    Ah thank you so much! I was so confused because I can play the notes with the right fingering, but I’d play in the wrong octave, and I’d be confused if the fingerings I was using were off. That cleared my confusion. But I still can’t play the E in the second octave, the one on the forth space. It comes out sounding like the E on the first line.

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sometimes it takes a bit to get the hang of it, but keep on trying! It sounds to me like you might be pinching/ tightening your embouchure to get those high notes out. Try to relax your cheek muscles and instead of tightening to get the high notes, simply make your embouchure (small hole where the air comes out) a little bit smaller. Then blow a little harder to produce a thin but forceful air stream. All the while keeping your mouth relaxed. Let me know if this helps :) Make sure to check out my other videos that can help you. I have just started playing the flute and even though my D note sounds clear and focused, the E note sounds very airy ( 2nd octave) even though they are very close to each other. I tried different things but I can't get a good sound. Is the technique so different when approaching these notes or it might be something wrong with my flute?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is really great question. Thanks for asking. That third octave E has the “A” as its undertone. It sounds like you’re not quite blowing hard enough. Hi, I have the same issue. What I do now, is I play either High F or High D and go right into High E as a slur. When I do this, I hit it every time. Then, I will play High F and then High E separately.. I hit high E more often now. I have found the when I try to play High F and High E (or high D and high E) with the same breath using my tongue to separate notes, I have much more trouble. High E is very difficult. Your embouchure has to be perfect or it will come out as A.

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Izzy, there are a couple of reasons for the pinky on the foot joint (you've asked a good question). Some of the notes are out of tune if you don't use the pinky (even if you can't hear the difference yet, just do it anyway). Also, there are important things that happen with your balance when you use the pinky- this helps you have nice, clear tone. :) Come take the lessons in perfect learning order: learnfluteonline.com See you soon! ~Rebecca

    • @hellofriends2649
      @hellofriends2649 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your embouchure might be incorrect. In my experience, it helped to have a slightly more open embouchure (but be wary of tuning); as you may be a beginner, make sure that you aren't overblowing the low E.

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Great question. Yes, the notes on the flute can sound 'high' or 'low' depending on your air speed and fingering position. Most likely the reason you're hearing a higher pitch is because you're blowing harder than you need to or you have your lip plate tipped towards you too much. Blow a little softer and think 'warm air' and you'll get it soon. Thanks for asking! Happy fluting! -Rebecca

This is a good place to start in discovering mechanical issues with your flute. If your head joint plays well, put the flute together and start with the note C#, then C, B, Bb etc. all the way down the chromatic scale. Yup, this is not a bamboo flute. This is a classical/concert/transversal/silver flute. You'll like learning how to play it. :) Rebecca

      Wendi, great job! That is definitely an accomplishment and something to be proud of. The low E is a tricky one and will come as you continue practicing. So keep at it, I'm cheering you on :) ~Rebecca

    You do not have to leave your fingers like that you have to put them in there place

      Hi, I'm glad you realize this finger positioning is not practical. My fingers are placed this way for demonstration purposes only. Just so viewers can clearly see the fingers that are used. Happy Fluting! -Rebecca

    Thats a very bad hand position you never put your fingers on the botton of the flute. You always put them up against your keys.iam i the only one who cares about hand position here?

      Hi Eddie, thanks for pointing the hand position out. I don't mention it in every video, but I move my fingers out of the way so you can tell which keys are being pressed. I definitely don't play the flute with this hand position. This is only for demonstration so you can 'see' clearly what is being used. Thanks for asking for clarification. Good luck this week with your flute. :) -Rebecca

      +Boey Chan It's a squeaky note. Are you sure you're blowing the correct speed (airstream speed)? And, check your fingerings again. ~Rebecca

    It's a great video but sorta annoying how she skips between 1st 2nd 3rd finger sorta thing and thumb index finger, middle finger etc.

      Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you're noticing the different flute "lingo". Some people refer to the their fingers as numbers, and others get a little confused because the finger numbering is different than piano hands. Because of this we sometimes us the finger names as well. Glad you're learning to play the flute! Have fun with this note.
