      I like it aswell but I think it was right to remove it in the final game. A crt Tv wouldn’t be able to really capture the fluidity of it any ways. Good thing they axed it for better frame rate

      All the OoT Sages were named after towns in Zelda II. I'm guessing they changed Mido for Impa late in development

      @@Space_Australian But in the end, perhaps Mido's decendant ended up as a sage? Or his sister Fado's decendant? Or Fado just went and became all male-like later on? I'm speaking of Fado the Wind Sage in The Wind Waker. They do have the same name... Saria is the Forest Sage, and since Impa was given Shadow, Wind went to...Mido or Fado? Mido makes more sense. He was more relevant than Fado who just teases you a couple times.

      From concept art, Sheik was originally going to be his own character. He was most probably Mido, Sage of Shadow. When the character was cut in favor of Impa, the name was given to the Kokiri bully. Shadow Temple was most likely the last stage before Ganon, but in the end they made it so you could choose it or spirit. Functionally and plot-wise, he would have the same role as Sheik, teaching you songs before being revealed as the sage of shadow.

    I just noticed that the 3 spiritual stones look like the musical signs for flat and sharp, I'm not sure what the green one is supposed to be, but It's interesting that they look like that and they're right next to the learned songs! Also I just want to say that if someone made a new Ocarina of Time and were able to implement all of the beta stuff and make clever puzzles and stuff, I'd buy the F out of it

      @@jamesmkay the stones were originally going to be placed into the Ocarina of Time instead of onto the pedestal (you can see the red/green/blue dots on the OoT in this vid). So that's probably why they are shaped like music stuff

      My guess is they originally had a much larger range of notes playable on the ocarina (maybe all 12?) but scaled it back for simplicity, this would also explain why you have so much control over the ocarina's pitch for no real reason.

    The little stream area running through the Temple at 8:40 looks better than in the final version, what with the little ferns growing next to the water. I wonder if those were cut from the final version for performance reasons.

      Either that or maybe they were visually confusing, too. The stream is kinda narrow in the middle and the ferns are cluttering that area, almost feeling like a barrier. Maybe they got bad feedback in playtests. Probably the same with the light shafts from the windows which I really love: I can totally imagine some playtesters assuming they had to reach those windows because the light made the windows look important, and they were stuck figuring out how. It's exciting to think about all of that, really wish I could have been there lol

    First old games were returning due to (re-)remakes, then randomizers, then beta versions people found... it's really cool!

      I think Wind Waker kinda gave us the Wind Temple, complete with a Kokiri. The irony is Wind Waker may have picked up a lost dungeon and and discarded two of it's own. Not sure we ever found out where they went

      Maybe Mido was a different character in the beta. They got sage names from the Zelda II towns, and Impa was the only sage not named after a town, but a previous character. Mido and Kasuto were the only names left out from the sage list in the final game.

      @@--i-am-root I'd suspect he was probably the same character, it somewhat makes sense story-wise as it feels like even in the final, there's... *remnants* of him being pretty intrinsically linked (heh) to Link's growth as a character in a similar way to Saria. The way he locks you out of the Forest Temple for a bit suggests that he wasnt just intended as a one-off bully for Link to lock him out at the start of the game.
      My personal theory is that very early in development, the Forest temple may in fact have been the site of the Shadow temple, with the Wind temple being somewhere entirely different (perhaps even where the shadow temple would end up being!).
      Think about it; the primary gimmick of the shadow temple is the hover boots and multiple fan rooms, and the forest temple has you chasing after ghosts to unlock the boss room where you fight a phantom of your biggest enemy and perhaps, even your greatest fear. It feels pretty fitting to me if their aesthetics were potentially swapped prior to release.

      @@GoodGirlPeruru Good points. I was already thinking about the fan gimmick in the shadow Temple as I was reading your second paragraph, but never considered the Poes or Phantom Ganon in the Forest Temple. That would have been interesting to get more development from Mido.

    I think some aspects of this is better than the final game. Mechanics like the different medallions and arrow combinations are just so cool!

      Apprently medallions were supose to use magic like shown here, but the magic aspect was scraped because of the n64 hardware limitations when Ocarina of Time was moved from 64DD regular N64

      Was it...? Hm... I'm trying to remember... I recall the originally-planned story having a temple in the forest that was important for something... Link saved a captured fairy. Maybe that was forest temple. But then why is it so late in development? Maybe they scrapped an older one by this point? It was the Wind Temple after all. I don't see any wind happening...
      Oh... But then again, was that story before or after they added 10-year-old Link? I wish we had a time-line of all the changes.

    When I was a little kid I always thought that I could use medallions because of their icons which are similar to those of the objects that can be wielded by Link but just couldn't find a trick to use them all.
    I was far from suspecting that I was right and NINTENDO, THANKS FOR GIVING ME FALSE HOPES 😭

      There are so many ways to cheese things in both N64 zeldas even in the final versions that I doubt they would've been able to really disable them or think about them or even eventually intended you to use it, leave the option open to do so or something in those lines

      Shadow was meant to come after Spirit so the ability to cheese the Gerudo's wouldn't have even been possible
      Also Spirit Medallion turning You into a Fairy feels like the idea evolved into Young/Adult Link gimmick in the final game now that I think about it

      @@TheGameCreator13 well that is if that was the intended order, the Dampé race got altered and put way further into the beginning as well. it's also not impossible to do shadow without the lense of truth, (which you need to even reach spirit, too) so it isn't out of the question either which is by the way also the reason why the game checks for spirit and shadow medaillion for the light arrow check, if it was impossible to obtain the shadow medaillion before the spirit one you'd only have the game check for shadow. Lens also is the only thing stopping you from beating shadow is lens but you can get that in BOTW xD
      Ocarina of time isn't a linear game, you can change up the order pretty often. you can do water or fire before forest. Jabu jabu before dodongo and shadow before spirit. the roadblocks you face are always just medaillion triggers. I think the water fire and forest medaillion are needed to trigger botw.
      Seems like they haven't changed much about that aspect from beta to final. only a ton of maps perhaps.
      Maybe you're mistaking this because of the location you find Nayru's love in.
      But yea Spirit medaillion kinda captures that idea.

    this game would have been immaculate if it kept this simplicity and style, instead they wanted to simplify and then over complicate stuff EHM water temple, completely flat land with 0 breaks in the players path, "advanced" enemy AI and more weapons.
