The thing that sets Fantano apart from most other reviewers is his ability to articulate his thoughts. When he describes the sound of something, he actually identifies each element in the mix and talks about the texture, tone, timbre, etc. When I see people respond to his opinions, I rarely ever find someone who is able to paint as vivid of a picture of what they see in the music (positive or negative) as he does. Like how most people's response to him saying that something is bland is to just claim the opposite without actually trying to point out specific details. He has exposed me to so many things that I honestly had some pretty glaring internal biases towards, but his enthusiasm was so infectious that it was enough to change my perspective. Normally when my mind is changed on music or art in general, it's because of a personal experience that puts that work in a different context. He is the only person who has ever changed my mind on music with only words. That being said, he is still an asshole, can't take that away from him.
For me personally I get Fantano’s subpar ratings on all of Cudi’s albums cause he’s coming from an objective standpoint, but Cudi is an artist that really resonates with you on such an emotional level that if you fw him and his sound every project is great to listen to if you just want those up and downhill vibes like I love Passion Pain & Demonslaying cause everytime I listen to it I know Cudi’s really putting his heart into it love that man fr
Good idea for a video. For me, his take on AM is the worst he has on the channel, worse than on Dark Fantasy (although the recent one on Halsey is close too). I think the reason behind this is just him listening to way too much stuff. For what is good from being a nerd, he has all the bad qualities of it as well. He clearly knows a lot of music, but he doesn't understand it all the time.
Fantano can't be trusted with Tame Impala reviews: -He called InnerSpeaker "generic" and gave it a 6 (it was the most original rock record that came out that year) -He called Lonerism "underdeveloped" and gave it an 8 (It's the best Tame Impala album imo) -He called Currents "flawed" and gave it a 7 (it's the most influential pop record of the 2010s) -He called TSR "lacking of emotion" and gave it a 6 (Its his most emotional project yet) although it is less groundbreaking.
Honestly, AM is just mid. I can't find much enjoyment from any song and I completely agree with fantano that it just seems calculated and lacking humanity. I'm not a fantano glazer by the way, I agree with your other takes
Ngl i used to love AM but i rarely go back to it when i go back to the older AM records regularly. Everything is mid tempo and kinda samey sounding. Old AM used to be really exciting
@ ive always found it funny people get so offended by fantano’s takes as if he obviously doesnt have a biased taste, maybe he should get a co-star similar to Siskel and Ebert
Happy New Year's.

he does make talking about music entertaining to listen to. but you just have to take everything he says with a grain of salt

I agree with that. I get why he wouldn't like it as much
There’s no such thing as an “objective standpoint” when it comes to music and other kinds of art
I think the reason Currents got an 7 is he gave Lonerism a 8
yea, I think their both 9's

that's a good way to think about it. a casual music listeners don't care as much about technical things

its good you have your own opinion about it, I didn't use to like it much either, but it grew on me
i checked out the neighbourhood album. it was a banger, a 4 is crazy to give. id say like a low 7/ high 6
hell yea. it is the kind of album where some of the songs have to grow on you
Ngl i used to love AM but i rarely go back to it when i go back to the older AM records regularly. Everything is mid tempo and kinda samey sounding. Old AM used to be really exciting
