    If you live in a state where they do emissions testing you can also take the radiator cap off start the car hold the probe near where the cap goes and see if you have any hydrocarbons . This test will pick up the smallest leaks.

    Hey Oz,
    You don't need to throw away the blue test fluid after you use it.
    Just use the squeeze bulb to suck clean fresh air through the green/yellowed fluid and it will turn back to blue, ready to re-use, then pour it back into the bottle for next time👍

    I think that's a GREAT IDEA using the misfire counter after the engine was run up to operating temperature, then cooled down for 30 minutes, then using the misfire counter test the engine on startup. GREAT IDEA!
    I gotta send this video to some former coworkers to show them this.

    After you pumped up and pressurized the system, would sticking a bore scope down the spark plug hole show a leak in the cylinders?

    You can actually dump that fluid back into the bottle and it will clear up after awhile so you can reuse it for so long. Eventually, I believe; you can’t reuse the fluid. That’s in reference to the blue fluid in the bottle that you help by pulling the air out of the overflow canister through the blue fluid that turns green to yellow if/when the combustion gasses mix with the fluid. Of course you know this Oz; but some viewers may not. Great video as always brother! Appreciate it!
    Soli Deo Gloria~

      I actually found out the pouches actually go back to yellow after leaving them out in open air

    • @simonilett998

      The blue fluid can be renewed back to blue and returned to the bottle, no need to throw it out.
      Just draw fresh clean air through it with the squeeze bulb to turn it back to blue, then pour it back in the bottle👍

    • @KendrasEdge757
      @KendrasEdge757 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OzMechanics nice! Makes sense though when you think about it, but the pouches look set up like that so most people will think they’re disposable and buy more every time. Maybe I’m wrong there lol, but yeah that’ll save some money too.

      @simonilett998 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KendrasEdge757I meant the comment to be here, not the main page.
      My point was you can regenerate the fluid back to blue, by drawing fresh clean air through it, then return it to the bottle to re-use.
      Whereas, your comment said you return the used/discoloured fluid back to the bottle and it will eventually return back to blue.
      Which is not 'saying the same thing' as I said at all🤣👍

    What I like best about the second, blue dye test is the ease to prove the dye is working. Get a straw and blow human breath into the dye. It should go yellow. That test measures dissolved CO2 in the air pocket above the coolant inside the pressurized reservoir or radiator. There's plenty of CO2 in your breath.

    • @simonilett998
      @simonilett998 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@spelunkerd Even better is green or yellowed fluid can be turned back to blue and reused, simply by drawing fresh air through it with the squeeze bulb and reuse it or return it to the bottle for next time👍

    Another test to do with the pressure tester is, with a warm engine, pump tester up to 5psi.
    Do a stall test and see how quickly it rises.
    Obviously combustion pressure is way more than cooling system pressure.
    If coolant can get in to the cylinder, combustion pressure can get out.

      Question. If you are replacing the head gasket are you doing a head job ?

    • @mechtechtools77
      @mechtechtools77 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OzMechanics I would just send the head out to machine shop to be pressure checked, checked for cracks and flatness. I worry if you pressure cooling system and there's a big head gasket leak or leak gets worse from the pressure and the cylinder fills with coolant and you bend a rod when you crank it over. But I'm guessing the starter wouldn't have the power to turn a hydraulic engine and it would be an okay way to test. When I was a tech I would sometimes use a 5 gas analyzer to check for hydrocarbons will engine running with rad cap off. Anyways great video. I never saw the first test before so I learned something new
