I'm 17 hours in. Those first few hours were kind of a trial-by-fire. Having to replace and repair and figure everything out. But after that it started getting smooth and easygoing. Docking becomes second-nature trivial, batteries and stuff really don't need to be replaced all that often as they did at the beginning (when stuff was already wearing out to familiarize you with it). Fuel stops are just a routine part of your trip. You become able to smoothly swoop through debris fields without taking damage, although you'll prefer the freeways because that's even more relaxing. The payouts are very slim though. And you do get to more challenging areas with more hazards to dodge or deal with. But the routine stuff does become routine and a non-concern pretty quickly. Mostly just cruising and relaxing to the music. So then it does feel like a truck sim, just with some occasional interspersed bits of other stuff to do besides just hauling.
the simple fact that i had a battery blink at me and i didn't know where it was until i saw this video says enough in my book.. i never made it out of the first tutorial missions.. the misery of trying to fight the controls was enough for me.
This is not a survival game, survival game is made so you have a chance for survival. In this game you don't. You gonna end up living broken in a space homeless shelter.
Thanks for keeping me from wasting time on this. I'm a trucker and I like looking at trucking games, but this one sounded like a job, not a game. Unless they add blasters and pirates 😄
Wow... like an actual trucker? Thanks for doing that - helps us regular folks get our... pretty much everything. If you want a space trucking job with blasters and pirates, Elite Dangerous might do it for you.
This game is not about escapism, it's about showing you as a player what the world of AMERICAN trucking is all about. How people struggle in unfair conditions and have been dealt a shitty hand and being exploited by everyone and they do their job for 40 years and die poor and desolate... It's not a "fun game" it's taking a stand about social injustices. Not every game has to be about escapism...
If they wanted to take a stand about social injustice by making a trucking game, they could have saved themselves a lot of money and just made a documentary instead! I also never said every game had to be about escapism - I suggested that I play games as a form of escapism, not as an investigation of the nature of social or capitalist systems.
I actually did notice that myself. You have to choose between being able to see your gauges and controls, or see space. But I guess that's not too far off from driving a regular car in real life...
I was looking forward to Euro Truck Simulator in Space. To Elite Dangerous but without the combat. Unfortunately, the game has too many things that I don't like. Like the battery management.
If I could ever have gotten out of debt to be able to afford the expensive batteries, I wouldn't have had to manage them so much (another commenter suggested this). I just couldn't suffer long enough to get there.

So you're saying you have to endure the extreme misery to get to the point where it can just be boring and routine? 😀

I would say that I was glad I helped, but it sounds like you bounced out, so uh... you're still welcome?

OMG savage.

Saw this in my recommendations, was hoping it was an adaptation of the board game, which is chaotic and funny. Sadly this sounds like the opposite.
I didn't realize there was a board game! Is it any fun for 2 players?
@ only ever played four player. It’s a tile-grabber board game, so don’t know how well it’ll play 2 player. It’s nothing like this video game, sadly.
Ah. I like board games but it's usually just my wife and I. It's somewhat uncommon for a lot of euro board games to work in 2-player 🥹
holy shit that cab should way higher cant nothing at eye level
