This was an excellent video, the first few minutes might be the best explanation of what a clutch is, how it works and how to familiarize yourself with it. You guys knocked it out of the part again, this is why you guys are the best 4WD TH-cam channel there is period. Keep up the great work!!
Another tip: Learn to rev match when down shifting and double your clutch lifespan. Edit: Additionally many other brands that sell twin plate clutches come with the more common setup where the clutch housing is the flywheel. these are lighter and generally give you better engine response however installation is a a tiny bit more complicated.
One thing I don’t see mentioned in the video is disengage pressure required. More pressure holding the clutch plates together for better grip means higher disengagement pressure. This means more pressure on the thrust bearings inside the engine. This leads to crank walk and ultimately a blown engine. Be nice if they mentioned anything about it.
not necessarily. It depends on the pivot of the spring. Some HD clutches dont have any more disengagement pressure, but they do require more disengagement travel. They counteract the heavier spring with a different pivot point for the spring. Twin plate are great in this department. The one in my mirage is soft as a factory clutch but holds silly amounts of torque. Soft on the pedal = easy on the thrust bearings.
got one in my 2015 79 series now running for over 15000kms . I cant complain the clamping force is crazy on hills with the shit toyota handbrake . I just drop the clutch the. Uni clutch does the rest off the mark... Make no mistake this aint no cheap ass clutch its a good bit of gear . My factory was nice for what i did but this is next level and the best part is the pedel feel its a factory feel for a heavy duty clutch of this type. Bad knees no problem . Dont know how they achieved it im not a engineer. But kudos to who ever did . easy fitment great packaging good support . Times have changed since old days clutches long live the manuals .. ill be back when this one is done. 😊
Had a JDM HJ61 Land Cruiser with a vacuum booster on the clutch master cylinder. It was a leg saver during off-road and city driving. It's a shame other vehicles dont have this feature.
Heard some good things about these clutches from the few people i meet running them but still suggested skimming the flywheel before installing, i am still interested about them in performance applications as i have a bad knee and semi savior is a hydraulic bearing but still heavy with a twin which is kills me after awhile....think it could potentially be a good upgrade. I have 400k kms on my 2wd courier clutch that was used on a farm an daily driver, just about any other vehicle that i have changed the clutch doesn't survive long cause they don't make things to last like the used to even OEM stuff (150k kms for a life-time of a clutch in my books isn't long, its like shock absorbers they say 20-50k kms) yet i have an 80s car with oem shocks that are still fine when last tested and its done about 300k kms. Great review and thanks clutch industries
Have ran an exedy hd with single mass conversion in my tuned patrol for nearly 100k and its great, i quite like a heavy pedal feel!!!! These uni clutches do look good
What about flywheels the difference between duel-mass and normal and why the duel-mass flywheel is so expensive for something that is weak,, that is something I recently had to find out I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't know about the difference between flywheels
Bad driving habits like resting your foot on the clutch pedal, rough gear changes, poor Rev matching and regularly slipping the clutch are clutch killers. THIS CANNOT BE OVERSTATED. As a passenger, if you have a chance to observe many different drivers, you'll see how RARE, good driving is.
@@uniclutch appreciate the response! Your product looks amazing! I'm pretty much limited to expensive stock clutch in the uk, or import from japan haha.
I was interested in checking these clutches out for my modified Golf 7 R 500hp and 600nm torque. I tried use the website and I can see they have a part for my car (A track clutch) but its a nightmare to get any details from the site. One its slow and two it forgets settings you click and resets your selection.
I accidently overfilled my 1HZ by 1.3 litres of oil. I believe that some oil has escaped down the input shaft and onto the clutch plates. When I get to around 2000rmp in 4th gear, the revs increase suddenly, but I do not have any power and then it seems to grab and I restore power again. Very dangerous when you attempt to overtake someone, drop it back to 4th, commence the pass and you are suddenly travelling at the same speed as the vehicle you are trying to overtake and there is a car coming the other way.
Some of those engine options never came with a manual, but depending on what manual conversion flywheel you have, a UniClutch option could be available.

Cheers mate! Glad we could break it down 🤙🏻
Awesome video as always Jocko and 4WD 24/7 Crew.
Is this clutch on par with the kings winch? Wasn't that super too 😅

270 000 km on my van, clutch is still okay without rev matching... my consumption is also unaffected...
@@rayoflight39 Interesting, 270km on the original clutch?
Rev matching makes it more comfortable if nothing else.
Don't use the clutch, just use the syncromesh gears! JK!
@@Hunty49 I suppose the depends on how long you want that synchromesh to last.
Cool where do you get the uni clutch 😊
Thank you, good info!!
Then along came the Auto trans with a lock-up converter to reduce the shock loading on the drive-line and all was good in the world
Yep I have the UNI CLUTCH SPORT on my N70 Hilux and goes great 👍
Do you have any twin plate rattle?
We need a counter for how much jock said CLUTCH 😂 love your content jock keep up the great work mate

My stock clutch lasted over 330000 km before the release bearing crapped out

So do they got a clutch for a 87 Nissan pathfinder with a Z 24… probably not, but if u do🤷🤷 Plz tell me.
Can I use a uniclutch on a flex plate?
If the adapter plate bolts on it shouldn't be an issue
That’s smart engineering
This clutch addresses all the shortcomings we always had with twin plate clutches in the old fords 351gt’s
Well done

Hiya, what is the price difference between an OE clutch and a uni clutch?
Google
I got one of those clutches in my 08 ranger. Its a bliss to drive with. Feels like a 2 wheel drive car

my clutch burnt out after sending it out on a big hill lol. need to replace it
So I’ve regeared my Jeep from 3:21 to 4:56. Does that mean my clutch plate isn’t rated for the 4:56 gears?
No , it's OK.
Unfortunately in the USA less than 1% of people drive stick/manual, which means most vehicles don't even have a manual option.
yo am looking at buying a hilux should i get a gen 7 or the gen 8?
It would be cool if one would fit my 1995 Mitsubishi Pajero JR 😂 online searches haven't yielded any results! Excellent vid though guys!
Unfortunately, it is too large for that one :)

Can be fit on GQ tb42??
Yes, there are UniClutch options available for the TB42 Nissan engine
Cool

BRHU i only just thought to day "getting a little squeal when downshifting time for a new clutch" and this video pops up in my feed.
Does it fit between an OM352 and an UG3?
03:30 I suspect that Tony would not like that shot .Nothing to do with clutch wear.
The clutch in my 2003 Magna goes way harder than all of these. Been doing double peggers for over 20 years now.

1UZ, 2UZ 3UZ options?

What if I never used the clutch when speeding up?
Can I get one for my 1985 Nissan 720 with a SD25 diesel engine and stock 5 speed gearbox
Mate, you could teach at uni on mechanical engineering.
Mate the only shit or bad clutches in standard cars are the Toyota's they can't handle normal driving yet alone anything past that
i usually get 300,000 k out of my clutch ! bad driving technique will deliver less !
A Jimny clutch in a V8 Patrol hahaha how'd be stupid enough to d...... Oh wait. That's exactly what Toyota did 🤣
Yeah my crutch explodes often
Ci clutches are shit have snapped the centre out of 2 of them in 2 months in a bog standard 5L ln167 hilux they’re shit, Exedy all the way 💪🏾
Well looks like daul mass clutch...
