    I think the reason why they made the exterior a fixed camera was so that you could always see death mountain in the background, they probably wanted players to see the ring of fire once you become adult.

    The one thing that makes me a little sad is that I've never seen anyone go properly into the bottom left of the Temple of Time Exterior, I want to see the iron ball on the other side of the staircase which is much closer to the camera, the reflection on it is so good.

    • @JepMZ
      @JepMZ ปีที่แล้ว

      It's obviously not supposed to be in view.

    • @Ashley6100
      @Ashley6100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JepMZ That's kind of the point, in all the playthroughs of this area I have seen no-one ever swings the camera around enough - it's not in the "obvious" view so it's like a little visual secret. I have a GIF version of the area texture and the reflection on the "hidden" ball looks amazing, I would just really like to see how it looks in-game.

    • @JepMZ
      @JepMZ ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've seen it already. The ball is just to test the renderer's capabilities and is put out of bound since it's not meant to be part of the environment. And no one who played the demo all those decades ago mentioned there being a ball. The final version also have "out of bound borders that can't be seen ingame

    • @Ashley6100
      @Ashley6100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JepMZ
      I'm not totally convinced the left ball can't be seen, at 0:43 the ball is only a little off-screen and Link is still away from the left fence and up from the bottom left square planter. Based on the way the camera follows Link in this version of the area, I feel like if you ran down to the bottom left, hugging the left fence and just above the planter you'd at least be able to see a bit of it. But again, that's my point because I haven't seen anyone go into that corner to know for sure. Besides, the other ball on the right hand side is obvious and clearly visible so anyone playing the demo decades ago would have seen that one at least.

    • @getgle
      @getgle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was being developed for the N64 Disk Drive. When the N64DD flopped they reworked the game to fit a tiny cartridge.

    • @Hyperlingualism
      @Hyperlingualism 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@getgle That's not accurate. The 64DD hadn't flopped by that point since it hadn't even been released yet. OoT released in Nov '98, the DD wouldn't release until over a year later. OoT did start development for the 64DD, but it was reworked back to a cartridge because a cartridge would read faster. The planned file size of the game was actually doubled over the course of development from 16MB to 32MB, not reduced.
      You may be confusing it with the "Ura Zelda" unfinished sequel to OoT. Ura Zelda was developed for the DD too, then the DD flopped and Ura Zelda was reworked into Master Quest for the Gamecube.

    • @getgle
      @getgle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hyperlingualism damn that's crazy
      I had no idea that cartridges were able to fit more space than the original disk drive.
      It's weird that they made the game look worse without a technical reason

    • @Hyperlingualism
      @Hyperlingualism 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@getgle It was more about the data transfer speed than the file size. The 64DD definitely had more capacity, maxing out at 64MB, while standard 64 cartridges were usually between 4 and 32, maybe maxing out at 64 but at the time the 32MB OoT was the largest sized game released for the N64 at the time.
      The problem was the rate at which it could transfer that data to console was 1/10th of what a cartridge can do, but while it was only 1/10th of the maximum size of the CD-Roms of the same generation from the PS1, which can hold 600+MB. My opinion is that it was a middle ground that was too little too late.
