Hi Nev, these are the facts from the VFA website, you can check yourself but if course you will delete this comment. The scientific fact still remains.
Estuary Perch are the ONLY species described by the VFA as "Under exploited" and there is ZERO commercial netting pressure on them.
They are present in 78% of vic waterways and overly abundant.
When you catch and release, 10% on average will die.. this is scientifically proven so you kill 10% of Estuary perch you catch just for thrills..
Here is the VFA facts
"Few anglers are adept at fishing for and catching estuary perch. Stocks are greatly under-exploited and provide opportunities for a very rewarding fishing experience. There are good numbers of large fish with mean length of fish captured by the Department being 32 cm and averaging 500 g in weight. Their eating quality (flavour and texture) are superb. They can be confused with Australian bass"
Our fishing club is going to write the VFA to increase the bag limit to 8.

5:23 a metric bucket load of fish either side of the lure here. Not such clear water but the fish are visible. Epic stuff. Haha I spoke too soon, hooked up moments later….. 🎉
9:45 that’s super amazing, the sheer biomass of Estuary Perch in this system is mind boggling! There must be thousands in every hundred metres of mangrove edged shoreline. A reminder everyone of just how vitally important it is to preserve mangrove habitat, every one of those fish was born in amongst a mangrove root system. Mangrove habitat is under threat across Australia, every new housing development or tourist attraction near mangroves usually means their removal. It’s not smelly mess, it is fish breeding habitat.
