    Hi.
    Huge fan of this game right from the start, and playing a lot of hours both on the steam version and in real llife. It's actually a very cool little filler game for a 4 player party. A few comments and "house" rule suggestions though.
    Aron comments that everyones not getting the same amount of turns can be a problem. We solve this by including the 2' cards in the pile instead of in the discard pile. The very first player will have no one to "sword" from from, no gain of treasure map , no gain from key chest combination etc..That mostly take away the advantage of being the starting player.When player number 4 is up on his first turn, HE will have cards among the other players to aim for with his card abilitys, or maybe there is cards in the discard pile for him. Should make it up for the missing turn later on.
    When the discard pile slowly starts to build up, the cards in it will be of greater value other than just the two's, therefore with better reward you are willing to risk more.
    We also use the rule from the the PC version of the game, where the mermaid lets you replay a card from the playarea... very fun, and makes for a LOT more "combos" , which means more strategy and less luck.
    Ie. You draw a canon,( shoots a card), then you draw a Sword, steals a mermaid, and now you have a choice of either replaying the canon to shoot or the sword to steal once again..
    I totally agree that some of the trait are way overpowered, we oly 4-6 of them, if we use them at all.
    Finally its very important to shuffle real good between games... I prefer "stack Shuffle"

    The character powers and traits ARE in the app. They just don’t come in too much until the middle levels, then they are always there and eventually they have multiple character powers stacked with multiple traits for each side and a sort of synergy effect.

    Even the iOs game can come down to the wire. you can win or lose on the very last turn or tie. the app keeps track of everything so a game can go really fast including being able to set it to play 2x speed. they did an excellent job with the card abilities pirate theme.
    Around 40 min or so every one telling Lincoln what to do lol not cut throat for a pirate game ;

    Tom Seizmore Plays Games! I like this game but it's hard to shuffle after the game for the next when the suits are stacked. it helps if you play the computer game that helps play it for you with tips and the optional games and abilities. you do need the playmats. it makes a difference for organization and the cards slide easily but sometimes too easily. I've only played it with two. interesting to see it with 4. where do Pirates like to eat? Arrrrby's

    Fun game but I need to ask one question - is it part of the rules that the discard pile is shuffled evry time before someone picks cards from there? If there is one aspect of the game that seems clumsy its that

    • @heccubus1
      @heccubus1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dante ferno Yeah, you are to shuffle the discard before drawing cards.

    hi from germany. i love your channel! Keep up doing GameNight! or GameKnight!? :-P
    sorry for the bad english, but I hope you can understand the following ...BadEnglishText:
    I have the german version of the boardgame. and there is a variation with the mermaid cards . There are 2 extra mermaid cards : the 2 and the 3. if you play this variant, you have to remove the 8 and 9 from the game. now, when you play a mermaid card, the mermaid has an effect: the player have to choose an already played card, put it on the last position and now the effect comes a second time into force .
    :-)

    If you bust but have an anchor, are you forced to stop or was everyone just choosing to?

    • @kytsunix1654
      @kytsunix1654 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      busting forces you to stop immediately, the anchor just saves the cards that came before it in case you bust

    You can not count on how many turns a player will have. Because of pressing your luck on how many cards each player decides to draw.

    • @danteshydratshirt2360
      @danteshydratshirt2360 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Benjamin Schoolcraft of course and the game is short so I can easily imagine that people would play 1 round per player with each person starting to even it out
      good game

    • @CodexAce
      @CodexAce 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Benjamin Schoolcraft I agree. Aaron's argument is just silly. It's all in the number of cards flipped per turn. If each other player had flipped 1 more card on 1 of their turns. Dave wouldn't have gotten that "extra" turn.

    • @davidwayneflowers
      @davidwayneflowers 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +CodexAce Aaron's point is valid. Dave at worst would have the same number of turns as everyone else. At best he would have one more turn than everyone else. Dave had 5 turns. Everyone had 4 turns. That is a huge percentage difference. Everyone has the same odds on flipping, busting, or getting high cards on their turns so that is equally random for every player. There are very small odds of a turn making negative points (a hook then a bust or with Aaron's power a cannon then a bust). But on average a turn is positive so that extra turn is a net gain over the players that don't get that extra turn. The extra turn is completely uneven.

    • @danteshydratshirt2360
      @danteshydratshirt2360 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Flowers "On average he and Nikki would have an additional turn." but can you even prove that assumption? And even if it was possible to prove playing the game with EVERY person starting once would even that out

    • @davidwayneflowers
      @davidwayneflowers 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +dante ferno It is quite simple to show that Dave and Nikki would on average get more turns than Aaron and Lincoln. Dave has the highest odds of having an extra turn, followed by Nikki, followed by Lincoln with Aaron having a 0% chance of having an extra turn.
      What I can't prove is that the extra turn is advantageous. It is quite possible that it could balance out, but on rough estimation I find that unlikely. Most turns are positive for the player, as mentioned before. It is quite possible that the swords and cannons may balance out that extra turn. The player that goes first can't gain a card from another player on the first turn by using a sword, or inflict damage to another player using a cannon, but they are subject to both on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th players turns all with higher than average odds. So maybe that does balance out getting an extra turn. It's hard to say. But based on the average number of cards taken each round and the odds of running into any of those cards that hurt you, I don't think it does compensate. In their first game that potential counter balance was mitigated anyway by Dave's ability to only have his Kraken cards stolen.
      The assertion is also based on the assumption that Dave always starts. If you play as you have proposed where everyone starts once, then it evens out the odds and that becomes a moot point. You would probably want to play for highest total commutative points rather than most "wins" due to the high probability of a tie and since 4 games are required to balance the odds, a tie breaking match isn't feasible. But having to play 4 games to even the odds turns a 15 minute game into a 60 minute game or accepting potentially skewed odds.

    • @TorIverWilhelmsen
      @TorIverWilhelmsen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +MrTaylork1 If people are having fun it is inherently a good game. And all card games with a shuffled deck are "swingy". If you want a non-random game where people are stepping on each other's toes instead, go watch a gameplay runthrough for Food Chain Magnate or Diplomacy.

    • @bitrubbish
      @bitrubbish 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Victor Pluntky The only rules issue I saw was 15:55 where Lincoln couldn't have taken the hook due to Dave's special power (can only sword Dave's Krakens). And I'm not entirely sure about the special power Lincoln had and whether or not the card that causes the bust is kept or not.

    • @10175978
      @10175978 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +bitrubbish It seems like, when an anchor was present and a bust happened, sometimes the anchor was kept and sometimes not. I'm not sure if Lincolns power had anything to do with that either.

    • @danteshydratshirt2360
      @danteshydratshirt2360 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Channel+ I think at some point he had the power to take 2 cards after the first anchor...or something

    You guys need to start playing games that other people actually play & can follow. You should play games that are less Dungeons & Dragon like. More standard like games that are more fun & less intense & complicated
