    After many years of deliberation, and almost nearly buying a Stowa, I decided to go with this Hamilton as my new daily watch for the next few years. For me this watch has a lot of heritage as a deck watch in relation to the Hamilton Model 21 ship chronometer, which the US Navy used for navigation during WW2. Being a former American Navy sailor myself, someone who appreciates and is learning watchmaking as a hobby, and works as an astronomer these days, this is the perfect watch for my collection, and it has so much heritage and meaning for me that I find to be really cool. I only wish I could have bought this watch from Teddy Baldassare's store, as that would have been my preference even over the cost savings of the grey market. Thanks for the awesome video, and opening my eyes to this watch early enough on that I could save up to afford one!

      @balesjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'd prefer not to have the date window on mine, just because I really don't use it often and prefer the clean look without one. However, it doesn't distract from the overall design like some date windows do (like those that cut through or replace a numeral or indice).

    I've had this watch for a year now and I really love it! I don't see it as a sport watch at all, it is 100% dressy.
    This is an underappreciated underdog in the Hamilton collection, a very unique model that sets you apart when you compare watches with friends.

    The date window ruins it for me. Just a distracting wart on the dial and indicates the movement is too small in proportion to the dial/case size.

    Glad to see they went back to the 40mm. The previous iteration was a 3 hand with 43mm width. I have a moderately sized wrist but I had to get rid of it because that crown dug a callous into my hand. It was a shame, it was the watch I wore at my wedding. So happy this trend on over sized watches is receding, it has never looked good, even if the lugs did not hang over your wrist.

    I own this watch for around 5 years now. Very classy, well made. Just be careful: the lugs are very fragile. don't apply much pressure when changing straps. I managed to bend one, not easy to get it back in place!

    • @balesjo
      @balesjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the warning. I replaced the Hamilton strap with a Perlon quick-release and found it a bit harder to align the pin with the hole in the lug than with a standard-style lug. Was concerned the whole time about bending or breaking it.

    Gorgeous watch. I remember when the 46mm special edition came out back in the day.....on a gimbal...... very neat that Hamilton has so much history that can inspire them to create some unique offering......This is always a watch that caught my eye.... pretty unique.....just really well done for the price.....and I can live without the 80 hour power reserve... It has a solid movement.... perfect size....one of my favorite Hamilton's.

    I have owned this watch for at least five years. I love the styling and it is in my rotation. Like you said, it is in the middle ground between dress and casual. I dressed mine up with a brown alligator easy deployment band, and it is now far more versatile - while I loved the ruggedness of the high quality leather strap & while that strap works perfectly for casual, I wanted the flexibility to wear as a dress watch as well. The dial & wire lugs are unlike anything you will see on virtually any other watch. It is definitely retro. It sits high on the wrist, and the bezel can be a scratch magnet. That said, I have had mine buffed back to pristine on several occasions. Also, there is limited anti-magnetism with this movement. A metal detector can magnetize it. That is an easy fix as well. Demagnetizers are available on Amazon for $6.00. That said, the manner in which Hamilton has modified this ETA movement, has resulted in an accuracy that is dead on (1-2 seconds per day) when the movement is not magnetized. One should find a jeweler who can occasionally buff it and adjust its timing. This watch is totally worth it. I have Omegas, Rolexes, Tags, Cartiers, Longines, Seikos, etc…and many others….yet this watch, due to its uniqueness, still makes it in the regular rotation. I highly recommend.

    I have this watch with the black dial (though seeing the white dial, I wish I'd bought it). The strap definitely requires a break-in period to fit comfortably. I replaced it with a Perlon Quick Release strap as I have small wrists and need the additional flexibility to adjust the fit. Plus it saves the nice leather strap). The watch proved to be very accurate. It is a bit over what I consider the best size for my wrist (38-39mm diameter) but I grew to like it. Overall, I love the design and recommend the watch for those that find classic design appealing.

    • @anthonystevens8683
      @anthonystevens8683 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 'Murph' and love it. A new watch designed to look old and it's done so well, the hands are a matt finish outside the lume that just adds to the aged look. The second hand is etched with Eureka (from the film 'Interstellar' in which this watch features) in Morse code that is a nice touch The crystal does not have any AR at all but also adds to this old looking piece, some don't like it, I do. The lug wingspan is long as well but they curve down so fit's my 7" wrist with ease. You can't always go my the numbers. Try one on at the AD if you get a chance.

  • @stephenbridges2791
    @stephenbridges2791 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I am pleased that Hamilton went back to 4Hz on this piece. Personally, I would forego the longer power reserve for the smoother and easier repaired standard 4Hz. I haven't bought Hamilton simply because of the modified movement. Just my opinion, but; you are getting short changed if you get a 2824 modified down to 3Hz just so you don't have to wear/wind it as often.

    • @balesjo
      @balesjo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the Khaki Field Automatic as well as this watch, and since wearing the Khaki Navy Pioneer SS, I've developed a preference for the 4Hz movements. Can definitely tell this one, the movement of the seconds had is much smoother.
