*biggest OUT the city AFTER Kenny, that's a fact now I don't think he sees himself on Kendrick's level...yet. Though, I do think he's trying to fight for it in this song.
5:28 imo, Tyler kinda actually *IS* 'that dude' right now. Not the "hottest rapper on the globe the leader of the top 3" type dude, but the "absolutely coming into his own, and everyone's finally recognizing his glow-up" dude. He has an energy about him right now that literally no one else in the rap game has (Dot and Doechii are amazing too but with different vibes). He's like a self-fulfilling prophecy: Tyler is absolutely believing he's "that guy" at this point in his life, and that belief is giving him the swagger that makes it true. 🤯
@@Aubreysangel666 I be seeing you in the comments saying this, bro, just say it once if you really have to. No one cares if Tyler is straight or not since like 2016
Maybe its just the beat, but i felt like the rapstyle is just an homage to kendrick. It sounds to me like the more high pitched silly flow that kendrick uses every now and then.
That same challenge that Kenny posed back in 2013 on the Control verse. I agree, ckronenwetter, who will step up to the plate this time? Joey Bada$$ already struck out, IMHO, and Daylyt just chastised him
I feel like this is a challenge in the way that the Control verse was a challenge. It wasn't mean or angry. In the Control verse, Kendrick said, "I am here. Get better or I am going to pass you." Tyler rapping over the number one rapper in the game's verse, saying "I'm that guy," while at the same time being friends with Kendrick? Iron sharpens iron. We might get a Kenny album drop before the super bowl off this song.
Yeah I wasn't getting challenge vibes at all. I think people read into this stuff way too often, think Tyler just loves the beat and wanted to do something fun with it, whilst at the same time acknowledging how big a fan of Kendrick and the beat he is. Seems weird to try challenge someone on a record they've already released - what's Kendrick gonna do, re-record a new verse for it to address the 'challenge'? Doesn't really work.
@@edwardscholes2403 and especially how he was reposting Kendrick's stuff on ig after the album dropped. He's clearly a fan. If I recall correctly he even posted an old video of himself dancing to "hey now" within days of GNX being released
It’s SO incredibly refreshing to see both Tyler and Dot paying homage to not only LA and the West in general - but specifically the Bay Area (primarily Oakland). Dot has repeatedly placed references in his prior albums of his love for E-40 in money trees, the hyphy movement in Squabble Up (as well as a Mac Dre nod with him using that funny voice like Mac does in Thizzle Dance). Tyler bringing back jerkin in this video and just the vibe in general is Bay Area. Rappers from Oakland rarely get the recognition they deserve for making music, slang, and dance moves that are innovative, funny, inclusive, wildly energetic and perfectly mixed for everyone to dance and go dumb to. Dot and Tyler are introducing a new generation to that hyphy energy, which is sorely needed in this era. Rap and hip hop can be insane, silly, and chaotic and still make sense 😊 great reaction!! yeee!!
thank you for getting it!! dunno why fantano used blueface and midwest rappers as the reference point when it's all pretty obviously leading back to the hyphy movement, esp obvious with tyler and taco jerking. even back then those odd future guys were pretty open about their love for stuff like the pack / lil b especially
I'm interpreting this as tyler taking a big 3 spot. After drake getting dethroned and that fighting irish freestyle on top of j coles "i woulda won" narrative. Those 2 and 3 spots are looking like they're castles built on sand.
@@LateNights242 I also think Jcole is second cause i'm more than willing to eject drake since his entire legacy isn't based on cultural impact. It's based on numbers and imo if your argument for why a rapper is the best is to try and sell him to me like im a UMG shareholder than he shouldnt even qualify.
@@thechatter7102 it feels like that when I listen to it alone, but there are a bunch of mash ups where people have combined both songs into videos, and his portion fits perfectly with Dot.
