Starfield was fun to me for the first 12 hours. Probably when I'd seen just how shit the main story was. So I had a reverse-experience but ended at the same conclusion (eventually)
Most of my favorite games are like that though. Some may not require 100 hours, more like 50 hours is more common, but some games require way more than 100 hours. I do play mostly difficult games so basically it's just practice before you get to enjoy the games mechanics with some competence, but there's a charm in that journey to building that skill so it's not completely awful in the beginning, but it's nothing compared to when you get there. Also it's not just about skill in every case, but grinding the gear or whatever you need to get to the interesting content.

There’s a reason TB (rip) focussed on first impressions. You can tell a LOT about most games with 10 minutes of post tutorial gameplay. Very few hold their surprises until hundreds of hours later other than MMO or new game plus (and those games devs are usually shouting from the rooftops about just how clever they are). Economise your time, a simple 15-20 minute of relatively uncut footage from early in is more than enough for most of us. We don't expect to agree on everything, but thank you for the valuable service you provide in sifting through endless piles of AAA dog**** that pass for £70 entertainment these days, lol. Or are we in the era of quadruple-A titles now!? A good rant is the least catharsis you deserve! But also, you've pointed us to loads of gems that'd otherwise fly under the radar. Keep it up!

Seeing that shot of the ship coming out of the jump gate and seeing the station and traffic ect with the planet in the background at 01:46 .... I had a really big stab of nostalgia from playing Freelancer xD Man I really need to reinstall and play that again!
I like and look forward to your new schedule. You have helped me alot when choosing games and I am sure this will help even more. Good luck and thank you.
Still one of the best channels on TH-cam. Thanks for saving lots of money and giving me loads of laughs....would be cool to see another stream of leathal company with a bunch of mods! I know it would be pure gold.
I approve. I think there are games where it takes some time to figure them out and see if they're going to have longevity... but there's also plenty of games where if you hate it after an hour, you're not gonna stop hating it if you force yourself to slog through it. Games that you really love or hate after 15 minutes are pretty much set in stone. Games you're unsure of are the ones you need hours to play through and see how they evolve as you go. This is especially true with many games being on gamepass these days. If I download something and get bored in 30 minutes, it gets deleted and it's not likely I'm giving it another chance. Too many other choices out there to try.
My brother basically despises TH-camrs of all kinds but I got him into watching your reviews every time he wants a game. Even got him saying “is it worth a buy?! Let’s read the words the words” every time he searches for a review. you’re the only reviewer I watch even though I still just make my own decisions, I value yours. Best of luck in all you do from the 🇺🇸 😢
I'm totally onboard with all the changes! Cheers! That being said, there's a game I've been anticipating that was recently released called "Solium Infernum". I would greatly appreciate it if you gave your two cents on it since there's a lack of non-developer-sponsored content on it.
Makes sense to me to try and do more and even some added indie titles is always welcomed! And right on to give a game a bit of time before your thoughts compared to a ton of hours to say, "it's okay." But we trust you, Mack. And don't overload yourself on too many titles!!! Rabbit might not forgive you! ^o^
This does look cool, I do get the Euro Truck vibes out of it. Speaking of Star Field, I knew years ago back in 2018 when it was announced that it wouldn't be up to the standard. I knew this guy who was raving about it everytime we talked, he just wouldn't shut up about it and was saying it was gonna be the next big game and there I was shaking my head; never once did I get onto the hype train about it. My first thoughts were just that it's gonna be shite and people are gonna expect too much out of it and it's not gonna deliver with how ambitious it sounded. Now a days I wonder what he's thinking about it.
I am a fan of the change of direction. While I have absolutely no problem with the length of the reviews thus far, the idea of more frequent albeit shorter reviews covering a wider berth of games is greatly appealing given how many interesting indie games there are out there.
I see the concept, have tried the demo also, not bad, but theres not too much to see in space, kimd of just drifting, they nailed the truck sim experience quite fun. Challenging also, got to get used to those space lanes, great vid , and whatever direction you go in us lot will be watching . Good to see another north easterner grinding 💪
Glad to hear this Mack. Simply because more content from you is always a good thing. You don’t need to play a game for 50 hours to form an opinion on it. A good game (let alone a great one) should have your attention after 30-60 minutes.
Great change. For several of your recent reviews, I’ve been left wondering, “Mac, why are you doing this to yourself. Just stop.” For me, the best value of your channel is alerting me to new indie games that might otherwise fly under the radar, so I’m glad you will be able to cover more.
Honestly don't understand why it's so hard for people to get that reviews are other people's opinions. If someone doesn't like a review, it's not the end of the world or an attack. I don't get why people are so damn offended all the time. You do what you need to do Mack, love the channel and I'm excited to see where it goes. Also, really excited for Star Trucker. I love that there are actual buttons and switches that move that you interact with.
First of all, thank you for all the work you have been putting throughout the years, I have been subscribed to your channel for at least 6 years if i remember and will be subscribed for the foreseeable future. You are right, a review is just someone's opinion and should be taken as this, however when you review a game you also give information and sometimes you can misinterpret something in a game and as a result derive a conclusion and might give incorrect information to the viewer which can be misleading. I think your recent helldivers 2 review had this issue. I understand the changes you are making to the channel and at the end you should do what you feel is best for you and your enjoyment, but remember that the less you play a game, the greater the chance that you might misinterpret a feature or a detail as well, its something to keep in mind. I wish you all the best and I write this truly because i like this channel and this is the only channel i watch for reviews, and I'm gaming for more than 20 years now.
Love the new direction as long as they are "shorter" videos as you say. It's great to have a quick ~4 minute look at a game you may dislike just so we can learn more about it.

I hope the changes you're making for your channel are to your liking and help you keep producing videos you enjoy.
I feel like this is in the same universe as Hard Space: Ship Breaker. Ultimate crossover opportunity!
You can space walk to fix your truck? This is what I was hoping Starfield would include!
You seem to latch it to the same way you repair the cyclops in subnautica. Find the leaks, hold a button.
They thought that gamers walk enough on the barren planets, no need to let them additionally walk in space
You can space walk in X4 Foundations, but then you get the situation where you've stranded yourself without realising... I've found.
@@xeviphract5894 That's why you always hire crew for your ships, including the one you're currently in. Then you will never have to worry about being stranded.
@@xeviphract5894 I love the immersion X4 gives you when going out to space walk. You feel unprotected and small, and yes you could get stranded if you're not careful, and that's how it should be! You're out in frickin space lol!
Whatevers best for you, is best for the channel Mac!!!
Keep on truckin!
I am guessing you will still do longer reviews for the "special" games? I am not much into shorts, but you have to do what's right for you and your channel.🙂
Yeah absolutely, I kind of said that in the vid, some games require a long play session, most don't.
Good news, wise changes. Like an 11years old wine that aged nicely with his audience, still my favorite after the long ride that seemed short. Keep it up, your opinion will always matter for those who really like this channel. Personally, except a rare few, your opinion guided me darn well when it comes to the main question; "is it worth a buy..? is it? IS IT !!?"
luv your work, keep banging that bell!😂
The new format sounds good! My mates and I (we're all in the 40+ crowd) are constantly referring to your channel as you've become our canary in the coal mine of modern gaming. Keep it up!
This new direction for the channel is definitely a good thing mate .
Looks interesting. Good luck with the channel and thanks for everything so far.
I think I'd like to see the wider range of reviews you're describing. Thanks for the great channel
I'll support this channel Whatever changes you make mate.
"Every review I've ever done is right." - Mac
Before Mac covered your favorite game:
"you're the only honest reviewer"
After: 😡💢
that doesnt matter to me, If I like a game, ill play it even if Mack or shill reviewers say its bad, but most of the time I agree with Mack, like I wont touch Pal world, cos the balloons man, the balloons, I was laughing my ass off when Mack was attacking the Balloons with a base ball bat, I would do exactly the same.
Excluding his unreasonable hate for the Resident Evil franchise I almost always agree with his takes. One of the last based reviewers left.
@@Skrenjatbf he hasn’t reviewed that many re titles and the ones he has reviewed are mostly mediocre.
The argument is that since a review is just an opinion, any review is right. Sorry that you missed this part.
10 years you helped me dodge some real piles of shit. Thanks Mack!
If you’re going to review more indie games I am all for this. I’ve all but given up on 98% of “AAA” gaming, but I have found many indie gems through your channel and others. I wish you the utmost success, because I like your style and even if I occasionally disagree I ALWAYS value your insight and opinion. Keep on truckin’ pun intended!
i dont know if you've tried it before mack but i'd recommend Hell Let Loose. its come a long way and its incredibly immersive in that every squad member has a role to play in the winning of the match. and its got a very welcoming community
I F'ed up and bought post scriptum not realizing that hell let loose is the better game.
Man I just love your channel, the only gaming related channel I watch
Well Daymaker, I think you've got a good head on your shoulders and this new approach is a wise choice.
Best of health and luck, thank you for your time and work 🖖
Keep on with the indie games! It’s why I joined your channel! We have enough reviewers covering AAA games. Your indie reviews is what makes your channel desirable (to me).
I agree with changes you are going forward. No point waisting time on something you don't like from first 15-20 min of your time.
I enjoy your reviews. They are always balanced and detailed. Even though you may not like a game you take the time to highlight what others might like about it. I hope these quality reviews continue with your new format
Love your videos probably the only channel i literally get a smile on my face and click straight away when i see a new one... gutted there won't be as many long form ones but if that's how you want to go that's cool... Keep the content coming and all the best 👍
love that! I would prefer more but shorter content, too, so fully support your plan!
I will enjoy whatever format you employ! You are a true veteran and have my respect for delving into sh ite.
I am going to miss some of the most spectacular rants.. but looking forward to the changes :)
Mate, do what you like just don't loose YOUR style. Looking forward to the video length vs bell ratio going through the roof!
Awesome, I think it's a good idea to get better range and good because I found your perspective is often missing when I'm looking into a new game so good you will be covering more! :D
Ive been watching your vids since the Mack's Corner days like a lot of people on here and Id say a good few of us watch your vids just for you and your personality (and laughs that often come with it). So you do you mate and whatever works best for ya 👍.
I can dig it Mack, God bless you and all you do for video games.
Smart move, I kinda wondered why you hadn't been doing this. Looking forward to seeing the changes 🥃
Seeing that shot of the ship coming out of the jump gate and seeing the station and traffic ect with the planet in the background at 01:46 .... I had a really big stab of nostalgia from playing Freelancer xD
Man I really need to reinstall and play that again!
Im looking forward to the changes!
Watching for years, keep up the good work man
I like and look forward to your new schedule. You have helped me alot when choosing games and I am sure this will help even more. Good luck and thank you.
You do you, and thats fine with me! Simply Have Fun... :D
Still one of the best channels on TH-cam. Thanks for saving lots of money and giving me loads of laughs....would be cool to see another stream of leathal company with a bunch of mods! I know it would be pure gold.
"Shite confirmation" lol ...new format sounds great mate! I've sank so many hours in Vampire Survivors thanks to your review.
More Mack is always welcome!!!
Looking forward to it!
You're on the right path, Mack. Indie is the way to go. There's no hope for Triple-A or Quadruple-A.
Looking forward to the coming changes Mack. I'll be interested to see what games you review in the future.
Getting helldivers wrong took a toll eh?
You’re one of the most trusted reviewers. I got subnautica based on your review and it was brilliant. Keep up the good work, fella
I'm still trying to wrap my head around why it has a grill/radiator at the front and how that is supposed to work.
I'm fine with the changes.
I don't comment often but I like your content and the way you approach games.
IGN is not always just someone’s opinion. Often times publishers pay for better reviews or black ball you if you don’t give the correct opinion.
A good game (let alone a great one) should have your attention after 30-60 minutes.
as long as we still get plenty of rants and bell ringing i'm sticking around
Good stuff Mac, keen to finally see your opinion on... K E N S H I
If I get to see more indie gems that I might grab then this sounds good
I hope you're going to continue to create absolute bangers at least. Reps and Heat, BFG, etc. Those are very entertaining and hilarious.
Nice video and think it is a good move on your part. Wish you the best. 👍
Good idea Mack! Just make sure you visit some asthmatic hippos once in a while, just for the laughs! But YES for in depth reviews of quality games
I am happy for this change!
