Winter was in his own category. With his guitar prowess and singing combined he was a powerhouse virtuoso but don't be too hard on Bo or his limitations because those simple rhythms he created are the chassis of R&R that Johnny took to another level.

Johnny W.: One of THEE BEST singing electric blues/rock guitarists ever. The Best top 5, to me, (in no particular order): Johhny, Lonnie Mack, Roy Buchanan, Terry Kath, Jimi H. Diddley's not even in the top 300. 🙂.

Johnny winter is the best rock and roll blues guitarist that have ever plugged in. Have you ever noticed how all the so called guitar gods from over the pond all ways avoid Winter. because they know he makes them look weak. All of them . Johnny Winter may only be second only to Hendrix but maybe not. The only show I ever got up and walked out on was Bo Diddley.

I have so much more footage i took and more rare footage in my collection. Much guitar type music, that few have. I have Eric Johnson at the Beacon Theater in 1991 or 2 doing "Spanish Castle Magic" with two go go dancers in 1960`s look to them dancing on each side of the stage. Eric does a killer version. At that period he won Guitar Player Magazing best overall guitar players three years in a row. No one has ever done this before. He was a true guitar hero at that time. He and SRV ,Steve Via, Joe Satriani was bring back guitar players to the for front again. But when the leader of that movement with his mind blowing tour of In Step. He loss in a helicopter crash to the momentum, of the guitar hero movement. It was so sad to the picture. Also Clapton with his Journey Man tour was also another big time movement. But SRV was the man at thelead of the movement. When the king was gone, it was never the same. SRV RIP, he was to young to lose. Looking back there was great acomplishments. The footage caught by fans video cameras saved these amazing shows forever. SRV St Louis 1990 show dressed in red, was a classic. The 1989-90 SRV tours were so mind blowing. These time are now considered historic for the fans.

In the mid 80's, GP put out a magazine called "Texas Guitar" or something like that. It was a one issue thing, featuring SRV, JLV, EJ and BFG. Johnny Winter wrote the foreward. I still have it around here somewhere... maybe I'll dig it out. But I remember Winter sorta put everybody else down but himself... particularly Stevie and Billy. He said Stevie was all flash, and no substance and that Billy wasn't very good and he sorta learned to play on stage while getting paid for it. So maybe that was fresh when SRV was asked, who knows.

The wikipedia article on SRV, under "Musical Style" gave this explanation, citing Mary Lou Sullivan's 2010 biography of Johnny Winter, Raisin' Cain, as its source for the information:
"Vaughan's relationship with another Texas blues legend, Johnny Winter, was a little more complex. Although they met several times, and often played sessions with the same musicians or even performed the same material, as in the case of Boot Hill, Vaughan always refrained from acknowledging Winter in any form. In his biography, "Raisin' Cain", Winter says that he was unnerved after reading Vaughan stating in an interview that he never met or knew Johnny Winter. "We even played together over at Tommy Shannon's house one time." Vaughan settled the issue in 1988 on the occasion of a Blues Festival in Europe where both he and Winter were on the bill, explaining that he has been misquoted and that "Every musician in Texas knows Johnny and has learned something from him"."
