Not that I think it will amount to anything, but Tim did like several tweets asking for it to be released, so he is aware of the demand for it and shares that view with fans. I think what's likely going on here is Tim stumbled upon it during some sort of cleaning, wanted to see if it still worked and wanted to share his excitement over it's functionality with Twitter. When he said he had more than twelve tales, I imagine he's maybe talking about other stuff he found, other builds of games in his collection and ones he may show off just like this one.
Microsoft should allow it as digital download!
Could Tim release it if say he remained anonymous and leaked it through hidden palace with some leaker taking all the attention away and obviously being the one to release it on said Rom Website instead of Tim Himself.

You never know. He doesn't work for Rare anymore. Betas get dumped online all the time. Matter of fact, just today we got that Woody Woodpecker kart racer for Dreamcast.

This is a big deal for me since I have talked about Twelve Tales for decades, and I am a big Conker fan. I think Tim Stamper is retiring soon and before he goes out, this might be his swan song. He is currently 61 years old, he wants to go out with a bang, will he dump it? Probably, but only time will tell.
I really hope Tim Stamper shows us some content for Killer Instinct 2 SNES. Even just a screenshot would be insane to see!

12:10 Rodea the Sky Soldier on Wii U did pretty much what you mention here. That geme was originally developed and finished as a Wii game, however it was held back because the Publisher decided that they want to release a console and a 3DS Version of it at the same time. That 3DS Version however took so long to finish that the Wii U was already on the market for a good while.
They now had the dilemma of either releasing the Wii version anyway, scrapping the console version and make it 3DS exclusive or make a Wii U version. They opted for the last one and ported the 3DS version to the Wii U. For the first print run (wich ended up being the only print run) they decided to add the already made Wii Discs and Manuals as a Bonus to the Wii U game, and at least the EU release also went so far to make the cover reversible with the Wii U art being the default, but you can flip it to the original Wii art.
Many people consider the Wii version to be the better one because of better gameplay and art style.
At least that game wouldn’t have been so hard to get dumped because it was released for those that missed out on first print runs

Tim did this same thing some years back before Rare Replay when he showed off owning a Dream cartridge for the SNES. I assume that maybe the lead up to that was the footage we got of the game in Rare Replay, but at the time I really was hoping for an actual game release. With Conker, I honestly think he's just showing stuff off since Rare Replay already happened now.
I sure would like it if Rare broke the mold in terms of game companies sharing their history. Imagine if they did a ~2hr doc covering their unreleased games and their development that also has digital releases of the unreleased games that compliment the doc. This would be an amazing way of telling history that no company has done before and certainly would set a nice precedent. Preservation is entering the public conscious more and more these days, so I really would like to see somewhere take a step forward towards commercializing it like that, if profits are that much of a concern. It would also give reason for releasing unfinished things so they don't have to hide behind the "well it's not a finished product, why would we ask for cash for a janky thing?" excuse.
This has to be up with the legendary Earthbound 64.
I think Twelve Tales of Conker could be released at some point, we did get Diddy Kong Pilot the early pre Banjo version leaked previously and as Tony said in that Atari collection that included some unreleased games and such included for public use and Conker 64 has multiple builds of it's pre Mature rating days out in the wild, largely owned by former Rare Staff with some builds being in Rare itself stored and preserved, so the odds of Twelve Tales Conker getting either leaked or to some extent released in some official capacity thanks to Microsoft as Rare Replay content of sorts and/or released on Xbox Live for a few dollars due to it's unfinished nature is extremely likely, if MS did officially release the lost version of Conker they could easily state what Twelve Tales Conker is as a description for the game store page to some promos where they make it absolutely clear what Conker 64 is and they should be fine, either way seeing an actual playable cartridge of the Conker game we could've gotten does give me and others hope it will show up for the public to enjoy at some point, just gotta be patient and I guess making the right contacts could help too.
Lovely to see you guys talking about this, thank you! Tim Stamper is such a tease! For me personally, I'd love to see a playthrough video of Twelve Tales, don't necessarily need the ROM. Regarding high-profile industry members leaking stuff: It does happen, they do want their unreleased games to be seen by the world, I was actually lucky enough to play a very small part in such a leak over 20 years ago. They just don't tend to do it in public.
Honestly, given the time window, part of me wouldn't be surprised if this all amounted to an April Fools prank.

Rareware made the best N64 games and I hope this gets dumped soon so we can finally try it out and play it.

I wonder if Rare would officially release the most complete protos of 12 Tales via an update to Rare Replay, or via Nintendo Online if the demand became high enough.
The best thing from this post is simply the fact that we now know the game is out there. Previously all that was known is a cart that used to have a build of Conker 64 on it by the label. Now we know the game is out there we can put those minds at rest and just enjoy the fact that someone somewhere has it preserved. There is literally 0% chance of a release in an official capacity, the best we can hope is for an auction or some other light to get this released on the web. Regardless, very cool.

I was under the impression that the N64 dev carts would wipe themselves after powering down
A few corrections here, unrelated to Conker:
Blade Runner was released in 1982, and although the first “Director’s Cut” that included the unicorn vision wasn’t released until 1992, all of the footage from that version had been shot during the 1981-82 principal photography, and there is archival evidence showing the unicorn footage was shot in January ’82.
Legend came out in 1985, three years after Blade Runner, and one year before The Legend of Zelda. So the unicorn footage was not from that movie, and if one of those IPs inspired the other, it would be the other way around: the movie Legend inspired the game The Legend of Zelda.
Honestly, for stuff like this, while it "would" be nice to have a copy, I feel like it'd be more special if Tim himself would stream the game so that we can watch together; everyone gets to see the things how it could've been, something different for a change, a little bit like friends on the couch playing games-kind of thing.
Hopefully they didn't make a rule for something like this that they're actually not allowed to share ANYTHING gameplay-related like this, if that's the case then Tim really was teasing us... xD

I don't think Tim will release it but on the other hand he doesn't have any affiliation with Rare or Microsoft anymore so he may not see it as risky, but even if he doesn't I think it's only a matter of time before someone leaks a ROM, Dinosaur Planet got leaked and that seemed less likely than Conker 64
Dinosaur Planet was different situation since it had be coded to be playable. This has already been coded and platformed so the chances are 50/50

I’m so glad it got changed into Bad Fur Day but I hope this version gets released.
I think it has a possibility of being released since MS allowed 343 to release a loooot of halo 1 and 2 pre alpha and beta stuff, which is a bigger franchise by far. Though I think people would just forget about it a week after if it got released cause the final game doesn't get mentioned alot let alone a more generic early version of it
When you guys talked about movies having an alternate cut and releasing in a different manner than the theatrical version, it instantly brought to mind the Snyder Cut of Justice League. This may be Tim's way of trending a #releasethetwelvetales hashtag to show that there is demand and maybe even releasing the game someday. It did work for Justice League so here's hoping.

I feel like if this were to have a commercial release, it would need to be part of a package that puts M-rated Conket first. A "History of Conker" type of game that'll include everything released on the Rare collection, but could also include playable bits of Conker 64, and maybe even some of that one Conker game that was made for Project Spark. A presentation similar to Atari 50 where it explains the history and context of all games and the evolution of the main character.

Commercial release would be sub-optimal for me. Because you know they've almost certainly had to add/tweak things to make it 100% complete enough to sell as a product. I highly doubt anything less than complete would be released as-is with a *may crash/lock up/go to dev screen.
I was fortunate enough to have played this game at E3 1998, and playing it again is a bucket list level ROM for me. I've always wanted to see what was in the game to be seen. The music in the training area was so happy and cheerful - hearing it over the noise of the convention made it feel like being in a themed area of Disney World or something like that, and that just made it special for me.
A month ago Phil Spencer did an interview for Xbox On. She asked him about the June showcase and he mentioned “a goldeneye type announcement” at first. I wonder what he meant by that. I’m sure Tim here was probably looking for something in his closet and found this by accident and wanted to show off on Twitter but wouldn’t it be amazing to get an unreleased Nintendo 64 game?
When I saw the video I thought that we would get to play it, unfortunately it isn't the case.
So sad that these builds all exist but probably we might never have access to them. If there was a Rare leak just like Nintendo's... I would love to play them even if they were incomplete, buggy etc.

What if Tim bought back the rights to Conker because it is an outlier IP. I can imagine a new remaster being in the works. For it to be commercially released it must be finished and bug-proofed.

If Microsoft truly cared for these Rare IPs they would take the last build of Twelve Tales and finish it to make an official release, think of Star Fox 2 (although that game was already finished).

12:00 this should be a thing. if a director's cut is a thing that is relatively new (I think Ridley Scott with Blade Runner), then we can invent (and companies can profit off of) an inverse of this, like a "Special Limited Beta Edition". ANY bug can be spun to be a feature, with the right cool branding.
In a perfect world both twelve tales and bad fur day could co exist with each other
I don't think the branding situation matters considering they are currently doing nothing for Conker and the brand has zero hype at the moment.
He was a great mascot character that they could have made a new game for at the time companies were recently revisiting these concepts. We got the Ratchet and Clank film in 2016, Yooka Laylee and Crash N sane Trilogy in 2017, and Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018, Banjo in Smash Ultimate in 2019, Crash Bandicoot 4 in 2020.
The platformer mascot resurgence is pretty much dead again, so... Microsoft really missed the boat on a lot of their IPs. The entire Rare catalog is pretty much wasted.
All valid points in the video, but it is an awfully bizarre thing to post out of nowhere…the "production quality" is pretty high for a flippant nostalgic post too, like he even took the trouble to film his CRT correctly.
I loved Conker and always wanted to see the other versions, so it was fun watching this video.
But then you went and mentioned my favorite movie ever (Legend), and while it did predate Zelda (85 Europe, 86 US, LOZ was 86 in Japan and 87 US), the idea of having a Zelda film adaptation turn out at least that good made me happy!

if it was to be Released commercially it would have to be Reworked to be a Prequel to Conkers Bad Fur Day Maybe More into his Earlier Years Before shit went Bad considering they all still have the Source Code it should be easy to Modify
After Beta 64 covered the game years ago, and ended off on such a grim note. I had completely given up hope of this ever resurfacing as anything more than a sad "what if?" story. Seeing the video itself of the system powering up and turning on completely floored me. I screamed in a way I hadn't for YEARS- not since DP's beta rom got leaked. Twelve Tales is real, and it *could* be released.
although it would be funny like Twelve Tales as it were Conker before the drinking spree and the hangover in which Bad Fur Day ends🤣

12:01 Only that StarFox 2 and EarthBound Beginnings were the rare exception of games that were finished (miraculously for StarFox 2, for some reason Nintendo let the developers finish making the game, dating the final build 1996, even though the game was canceled in the middle of 1995). Now I'll think a little different if Nintendo lets us play that more finished build of Sound Fantasy that was shown at a Gunpei Yokoi tribute event (a build more finished than the one that was leaked on the Internet).
I'm remember now another game that would be a surprise to see is the 1992 version of Special Tee Shot (which I've heard is a pretty different game than the retail release it ended up as in 1995, Kirby Bowl/Kirby's Dream Course. And even the 1996 Satellaview version of Special Tee Shot.)

I thought that cartridge was impossible to get playing cause of the security lock they put on it that deleated the files if you tried too.
I think that's what the RARE security thing on the bottom is for. It makes it so it works for authorized personnel only

they should release the builds , lets gonna be honest since microsoft bought rare , new banjo and conkers games havent gained new games since the nuts and bolts and remake of conker bad fur day , they should do more stuff with banjo and conker and perfect dark and other rare stuff , and seeing how this game would be before changing so much is practically another game , they should atleast put it on rare replay
Who knows, who knows if the SNES build of KI2 that he’s teased or remaining builds of Project Dream would ever be released. Maybe some time in the future, maybe for Rare’s 50th, it’s anyone’s guess.
Stranger things have happened. I was amazed when we actually got to see the Nintendo Play Station (aka Super CD) prototype(s?) out there.
next year is his 25th anniversary, when you consider the game boy game as his first game. so, maybe it has some relation.
