    Have you tried yanking the recoil cord? Make sure the key is in on position.
    Should start in one or two pulls.
    THATS WHAT IT'S THERE FOR BTW

    Hmm, that battery looks a lot smaller than the one in mine. It has a BB Battery VRLA rechargeable 3.6-12, 12v 2.8AH/20HR which the Honda HRX217 will recharge (even though Honda does make a plugin electrical adapter, however a bit on the expensive side).
    Would you know if a ‘intelligent chargers) could recharge the battery OK if taken out for winter time storage?
    Thanks good video!

      It's a rechargeable battery so I suspect is should but I'm not positive. Removing it for winter storage will definitely improve the longevity of the battery.

    I think the bottom line is Honda put too small of a battery in this mower. Mine had 1.3 amp hours. I've been jump starting it off a 9 amp hour battery and it works great

    Dumb question but I’m a noob. Would running the lawn mower charge the battery like it would a car? Or is there no alternator and you would have to jump it every time?

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a great question because I'm not 100% sure myself 😂, I believe it does recharge the battery off the magnito because when I ran the engine for a few minutes the battery would start the engine a few times before it died again.

      The magneto does charge it. I have a HZA. Mine don't have charge adapter capability.

    Can't you just connect at the mower's battery charger connector ?

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This mower had no charger, charged by the magneto on the flywheel.

    Sometimes the battery shows fully charged but still not enough, what turns the engine is THE CRANKING AMPS Example: you could have a battery that the sticker on top shows 550 CA but only reads 100CA on the meter. Happened to me 3 times already.

    I just purchased a 217HYA 2 weeks ago. For the $1,210 this mower cost's it should come with the battery charger/maintainer that Honda advertises as an optional accessory. I looked it up and they want around $100 for it. That's absolutely ridiculous. It's simply an AC adapter that has a wire harness that plugs into the wires that run from the battery box to the engine.

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James, they get you coming and going but you just bought a machine that will last 30 years no problem. You can probably find a universal adaptor on Amazon that would work.

    Good job! I went in search of the sound my Honda HRX was making, thinking that the lack of starter engagement was a starter issue. I knew my battery (earlier edition) was old, and this confirms that I need to change it out rather than the starter. Much appreciative.

    That comes from the battery sitting around in a discharged state for too long and possibly in cold weather . The battery sulfates . Get a small floating charger and hook it up permanently while the mower is not in use . Once the battery is fully charged it goes into float charge and uses very little power to keep the battery fully charged . I have a medium sized charger on my ride on mower and the same one built into my 4x4 that does not get driven as much in winter . Nothing kills a battery quicker than to spend all winter in low charged state .

    how cool is this !!!! I didn't know the battery needed to be connected when jump starting an electric start mower. what will happen if its disconnected? My Battery only reads 4 volts after the mower was not used for a long time, And nothing at all is happening. so I Think I'll try this next , thanks!

      @@EddieCarrara1 I bought mine for 35 Eddie. They neglected to put enough oil and the connecting rod busted. Iypt broke piece off of piston, the governor mount base got distorted. Instead of replacing I straightened out but I paid the price because it would not stop running out of this world. I have ordered a new governor for it. Will see how it goes. TY for video.

    Cool, Eddie. Was that the battery that came with the mower, do you know? The OEM battery in my HRX217 is 2.5ah (yours is 1.3ah) and it is built differently; like this: www.themowershop.com/product/honda-battery-31500-vh7-b01/
    Reason I ask is because the mine is almost $100 to replace whereas I have seen several 1.3ah units online for under $20. Thanks.

    • @EddieCarrara1
      @EddieCarrara1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JJ, I'm sure you could probably use the 1.3ah battery it just won't have as much amperage and the run time will be about half as much as the 2.5, but it's only used for starting so I say give it a try and see how it works.
