Yes Johnny was soft spoken but his guitar playing was at the other end of the spectrum.
Loud, screaming and whailing. He also made his guitars sing. His fingers did all the singing as well. Your fans love you Johnny me included. RIP and God Bless.
Man that's one of the most beautiful being that ever walked in this earth , to me Johnny is just the whole pack put together , the blues , the country and the Rock and Roll , and he was albino , to me he's the one .
There is not one single day that I don't think of him with the deepest respect and love for his music and legacy .
I listen to his music everyday, I love all his stuff but from 80's to about 99 he was godlike. I really regreat not going to see him live, almost went back in 2012 :(

It’s interesting how he reflects on his early, voracious appetite for ALL blues recordings...BUT didn't initially focus on the early country blues, it was the electric blues that 1st captured his attention. Ironically, I too, was much the same, but as my tastes & listening experiences deepened, my love for the early pioneers of genre, truly grew. He speaks from the heart, very intelligent, (Tommy Shannon insisted that BOTH Johnny & Egar are not only musical virtuosos, but intellectual geniuses).

IMHO... Johnny was the greatest guitar player of the past several decades, maybe ever.. I sure do miss seeing him play..really the greatest to see live. Just incredible skills.✌️❤️😁

I followed Jonny's journey the blues since I was just a kid! Being born in 1956 I lived through the best music EVER! Jonny is and will always be my favorite! I fell in love with the blues in the 60s before it became mainstream and cool!

I am mesmerized by this man's super riffing, and also his deep feeling!....and he knew, hung out with, and recorded a few tunes with the most iconic player of all, Jimi Hendrix!...The sheer talent, and dedication to their art, will stand the test of time....in an odd way, Hendrix and Johnny just had to happen at the same time....it was a cosmic pairing of unique musicians!
Fantastic person, humble and vise and thankful against the people who loves he’s music. R.I.P Johnny.

If given the choice of hearing/watching any single musician play and sing solo on a beach with no power, Johnny would've been number one, just ahead of Paul McCartney. Saw JDW ~ 10 times, just the best and most versatile (blues/rock/country-tinged jazz, etc.) singer/guitar slinger combo of all-time, IMHO. R.I.P. Johnny

Being from Brazil start to like music at age 14,listen to Jimi and was hooked in guitar right there. Led me to Johnny and is an instant became my hero,start buying his albums and the love kept growing.My girl gave me a dog,got him and when asked how would name him , said his name is Winter.Little did i know how the name fit my dog,as he grow from a pup to his size race,,english pointer in a way was much like Johnny. So much energy,fast could outrun any dog,jump so high,even dive head in the water to pick up heavy rocks in the ocean.Moved to the States and saw my hero three times live during my life.Also because of him got a treat to see Muddy Waters at The Roxy on Sunset Blvd.Loved the man and the musician...RIP my hero,sure miss you

Johnny Winter during the Alligator records years, great interview.
Got to see him several times in the 80s at smaller rock/blues clubs and the smaller rock stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Despite his ability, he wasn't filling up larger venues like so many lesser talented acts. Could never get over seeing this small, frail looking guy take the stage and put out that magnificent smoking electric blues sound. Glad I got to see him when he was still with us and so saddened to hear of his passing.
His studio version of highway 61 is one of the best slide playing ever recorded , go johnny!
Johnny Winters was ....just one of the most important influences on a young 14 year old boy...I treasured his influences on me through out my own musical career!

In the summer of 1969(I think), I saw saw BB King and Johnny Winter in a small bar, with psychedelic light show in downtown Cleveland, call the Uphoria. Buddy Miles backed them up on drums. The following year Johnny Winter headlined his own show in Cleveland's Severance Hall, with his famous Rock n' Roll Hoochie Coo and others!

Great interview. Johnny is more revealing than I've heard him before. Still haven't heard him say why he covered Stones so often. I figure it's because they popularized the stuff he already knew and loved. And Mick and Keith soon knew that. They were white boys bringing it back, but Johnny was there all the time.

You make a good point...Johnny in his earlier years was not the most revealing person to interview...I think his major tussle with heroin and alcohol during the 70s brought him down for awhile....but then he just got it together even more so after that dark time!..As a forever fan of Hendrix, I wish Johnny could have expounded more than he did, as to his thoughts about Jimi.
just recently found out about JW within the past month or so. what a cool dude! i could definitely listen to him talk all day; such a relaxing guy. :)

Yeah, but those intricately finger picked songs from those old guys was a true art form. Very difficult to catch on to. Appreciate the hours and love of craft they put in. Folks more into the electric sound these days.

Huge fan of Johnny Winter! I decided to try a Gibson Firebird because of him and it turned out that I really loved it, it has some really hot pickups and it's a big guitar, the neck, the fretboard, all much bigger than any other guitar I played, which suites me fine.
He was a treasure indeed. I wonder what was in that cup...

@@mr.pickles1410 He did, and he had some talented company!...It seems that, after Hendrix died, his contemporaries became self-destructive....several big-names...Page, Bloomfield, Lennon, Winter, Clapton...all seemed to want to blot out their pain, for whatever reasons...most recovered, but some did not!
