healty, happy and will be on screen for many more years to come.
Thanks for uploading this. I was speaking with my dad this morning (he is in England and I am in Canada) and we were talking about the new series Dracula. He mentioned this interview of Jonathan Rhys Meyers on Jonathan Ross so I was happy to have found it.
Ok, everybody get off this "drug" thing! Jonathan is a brilliant actor and person.....he thinks fast 'cos he's smart! Irish people speak very fast with their beautiful accents.....Jonny is brilliant, smart, a genius of an actor and he talks fast. Leave him alone, he's trying to be a better person, and he's wonderful!
I'm Welsh and if me and johnathan got talking he wouldn't have a word in, let alone the last word lol. We would get along because we both talk and FAST. He is a terrific actor, I did notice not once did he look directly at JR when he was talking?? Why is he hiding? I hope he has sorted himself out now, best of luck to him. Need to see this gorgeous man in more films/ TV roles 😍
Irish people tend to speak fast there is nothing out of the ordianry there. And his ear touching thing ... well maybe he's nervous. Everyone has a nervous twitch some more noticeable than others. But please don't say he's on drugs during this interview it's really sad
I agree. Just because he had a troubled past doesn't mean he has a troubled present. I've seen him in other interviews and he also appears to be a quite neurotic/ nervous person. Don't judge people :) (BTW looking gorgeous as always)
heartsXkisses24 He IS VERY NERVOUS wow..... This is my first interview with Johnatan that I watch and his manner of speech scares me a bit: fast pace, no emotions, no intonation - that all seems quite unnatural (to me). He's a very good actor though.
+zen He is very good, this is coming from someone who is not even a fan, do check him out in match point and tudors. Those are the only 2 works I have seen, and they were quite good
I think Jon is just a bit nervous at the beginning. He does start to slow down and seem more comfortable after a minute. People are SO critical of him - no wonder he had a drinking problem! I think the man is getting himself together and we need to let him, instead of judging.
I've seen a lot of comments about him being on coke during this interview but honestly, and I'm not tying to condescend or patronise anybody, I go to Ireland at least once a year for a period of time and you should hear them talk, it really is a fast paced nevertakeabreath kind of thing, so I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he's on coke, it could very well just be the way he is.
I love JRM fantastic actor. Him, Robert Sheehan, Ruth Negga, Aidan Gillen, Saoirse Ronan and Brendan Gleeson give me inspiration to continue with acting and make me damn proud to be Irish. Brilliant man!
Watching him in the tudors incredible actor didn’t know he is from Ireland 🇮🇪 so cool to hear his accent and he has such a wonderful personality irl He is now one of my favorite actors. I also loved him in Match point. Now I want to see more if his works ❤
The man has been in and out of rehab, struggling with alcoholism. A failed attempt of a suicide, on a over dose of pills. so you say that because he's Irish it's normal? don't blame it on his heritage. show some respect.
God bless him and that is so sad and heartbreaking to hear because he is such a wonderful actor.. I pray that he is able to get clean forever and if he so chooses to continue acting, to do it. Alcohol, and illegal drugs, & suicide are just the worst things. my brother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after drinking way too much and for too long. He was suffering from depression as well and it's devastating for family!
He does seem a little chatty, and I have heard about his drug use and suicide attempt. To me, he just seems nervous. I really hope that he is getting his life together. It would be a shame for his life, and talent, to go down the toilet.
I think he's just nervous here especially talking about his past. The whole tone changes when he talks about his work, excitement is there. I'm 1/2 Irish, visited Ireland and a lot of Irish people talk fast, no big deal. Also, I love his natural accent, we don't get to hear it often enough.
I enjoy all his interviews more than his better than bloody good movie scenes. Overall, he’s an excellent conversationalist who conceptualizes to a high degree and beautifully expresses his thoughts with metaphors. He seems to be very well grounded through early education and life experiences. His soul appears to be one of sincere meaning, evidenced by the exceptional talent and deep passion conveyed in every role. His ability to carry huge roles at a young age is unmatched.
I love this man! He is so handsome but aside from that he is highly intelligent and so interesting to listen to! Love him as Dracula and as Henry VIII!
exceptionally gorgeous n talented.. enjoy him in all his films... he has far from hitting his peak yet..n he will forever be a handsome man n intriging to watch...lovvvve this man
To people saying he's on drugs..YOU must be on drugs. This was a totally normal interview. The ear pulling is probably a nervous tick. Who cares. He's an unbelievably talented actor and seems to be a happy dude. He's funny too. Quit hating.
I don't know why people are saying he looks like he is on drugs, he looks great. If you think he must be using drugs because of how fast he is talking, then 95% of NYC must be on them too. What impresses me is his accountability for his actions and his eagerness to change. Alcohol is a VERY hard addiction to break.
He was on drugs for awhile and he was suicidal aswell. For a moment I was wondering if he was still on it because of his pulling of his ear hes really twitchy but he probably isnt. Hes soooo chatty though.
I love JRM, I've always thought that he's a good actor and definitely easy on the eye. I recently watched 'Belle du Seigneur' and found that as with most adaptations the story fell rather flat. However JRM's acting and intensity managed to anchor it somewhat.
Ha, gas all these comments about him being high! Maybe possibly too much coffee, but this is actually a perfectly normal way to speak in Ireland, we're just very enthusiastic!
He looked & sounded soooOOOoo uncomfortable - nervous & coked off his head. Talking 90mph. Nervous fidget. Looking down all the time & rarely making eye contact. He could be so charismatic if he would allow himself to be himself!
yeah... if that was "super relaxed" I'd hate to see him tense! Haven't seen Dracula yet but looking forward to it now after your amazing recommendation :)
***** They just want to make shit up because all they can ever talk about and see is Jonathan's alleged suicide attempt or drinking problems etc. They're OBSESSED with it. Silly and sad, but true.
HE ISN'T HIGH if he WAS HE WOULDN'T MAKE EYE CONTACT!! FACT! JUST A confident fast talker!! I AM ALWAYS being accused of BEING ON something because I SPEAK VERY fast BUT I'm FROM MOTORCITY!!
Jonathan Rhys Meyers "Doppleganger" (look alike) lives across the street from me here in the U.S.. He is also 5'9". The resemblance is strikingly identical. The only difference? he's 20 yrs younger and just a tad heavier looking in the face. He even has the same personality characteristics/habits as if twin brothers, just born at different times. I shit you not!
Although I still love the film Velvet Goldmine, I have always wished Jonathan had been cast when he was 30 years old instead of 21. Could have been such a different interpretation of the role.
Remind you of another Irishman who can really talk and beat his demons? Colin Farrell. So happy he did it and he's got another hit series on his hand, Dracula. Which he also produces...well done Johnathan.
He is either very nervous or high as a kite. A troubled soul, according to recent reports. A fine actor nonetheless, and I particularly admired his performance in Woody Allen's Match Point. Jonathan Ross assembled quite a guest list here, including Steve Coogan and the stars of Downton Abbey.
extremely nervous, probably on the verge of a panic attack. The fast talking is to keep your mind off the fear of being interviewed and having to make an impression in front of the people watching you. Take my word for it, it takes one to know one. I know exactly what he's going through.
I thought the interview went well.(UK Supporter) Just happen to finish so soon. Which is understanding, Jonathan did not have much interview time really. Enjoying the new Dracula very much Jonathan, its grand. Love to see you back on your official Twitter I am sure a lot of us would. too. Looking forward to part 4 ; ) Why is America in front of us with the Dracula series, I do not understand
LOL, seriously, with this question? Um, because an American network is producing the show. And the show is set in London England so not quite sure what your beef is.
Personally, I think a lot of Irish actors and celebrities play on their Irishness when they appear on chatshows. They come across as Irish X2, feeling a need to conform to a stereotype. Saoirse Ronan is another example. I have no idea as to why they feel the need to go into overdrive! Btw, I'm Irish myself.
Saw him in person on a flight from London to LA. I knew him immediately because his eyes were a very shimmery clear blue and he had a tan....STUNNING. He seemed very sweet. You tend to see a lot of celebrities on overseas flights. I remember his eyes.
Angie L stunning boy. Very troubled though
He’s absolutely gorgeous
Angie L Omg he is so gorgeous and love those eyes.
Coral Rain He was I don’t know if Jonathan still is.
Wooooow lucky you, I wish I ever met him here in Iceland! :)
That man is one beautiful man..... But he is also a telented actor and I really hope that he will get better soon and live a life were he feels good and will be happy.
He talks so quickly! I was surprised. But he seems extremely lovely and beautiful. Bless him. :')
Such an amazing actor , I can’t help but still see him as Henry :)
Ever since ''Tudors'' this dude has been 1 of my favorite actors of all time. It took Jesus for me to get off the alcohol, I don't know his believes & its none of my bizz, but I know he can get better too.

Underrated series needs a second season for sure!

I love Jonathan, such a talented actor :)
He's amazing actor. I like him when he was in The Tudors. I wish he's in The Reign on CW.
That would be quite a downgrade
JRM, you are gorgeous, talented and possess a wonderful Irish accent and heritage of which I am sure you are incredibly proud of and rightly so.. balls to the negatives!. Cannot wait for Dracula tomorrow night!
Shows fucking badass he plays a great dracula
My God you people who think he's on coke because he talks fast need to get a grip and become more cultured! That's how I remember IRISH men to be and TO TALK. Full of energy (JRM might be on some additional "speed" here?) and very kind, very funny, full of words, big smiles. They are very special indeed. And JRM is surely one of the most gifted actors of today. I do hope he'll stay healty, happy and will be on screen for many more years to come.
he's one of the most beautiful men ive ever seen and matches his looks w/ wit and brains but he seems like he's on some stimulants here.
Thanks for uploading this. I was speaking with my dad this morning (he is in England and I am in Canada) and we were talking about the new series Dracula. He mentioned this interview of Jonathan Rhys Meyers on Jonathan Ross so I was happy to have found it.
Never have I laughed so hard "Do you breathe through your ears?!" lol

i hope he is managing to stay sober. he has battled so hard with addictions.
He is an actor he was supposed to be able to control himself
heartsXkisses24 He IS VERY NERVOUS wow..... This is my first interview with Johnatan that I watch and his manner of speech scares me a bit: fast pace, no emotions, no intonation - that all seems quite unnatural (to me). He's a very good actor though.

I think Jon is just a bit nervous at the beginning. He does start to slow down and seem more comfortable after a minute. People are SO critical of him - no wonder he had a drinking problem! I think the man is getting himself together and we need to let him, instead of judging.

The man has been in and out of rehab, struggling with alcoholism. A failed attempt of a suicide, on a over dose of pills. so you say that because he's Irish it's normal? don't blame it on his heritage. show some respect.
he relapsed and od'd. It wasn't a suicide attempt.
He wasn't trying to kill himself. He was going through a lot and he over did it. And he admitted that he went overboard.
rockmom h AGREED
God bless him and that is so sad and heartbreaking to hear because he is such a wonderful actor.. I pray that he is able to get clean forever and if he so chooses to continue acting, to do it. Alcohol, and illegal drugs, & suicide are just the worst things. my brother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after drinking way too much and for too long. He was suffering from depression as well and it's devastating for family!
Montre' Louise Bohon-Harris I think he is clean now cause Jonathan is married and has kid.
he's an actor that deserves more than what he got .. he's as good as any oscar hollywood actor if not better !! bottom line he's epic
He does seem a little chatty, and I have heard about his drug use and suicide attempt. To me, he just seems nervous. I really hope that he is getting his life together. It would be a shame for his life, and talent, to go down the toilet.

Omg his accent is fab!!
❤ Jonathan ist ein großartiger Schauspieler und ein interessanter, Wunderschöner intelligenter Mann ❤❤❤
I love JRM, I've always thought that he's a good actor and definitely easy on the eye. I recently watched 'Belle du Seigneur' and found that as with most adaptations the story fell rather flat. However JRM's acting and intensity managed to anchor it somewhat.
My First Favorite Actor for EVER :)
I noticed when he is nervous he touches his ear😁
is he a bit nervous or uncomfortable, as he keeps pulling his ears? But he still is cute and charming. You have to love him.
He was absolutely superior in his Henry 8th 👏🏼👏🏼
Why has Dracula not had a second series??? It needs one!!
Wow Jon .R Meyers looks pissed at the end
He's on the blow
He's just so alluring it's crazy how attractive he is it just doesn't make sense
IKR!? I thought I was the only one with that opinion.
Omggg he is Irish! :) Loove
He could be so charismatic if he would allow himself to be himself!
i agree with you.
yeah... if that was "super relaxed" I'd hate to see him tense! Haven't seen Dracula yet but looking forward to it now after your amazing recommendation :)
***** They just want to make shit up because all they can ever talk about and see is Jonathan's alleged suicide attempt or drinking problems etc. They're OBSESSED with it. Silly and sad, but true.
HE ISN'T HIGH if he WAS
HE WOULDN'T MAKE
EYE CONTACT!! FACT!
JUST A confident fast
talker!! I AM ALWAYS
being accused of BEING
ON something because I
SPEAK VERY fast BUT
I'm FROM MOTORCITY!!
Ooh we need a picture
*****
I would, but I don't think I can put his picture up here. Or I don't know how. :(
Gyhh v
Great actor..... an amalgam of accents...personalities & fun !!
Although I still love the film Velvet Goldmine, I have always wished Jonathan had been cast when he was 30 years old instead of 21. Could have been such a different interpretation of the role.
Lol this is sooooooooooo funny lol
He loves Scarlet... He looks identical to King Namor. Marvel bring him into the MCU
Ooooohhhh!!!!!! You hear that JRM?? Lol. I so agree.
PiazzaGurl Marvel cannot drop the ball with this casting he's even Irish lol Namor is Irish lol he was born to play the King!
Remind you of another Irishman who can really talk and beat his demons? Colin Farrell. So happy he did it and he's got another hit series on his hand, Dracula. Which he also produces...well done Johnathan.
hes so handsome and a great actor :)
He could be a good teacher haha love the way he speaks
He should be the one to play Christian Grey.
Need season 2
I forgot he wasn't british he does the accent so well
He is either very nervous or high as a kite. A troubled soul, according to recent reports. A fine actor nonetheless, and I particularly admired his performance in Woody Allen's Match Point. Jonathan Ross assembled quite a guest list here, including Steve Coogan and the stars of Downton Abbey.
He's Irish we talk fast
extremely nervous, probably on the verge of a panic attack. The fast talking is to keep your mind off the fear of being interviewed and having to make an impression in front of the people watching you. Take my word for it, it takes one to know one. I know exactly what he's going through.
He doesn't do do interviews well. And this one of his newer interviews after having a breakdown. But he normally talks fast.
H
I was hoping that Jonathan ross would mention the Tudors )=
5:07 ...Hilarious !!! Love both the Jonathans here... 😊
he is so nervous.
I cannot see why.
But he is great ...
It's good to see the guy smiling for once, in a recent interview.
I thought the interview went well.(UK Supporter) Just happen to finish so soon. Which is understanding, Jonathan did not have much interview time really. I loved him in Bend It Like Beckham and August Rush.
He's so lovely ❤️love his accent such a great actor he was brilliant In The tutors also
He hates interviews! He keeps touching his ear, and when he got called he looked like he was called to the principal's office 😊
love him as valentine in mortal instruments, and also love him as a vampire also ♥ :)
Personally, I think a lot of Irish actors and celebrities play on their Irishness when they appear on chatshows. They come across as Irish X2, feeling a need to conform to a stereotype. Saoirse Ronan is another example. I have no idea as to why they feel the need to go into overdrive! Btw, I'm Irish myself.
what part of ireland is he from? his accent is so...different? never heard his real voice before as he usually plays british
Wow, the blonde woman was in Robin Hood!
Rob James Collier: "It's misunderstood." lol Very
