they should just put an AC electric starter on the engine like they do with snowblower engines. or put a start port on the top of the engine like Craftsman used to do with their weedwackers so you can turn the engine over with a drill. carrying a battery on a push mower is dumb. once you get the engine running from an electric start, you can usually rely on easy pull starting for the rest of the day. Briggs actually used to have those AC electric starters on their small riding mower engines in the 1960s, which was VERY useful since pull starting a cold engine was much more tedious back then.

I had the newer model with the removable battery that you just remove and slip into a charger. It worked well, but the front wheel drive is worthless going up hill.

Save your money, buy a warrior 12volt or 18volt battery from harbor freight and then cut and put crimp connectors on tbe wires.

Yes that's why they have the pull cord.

I just test a ryobi 18v battery on one like this but older. It started but I am worried cause its 18v and the original battery was 12v.

The higher voltage may damage the starter, or the extremely high current draw may damage your battery. You need a 12V battery that can put out high current to the starter.
